Bill 10 cannot be taken back to Parliament, President Lungu tells Pastors in Kapiri

Share

President Edgar Lungu has urged Zambians to use next year’s elections to elect Members of Parliament that will represent their interests. The Head of state said this in response to the members of the Kapiri Mposhi Pastors Fellowship who want the government to look at possibilities of taking the Constitutional Amendment Bill number ten of 2019 to parliament.

President Lungu said the bill cannot be taken back to parliament during the life of this parliamentary session. The President advised those aggrieved to register as voters and elect people that will represent their interests.

Speaking when he addressed Pastors in Kapiri Mposhi, the President said his government wanted big constituencies to be divided into two as well as allow more women to take part in national development, but the opposition refused.

And President Lungu said Churches and pastors should benefit from the allocation of land just like other citizens and that it is sad that the clergy end up becoming destitute when they retire.

And speaking on behalf of the Pastors fellowship Reverend JAPHAT MSONI asked government to divide Kapiri Constituency into two. Reverend Msoni said government should consider taking the Bill back to parliament so that more constituencies can be created.

Meanwhile, Chief Nkole of Central Province has complained to the President that the Member of Parliament for Kapiri Constituency does not visit the people. He said in the future political parties should field candidates who will listen to people’s demands.

And in response President LUNGU said the members of Parliament for Kapiri does not belong to PF but the UPND. This was during a meeting between chiefs in Kapiri and the President.

  1. Unfortunately for Edgar, who seems to have anchored his illegal 3rd term on Bill 10, he’ll celebrate his last Xmas as President this year. Next year we’ll show him the way to Chawama where he came from

    • Bill 10 was defeated in parliament through a very democratic process. In democracy you don’t start pointing fingers after loosing because in a democracy it is the people who decide just like it was in our case. Don’t start casting aspersions on others, just reflect, either your message did not resonate with the Zambian people, either your canvassing was not sufficient, either some clauses did not go well with the Zambians. Just reflect and do better next time

  3. Is it Bill 10 or Lungu bill primary to benefit himself. Zambia has so many problems but Lungu leaves everything to focus on bill 10 and wonders why people were suspicious of it. Can you please address the current problems the country is facing especially the economy which has damaged. The office of Zambian President is for all Zambians and whoever holds it works for Zambians. In short, let the people collectly decide what is good or not. Not sure what he means “MPs that have interest of Zambians” when PF MPs support anything. If Lungu told PF MPs to vote for Zambia to renamed China province they would.

  6. Lunda gang – Chaps like Tayali and Mwanza are only there to distract you from talking about what is really happening …look closely everytime there is some corruption news they start making the usual noise and misinformation. Remember last time Bill 10 was being debated Mwanza was parading a vehicle from her sugar daddy and Tayali your friend was making the usual noise about Hakienda,

  7. Campaigns in full swing, opposition still locked out. Elections will come, Opposition helicopters will be stoned in Shiwang’andu and the electoral commission of Zambia will still say the elections were free and fair. ECZ is currently very quiet when only one party has started campaigning and the opposition are not allowed. Public media is only covering the ruling party. God help us

  11. Bill 10 does not stop the current PF Government from making more constituencies or districts or electing more women or youths to parliament. If I am not mistaken anyone 21 years old and above can be come a member of parliament. PF the powerful party can sponsor many women and youth to parliament if it wants. Bill 10 might die like Scientific Socialism Bill died.

  12. My president is right. We urge all voters to speak via ballot. It is your right to do so. It is shocking that the upnd diasporan dogs are threatened by such a comment
. Clearly to see that these perennial losers know that they stand no chance. I warmed them that their behaviour in parliament will come to bite them in backside. As we speak the predictions for next years elections show pf gaining some of the upnd strongholds. We are ending tribalism. If you are tribal then go join your fellow monkeys in diaspora and for all we care you can catch Corona and kick the bucket

  14. This guy is not going back to Chawama, he needs to go to jail. How can a country have $27B debt and only him and his family get rich? He has a lot to explain once he gets out of office. Why should we be responsible for the money his family has borrowed?

  15. It’s a shame to have such Pastors. The lack of intectualism is a shame.
Bill 10 was to the advantage of PF withdrawal a few sugar coated phrases.Gow was bill 10 going to help him?

  16. A few self appointed pastors and a hungry chief cannot be the voice of thousands of kapiri residents who voted for the current MP. He is sure to bounce back as MP next year while these same people continue begging.

  17. Even us in Eastern province we don’t want him now. Central province since he is there, you can adopt him and get him. Give him a village, kuno yayi tamukana, ndaba wakangiwa ku sebenza uyo munthu, sure kutiika munkhongole tonse sure. Yayi alute

  19. Please note that Chiefs in Zambia are not politicians to be lied to. Chiefs require all honest behaviour and not twisting of words. Per tradition, anybody who lies to a Chief commits a serious crime that in olden days it was death penalty that wound even include that persons close relatives also put on death penalty.
Our politicians must show exemplary in their behaviour more especially if they are addressing our Chiefs in Zambia. You will lose nothing by being honest and down to earth. The job of our Leaders is to cab corruption which is now smelling all around that if it continued, suffocation will be the norm.

  20. Lack of employment in the country is what is pushing people to trade on the streets, says a street vendors around Zambia and LUNGU must go with Tasila,Lusambo,Kapata,Kamyongo,Lubinda Siliti Siliya and all Criminals to prison and bring back our money….
