RB appeals for FIFA’s help

President Rupiah Banda has appealed to the World Soccer Governing Body FIFA to urgently help resolve the problems affecting the administration of football in Zambia.

The President has also called for dialogue between the leaders of the two FAZ executive commitees.

President Banda also said having two parallel FAZ executive Committees is not healthy for the development of football in Zambia.

This is according to a statement released to ZNBC Sport by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Dickson Jere.

President Banda has maintained that government will not interfere in the administration of football, but will use available conflict resolution mechanisms through FIFA to try and resolve the wrangles.

President Banda who is also the Patron of FAZ is an ardent supporter of Zambian football and has been instrumental in raising funds for the National team.

And World Soccer Governing body- FIFA- has advised the Football Association of Zambia -FAZ, -to take stern action against individuals who have brought the name of football into disrepute in the country.

FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya said the association has been guided by FIFA to punish anyone who has used the name and logo of FAZ without the approval of the FAZ council.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka Monday, Kalusha also disclosed that FAZ has signed a memorandum of understanding with MTN for the sponsorship of the premier league and national team.

Kalusha further said consultations with Barclays Bank Zambia are continuing on the date for the final between ZESCO United and ZANACO.

The final between the two teams was called off after some teams decided to boycott FAZ premier league games.

In a related matter Police have continued to man Football house, the premises of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).

ZNBC Sports found a heavy presence of police officers at the football house Monday.

And Lusaka Police Division Commanding Officer Greenwell Nguni said the presence of Police at Football House should not surprise people.

Nguni said the presence of police officers has been necessitated by the formation of two FAZ executive committees.

Nguni pledged that the Police will work to ensure that the two factions are kept apart and that peace prevails.

  1. Which FAZ executive are they going to allow in the FAZ house, Kalusha led or the Kamanga one? Lets wait and see as drama unfolds.

  2. If Kalusha is not serious, he shall be arrested for laundering (selling Football rights without accounting for income) and I will be the first one to report him to DEC (as as they will investigate any allegation). If they don’t prosecute, I will engage Mohan to spill the beans or even ask Kapoka to steal the records at FAZ House (whilst the paramilitary are guarding the premises).
The whole purpose will be to reinstall RB as FAZ President, the Cobra as Secretary General and HH (The money man) as Treasurer General! Welcome to Zambia- it can be a circus!

  3. The people have spoken and their choice of the interim committee needs to be respected. FIFA is setting a very dangerous precedence by siding with a dysfunctional faction led by kalusha.
Bwezani govt is so inept. Why are they appealing to FIFA to help when FIFA has made its position known

What kind of rubbish is this from govt?

  4. #4, I don’t remember the last time I read that kind of humour! I luv it man/woman!!!! Ati the whole purpose is to reinstall RB as faz president?????????!!!!!!!!! I never looked at this saga from that angle!Awe mune uli mulwele kwena but now I understand why RB has been keen on finding sponsors for our national, kanshi ni campaign? Awe eko twafilubila!\:d/

  5. Back to COLONIALISM ! Why should we always want outside to solve simple problems for us ? Government will not interfere in the FAZ issues, why deploy policemen at FAZ house ? The police are part of government and they have already interfered ! Bring the two bodies together and find out the root cause for the problem. We can handle this mis-understanding without involving outsiders, P-I-L-I-Z imwe !

  6. Pa Zed…ni military life chabe…police guarding Bola House…Kalu cant see reason…why are all negative issues prone to ZED????????

  7. I can’t understand why certain people aren’t capable of reasoning and doing the right thing. Four individuals quit their positions who aren’t happy with their president.. they mobilise some council members to form a parallel executive whilst there is an incumbent one that was duly elected.
Accusations of Kalusha are very vague. If he has missappropriated funds, organisations are there to bring him to book. If his way of running football isn’t appropriate, FAZ should be asking themselves, what is it that makes him do so?. are there no guidelines? if so, removing Kalusha isn’t resolving the problem. The FAZ Council needs to set a code of conduct so that positions aren’t abused to amass personal wealth.

