Home Affairs Minister Mkondo Lungu says government is looking into the extension of the mobile voter registration exercise to ensure that the 2.5 million target of registered voters is met by the electoral commission of Zambia ECZ.
Mr. Lungu said it would be necessary to extend the mobile voter registration exercise to accord more people register as voters.
He noted that the figures of registered voters are evidence enough that most people did not manage to register as voters.
Mr. Lungu, however, said the extension of the exercise would depend on government’s financial resources.
The mobile voter registration exercise came to an end on the 30th of November 2010 with calls from stakeholders to extend the exercise to meet the 2.5 million target set by the electoral commission of Zambia ECZ.

i tryed to get my voter card replaced on the closing day alas ,i went to chelston basic skool since had initially registered frm there,only to be told the team had moved to Kaunda Square,then i went to mutedere council offices along Khamloops road again was told the team had relocated,now WHY leave the centres i have mentioned when the exercise was being carried on in specified places…

EXTENDING voter registration is a progressive move. in future there should be a constant voter registration. it should never be closed. anyone with voting rights should at anytime of the year walk in the elec comm offices and register even if election are 5 yrs away.
Voter registration should only close three months away from pollling day. This is possible. All we need is willingness to work for mother Zambia. Why close the exercise now? We should not promote laziness that ECZ needs enough time to put in order records for this can be done within three months. Let the people register, if they do not want to, then it will show by that time that indeed there is voter registration apathy, which I believe is as a result of fake leaders this country has.
