Simba SC of Tanzania and ex-Zambia Coach Patrick Phiri is reportedly on the verge of signing a two-year deal with ambitious Tanzanian club Azam FC.
According to the Daily News of Tanzania, Phiri’s two-year contract with Simba is set to expire on November 9 opening the way for Azam who were promoted in 2008 to target him.
The Daily News says Azam are said to be interested hiring the former Nkana coach after parting ways with their Brazilian-born coach Itamar Amorin.
Phiri last season won his second Tanzanian league title with Simba after winning his the crown in his first tenure in 2004.
Simba under Phiri last season romped to the title unbeaten in their championship winning campaign winning 20 and drawing two matches.
Azam, backed by the Azam Ice Cream Company, are the new kid on the block in the Tanzania league who are trying to challenge the Simba-Young Africans duopoly and consistently finished in the top three over the last three seasons.

Thats the worst advise you can ever give to a progressive person. Phiri has done what a good coach can do at Simba and has no more challenges at that club. He must now move on to more challenging tasks such as developing a raw upcomming team. he can only become a legend if he wins the league with different team more so if he went to win or end up in the top three with an upcomming team. he has won to cups with Simba what more will he be looking for? lets not allow our man to become complecent. Remember when u at the top of the hill the only other way is a donward one unless you jump to another one.
Wans’t Phiri fired by Simba? LT ran a report a few months ago that he delayed in going back to Simba and was replayed? Did Simba rescind their decision. Clarify please!!
# 4 (Okey ndandeko) Phiri was not fired but he almost faced some sort of disciplinary action coz of delayed reporting.Otherwise they talked the issue off & was back to normal action coz he had genuine personal issues to sort out pa Zed. He is now a big fish in Tanzania so let him move on 4 new challenges & more money in the pocket. Mind u he suffered a lot from low wages & poor conditions of service under the Kalu admin