  8. Unless the Interim Executive are so impotent & don’t understand their role & purpose – they should have already moved with the constitution & evidence of registerd affiliates who moved to effect dissolution of an executive that dissolved itself a long while ago. I hope their silence is indicative of their effecting of the above actions, rather than just yapping in the press!!!

  9. nothing is straight forward in zed, i’m sure both sides are waiting for THE STORM to finish on tv2 before they do anything

  10. By James Murray

If the pursuit of truth was a football match in the 80s the British sports establishment would be tooling up right now ready to beat the crap out of those poncy media boys who play at the ground down the road.

The Sunday Times investigation and following documentary by the BBC’s Panorama, which has exposed a number of FIFA officials as being more than a little susceptible to bribery, has really got them narked.

The allegation that has got them howling from their armchairs is Panorama’s claim that CONCACAF executive Jack Warner ordered tickets worth $84,240 (£54,000) on behalf of touts for the 2010 World Cup, a deal which is supposed to have fallen through.

Cameron has subbed himself on and is off to speak with Warner one-on-one, presumably to apologise for his…

  11. upstart free press and their nasty habit of exposing corruption.

England desperately needs the three votes Warner controls if they are to stand a chance of hosting the cup.

The BBC programme has been described as an “embarrassment to the BBC” by the team responsible for the English bid. The fact that the BBC was reiterating information published by the Norwegian press some time earlier has led to suggestions they are chasing ratings by running the documentary three days before the bid.

But isn’t this the basic principle behind public interest. Publish the news that is most important to people at the time when it matters most.

The assumption from the English bid team is that the UK media has done the country a big disservice in jeopardising their efforts.

  12. From a business point of view this is probably true. Considering the massive football infrastructure that already exists in the UK, the World Cup would be a massive money-spinner.

Money isn’t everything though, and if this came down to a penalty shoot-out I think the majority of the English fan base would be cheering for the whistle-blowers.

Not because they are all saints of course, but because football is the UK’s number one conversation topic.

Football is a big business and the world’s most popular grass roots game rolled into one. Nowhere is this more contrasted than in the UK and it causes a hell of a lot of arguments.

The Premiership shakes its money-maker all weekend and big clubs spend more time on billionaire’s yachts than the world’s most expensive hookers.

  13. On the flip side, every weekend millions of Brits go to their local park to play the beautiful game. It looks more like a dodgy facelift and a pair of fake tits than genuine beauty on the whole, but the people on the pitch aren’t living out a fantasy of appearing in an underwear advert with a sock stuffed down their boxer shorts.

Amateur football is all about being in a team and being in a good team involves a huge amount of honesty and open communication. Teams with things to hide from each other break down when they are losing and start to argue – I’ve seen it myself in my own illustrious 7-a-side career. The moment a team starts to argue with itself is the moment the team throws the game away.

And with grass roots fans of football, this concept of fair play and honesty is…

  14. Wow this thing is getting interesting….it is another comedy of errors.First let me cook some vimbombo and beans to entertain me while i watch this drama unfold.Nizee…

  15. And with grass roots fans of football, this concept of fair play and honesty is extremely strong. A quick trawl through any football chat board will produce reams of people up in arms about diving, dodgy money deals and clubs selling their fans short.

Then there are the pragmatists, those fans who have a deep analytical understanding of the game, including its financial side. They love the bigger picture, the machinations of a game that has become not just a game but a business, a political body and for some a religion

I have to confess to a fondness for those pragmatists. They are surely all cab drivers with degrees in economics and commerce. I like the glee they take in putting down an emotive post with some nice cooling logic.

I think the cleverest of these guys will be on the…

  16. I think the cleverest of these guys will be on the Beeb’s side too. If you believe football is great because it is part of a vastly entertaining and complex oligarchy, second in amusement value only to the Royal family, then all this corruption stuff is manna from heaven. If football fans are Israelites – I am not sure they want to get to the promised land.

And who is doing more right now to keep that eternal argument flowing; the BBC and the Sunday Times or a sports establishment who are flapping round like they’ve just made a chip pan fire much worse?

Plus – all these accusations could end up working in England’s favour. How many FIFA execs will want to add fuel to the fire by voting against England’s bid now? The canny ones will surely bid for the Brits and deflate the…

  17. This is what personal hate can do, Kalu’s enermies skimming to cause a constitutional crisis so that they embark on a white colar coup. If indeed there was corruption in Kalu’s dealings why not report to DEC and ACC. a dirt mind will always suspect dirty things. these rebels want to hold office coz the feel there is something cewable. give them power they will start doing the same things they suspect Kalu to be doing. There could be something wrong in kalu,s managemet style but the route they have taken to fight this is another wrong and 2 wrongs dont make right. Wait 4 his term to end then vote him out why the hurry.

  18. Every FA in the world has its own rules which FIFA respects, how come FIFA is being given the judge status on an issue that is purely local and is just familiarising itself to

  19. I love procedure and following rule and Iam very delighted with the directive from FIFA and I quote:”And World Soccer Governing body- FIFA- has advised the Football Association of Zambia -FAZ, -to take stern action against individuals who have brought the name of football into disrepute in the country.”

Hehehehe, this is authority Simataa Simataa. You dont use backdoor methods to enter office and be reminded that this could be a boomerang and set a very bad precedent to future FAZ presidents.I can imagine how that rude boy Augustine Mukoko of the Post is feeling with his hatred and his articles full of hate!!! Viva Great Kalu!! Crap the whip whenever possible to instill discipline.MTN has even signed a sponsorship deal!! Is this not Great kalu success?

  20. On this one Iam with RB. FIFA as a corrupt entity have put clauses that protect corrupt National FAs because they are the ones that vote for people like Blatter. Right now some European FIFA officials have indicated that they will step down due the mishandling of issues by Blatter and his cronies. This man is full of patronizing. An example is that of Abed Ayew “Pele” of Ghana. The FA in Ghana have rejected Ayew but Blatter has been trying to impose Ayew on them just because of the friendship between these two- Blatter and Ayew. Yes RB also remind FIFA that Football here is funded by over taxed citizens who in turn would like to watch decent soccer. OTHER WISE LETS CONFEDERATION OF WORLD SOCCER-BREAK AWAY FROM FIFA

  21. Galu must go period!!!!

RB is moving on thin ice on this one. He knows Kalu was too close to him But the Zambians have said to hell with him. So he has allowed Kalu to be roasted whilst he watches. RB knows he offended a lot of people on the Chiluba aquittal now to meddle in Football to support Kalu will spark a riot.

  22. # 30 know that you are not the only tax payer. Iam also. Speak for yourself. Because there are so many pipo out there who support Kalu. If all citizens took part in this, you will be shocked that you will find few pipo know your Simataa or whoever it is,. In Kazungula, Sinazongwe, Chama, Mwense, Chadiza, you will be shocked pipo still dont have the hatred the way you have.

  23. #33 tax payer- Read my article in full. Did I ever mention Kalu in it? If you must know, I have adminstered soccer at the highest level and even served at FAZ (Sub Committee) and was part to the current constitution. So just know that Iam talking about things I know.Supporting some one is a personal choice, it has nothing to do with actual performance. No wonder we are in this crisis because of emotional people like you.I supported RB on his call to FIFA to help sort out the mess. Yes unless you dont read, FIFA is riddled with corruption. Even yesterday more corruption was revealed in connection with the impending awarding of 2018 world cup hosting.I have not opposed or insulted Kalu, because I want this issue to reach an amicable solution.

  24. #27
Villager- FIFA statutes do not allow goverments to meddle in FAs affairs- which is ok. But the problem is that most FA’s have taken advantage of this clause by abusing power since FIFA will protect them. Just recently France and Nigeria were threatened with a ban after banning their teams for poor performance at 2010 World Cup.This why Iam calling on progressive nations to take a strong stand against FIFa even if it means banning them.

  25. @37. You are so right. This FIFA has gone too far behaving like a colonial imperialist bullying sovereign countries from taking action against inept and thieving FAs around the world. Countries are spending huge sum of tax payers cash and it must just be abused like that becuase FIFA will ban us once we complain that money is not being spent properly. Just look at the London fiasco, the Yemen and Chile scandals. I really think its time right thinkin coutries either tamed FIFA or formed another organisation to run FOOTBALL. FIFA is too corrupt to deal with such matters at FAZ or even at its doorstep in Zurich

  26. #39&37 FIFA is the soccer supreme body, they have valid reasons why they do not allow govts to meddle especially unstable ones-soccers suffers. That is the point the ‘coup plotters’ missed – once FIFA talks it is final. FOOLS TRY- WISEMEN FAIL. It is curtains for the KAMANGA BOYS especially after they abstained the FIFA sanctioned ECM .THEY VINDICATED KALU BY ABSTAINING THE ECM THEY HAVE BEEN CALLING FOR- PERIOD. They will never be taken seriuosly by any rational thinking person, they should just swallow their pride and rue the missed opportunity that arose when they were blinded by rage and jealousy!!!

  27. Deja Vu
Please leave Blatter out of the Ghanaian mess.In Ghana, infact its the sports minister who imposed the candidacy of Abedi against the Ghana FA chose its president Kwesi Nyantakyi three months ago to contest next year’s elections(vie for a vacant Caf post) .Sanity has now been restored after the government backed down on its request.
Where does Sepp comes in? Procedures are paramount.

  28. **==
Leave Kalu alone! He has proved he has the passion for our great sport. Some people may not have this. As unfortunate as may be the general case in our leadership, all they want is personal gains and cheap politiking! Simaata had his time to steer FAZ. What did he do when things went parallel? Like a small boy he chose to resign. And what else does he want to offer now? Please stop these cheap politics and let the ones mandated at this moment make an effort to drive the game forward. Or atleast wait for 2012. Words and personal agendas should not be tolerated. Keep on Kalu. U r the man, and show them u won’t resign like they did when they were given the mandate to run FAZ.

  29. #40 ICEBERG – I think you being emotional. If you get my point you will see that Iam not siding with either party. As it is now Soccer will suffer unless people debate with cool heads not calling others FOOLs like you are doing. I am confident because I have a lot o experience in Soccer having become a Secreatry of a FAZ Premier Club at age 21 years. I have worked with mature Chairmen/Presidents such as Mr. Mtine, Dr Sakala, Mokola, Mulonga, Mr. David Phiri and the late Mwape. Infact we lost direction when people like Simaata, Kasonka the two Chitis came on the scene. My interest is to have this problem solved. The President RB is right and Iam not his fan but having worked under him at Faz as VCman I know he is worried for soccers future in Zambia.

  30. #40, absolutely right!! People got so blinded by their jealousy that they started to break the same laws that they were protecting. Boycotting the ECM on 27th was the most stupid move these guys ever made and played right into Kalu’s hands. The second most foolish was the boycott of premier games. Its done now, its final and if FIFA does not recognise us then we will be confined to Madala’s football and “keep fit” social football on Sundays.

  31. I would like to point out that let not the Simataa scheme destroy our beloved game in Zambia. We all know that Kalu as an individual has a lot of shortcomings just as most of you criticizing him but one thing for sure is that we have got constitutional government agencies who are supposed to deal with matters of corruption and theft. Are you sure these people with such hatred for great Kalu could spare him if they had evidence of his misdeeds? They don’t hence their resort to use a short cut to get to power in FAZ. Every person is innocent until proved otherwise before the courts of law. As for now Mr. Kamanga try to be the president of box one kanele football club of Lundazi first before you finally aspire for Faz presidency in 2012. Viva Great Kalu

  32. More over FIFA has given its position which is clear and now its up to the Government, one issue though, the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) will have to do a big climb down with egg on its face and endorse the same Executive it declared to be illegal. These are problems we create for ourselves when we listen to “self-appointed fountains of wisdom” and “defenders of principles”, “experts at everything” and these are no other than the almighty “The Post”.

  33. #45
Wanisekesa ati president of box one kanele football club of Lundazi … for real, this kamanga chap has failed to admnister Kabwe Warriors but want to quick as Zambian FA president. My KW are nolonger magnificent.Thats where his energies should go and he will be appreciate. We all know Amakumbi Stars will always be in the lowest division cos the owner has no vision at all.

  34. #47
which kalusha’s team in number one or is in premier?
there are so many factors that determine being an FA president, not only having played football before!
you also need a sound education and some schooling in management, possibly at tertiary level.
believe me, we need fresh blood in football if Zambia is to perform better in Africa and world stage. depending on “ubulimi bwakale” will not bring silverware home! passion for football is not because one was footballer before, it is because he had nothing else to do and was just a gifted player. we all have a passion for football may be even more than footballers and former footballers!

  35. #43 I am truly sorry if i offended u . The ‘FOOLS TRY-WISEMEN FAIL’ saying was meant for the ‘rebels’ and it is a very common saying. Sorry once more.It simply means when FIFA recognised the Kalu team it was futile for the TAMANGA BOYS to try to challenge FIFA(FOOLS TRY) the best they could have done is attend the FIFA approved ECM and put their case forward to FIFA (if they have any)and petition FIFA at the ECM(WITH ALL FACTS TABLED) NO ALLUCINATIONS-PERIOD

  36. Can somebody please give the us the details of Kalu’s transgressions on Mboola ,NIKE,Supersport and the govt funding etc pse.Its like most of us are debating with sketchy information on this saga. The press LT,POST should avail us the details of the contracts highlighting the breaches so that we can fully understand the extent of the damage.

  37. KAMANGA HAS LONG AS HAS TWO THIRD SUPPORT YOU WE SHALL GIVE YOU THE CHANCE TO SORT OUT THIS AFTER ALL IT TAKES IS FOR THE CLUBS NOT TO FOLLOW OR ALLLOW KALU AND HIS MATES’S INSTRUCTION TO BE FOLLOWED…….IN OTHER WORDS LET THE MATCHES BE PLAYED THEN WE SHALL SEE WHO IS IN CHARGE OF FOOTBALL USING FIFA WONT WORK ….BETTER WE ARE BANNED:x

  38. #51 That is too harsh!!! Are u a football fan i wonder?!!! The TAMANGA BOYS are not recognised by FIFA and owners of the Money’s have not complained about Kalu if fact they are willing to give even more(check supersport and MTN). Go and ask Simaata how difficult it is to woo the corporate world -he has been there and he lamentably failed and resigned himself KOMBONI football. Now that he is out of employment and Kalu has done all necessary works in football sponsorship he wants to hijack his friends successes.SHAME ON HIM.

  39. #53( Iceberg)
Spot on.He failed and now wants to bask in somebody’s success. It does not work like that.Let him try his lucky in 2012.

  40. Like it or not, the constitution will prevail!!! The exhibition here on the blogs, relating to FAZ, of people happily ready to ignore a constitution which is supposed to be the sole authority of how to run the game & promote the sport – just goes to show why the country wallows in the poverty that it does. You wonder why people leave the country, incomprehensible love of mediocrity & its embracement does indeed overwhelm one when it is so ubiquitous

Fifa has warned of “adverse consequences” if a dispute within the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is not resolved.

  43. it has no make sense two have executive for FAZ, they need emergency meeting, Now that the meeting is over, they Kalusha keep stand firm and sue these men, they want to take up the leadership by force. that is impossible, i ask they government to stop kamanga and his simata simata for future this may create confusion in Country,FIFA has written to us what more do we need.
i ask the media to stop covering simata simatas group. let us create peace.
we can never be all leaders, that is impossible at same time

    rev B.m B

  44. WOOoooh chi Simataa, watobela panshi!!! Call FIFA in Zurich and identify yourself as FAZ SG and see what attention you will get!! My suggestion is similar to #59, stop covering the time wasters (of course The Post have a personal vandetta against anything to do with Kalu) and lets concentrate on Football.
