Demands to Disclose the Medical bill of Levy immoral-Bishop Mambo

Share

Demands from some sections of society for government to make public of President Mwanawasa’s medical bills have been described as cynical and immoral.

Out-spoken clergyman Bishop John Mambo told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that such demands should be dismissed because they are lanced with malice.

Bishop Mambo, who is President and Founder of Chikondi Foundation, said the demands are unfair because Dr. Mwanawasa like any other citizen is entitled to medical treatment at tax payer’s expense within the confines of the constitutional entitlement.

He said the money being spent on the treatment of Dr. Mwanawasa should not be an issue at a time when the nation should be pre-occupied with praying for the speedy recovery of President Mwanawasa.

Bishop Mambo further said if the law will at some time stop the State from meeting the medical bills of the President, then well-meaning Zambians should consider setting up a special trust fund.

He said such a facility would allow well-wishers make donations to help meet the medical bills of Dr. Mwanawasa and the upkeep of family members at his bedside.

Some sections of society have been pressing government to disclose the medical bill of Dr. Mwanawasa who suffered a stroke at the African Union summit in Egypt and was later evacuated to Paris, France where he is currently hospitalized at Percy Military Hospital.

Chief Government spokesperson Mike Mulongoti has since described such demands as uncalled and inhumane.

  1. The running stomach is getting serious. There knees are having fellowship becoz they are about to loose there jobs.

  2. Come on! Get serious!! Are you telling me that the prez and government ministers do not have medical insurance?? Scandalous!!

  3. zambians have a right to know how much it is costing them to have their president in France .can some one remind bishop mambo that the money for keeping LPM is not coming from Mwanawsa and company but from the poor zambians who have even lost their beloved ones because they could not raise money for medical bills amount ing to may be just one million Kwacha!!! the president is our property and we neeed to know the cost of mantaince.

  4. #3, that is right. we need to be given better updates on LPM health. We can do a cost benefit analysis (CBA) of either bringing LPM to RSA, UTH or Kitwe Central. Whats the cost, his condition and the like!!!!

  5. come on guys, i also believe that every Zambian has the right to know how the money is spent(though you will factually do nothing after knowing) but i think it is just a bad gesture to do so.

  6. What is the total number of people in France? Only those contributing to his healing should stay – the rest must come back because they are not adding any value to the condition.

They are not even giving us updates.

  7. We the people paying through tax need to know. This is not saying if it’s too highthen we ll ask LPM to be brought back,No.but this will help us to plan and also see the importance of these people having medical test before they get such Jobs.Accountability & Transparency is import in every democratic institutions and you can only be accountable if and wen you report relevant info. And we all know historic cost are mostly irrelevant. We don’t want to Now and not in 2011.Someone somewhere somehow could be taking advantage. Also we can reduce this cost if we looked @ how many people are on his bedside and which ones are relevant to keep in France(relatives & childrenshould come back)

  8. the bible says do unto others as you would love them do unto you.
those of us demanding for the medical bill put yourselves in LPM’s shoes, how would you take it. zambians let us learn to empathise with others.

  9. # 6 agree or since LPM seems to be comfortable in when around soldiers may be we can take him to Maina Soko or the new thing Mateyo has opened in Sikanze camp!!

  10. I think knowing the cost is something we should not dwell at the moment but think of rehabilitating our very hospitals like
UTH the KITWE, NDOLA and other hospitals. Surely these guys spend a lot millions of kwachas and the end of the day die in those foreign hospital and become another cost in bring their bodies back in the country.
Gentle men let this govt be told the truth.

  11. There are millions of Zambians that have died, are dying and will surely die because of lack of better medical facilities in our country. We must strive as a nation to put up better facilities and reward our Doctors well so that we do not loose them to nations that pay them handsomely.
It is shameful for a Zambian Minister to be flown to South Africa for treatment and he is being attended to by a Zambian Doctor or Consultant!!!
We are paying so much for a selected few while the rest of the poor Zambian have to wait to face the inevitable,Death!

  12. # 10 thats so unlike adolf.Any we sympathise and we are praying for LPM, but all we are saying for example how many pipo are on his beddside & is it necessary. Then had it been some event of a national budget item then allocation of funds would have been set,but this was more of an accident and the money spend will most likely be diverted from elsewhere and this is where we are say lets be accountable now.Look the plunders money has not been reclaimed upto 6 yrs now from the time the cases where started.

  13. There are certain things who dont have to question. Even if you do, you wont find an answer. Mwanawasa deserves full and excellent medication whatever the bill. He fell sick whilst on duty. Its something Zambians will have to learn to live with.

  14. There are certain things you dont have to question. Even if you do, you wont find an answer. Mwanawasa deserves full and excellent medication whatever the bill. He fell sick whilst on duty. Its something Zambians will have to learn to live with.

  15. Levy`s bills-we need to know.

When a number of zambians fell sick, we were told the medical bills

Mama Betty Kaunda, Sata, Chiluba-we have been told theier medical bills even before they are discharged-what makes it immoroal now that we are asking about levy`s medical bills

Cost benefit analysis- i equally recommend it.

I also suggest a “feasibilty study” is it feasible to keep levy in france? Technically, Econonically & Socially

Accountants talk about about “Going concern concept of a business” I equally recommend it

  16. Bishop mambo needs to be reminded that according to what we are seeing here LPM is getting better he is even writing speeches for the VP to read so what is he still doing in France? A cost analysis is essential. If LPM wants to be treated like a private citizen he must resign. For now we need to know how much it is costing us. It does not mean that we want that money back but we are simply entitiled to know.

  17. Just as we appreciate the that the prezdt is receiving the right quality there in france, its necessary that even when such a thing is done at the expence of a poor man there in my village,i believe that the same grandma of mine supposed to be genuinely informed on the progress the very person being sponsored in french military hospital is making.we do that by simply revealing the true medical grid as at now.why hiding it?ask Aerial Sharon in israel because thats the best reference so far if stroke is something to question.mambo get serious!come on because the sooner the better.

  18. This is really serious. Accountability is different from fault finding. All we want to do is to cut on costs. The family is in Paris doing what? Let them come back leave the wife only because the money we are payong for their up keep can be used to develop some hospitals here in Zambia.

  19. Those of you who are having a field day with cheap accademic formulae regarding Levy’s medical bills I wish you the following:-
    May your parents suffer strokes
    May your pregnant wives miscarry
May you and your wive develope prostate and cervical cancer
    May you suffer from diabete
May you develope permanent high blood pressure
    May you suffer from impotence.

And while you are at it may you learn how to sympathise with the sick.

  20. Anonymous (Ba ROBBY)- Stop misleading the masses. LPM is the republican president whose entitlements and conditions of service differ from ordinary citizens like you. LPMs bill should not be an issue. The government recently built a house for your relative Dr Kaunda, why didnt you protest so that those resources could have been channeled to UTH, Ndola and Kitwe hospital ?
Why are you being selective ? Remember he is the sitting president, ICHIBUMBA CHALA BWELA MWAICHE, YEMBEKEZA CHABE.

  21. Levy’s medical records should be private but not the cost of providing maintaining him there with his family and his entourage. This is public money and is not a security issue so it should be disclosed and an analysis carried out to determine if there is a better and cheaper hospital elsewhere etc… Or if he can come back and recuperate at home.

  22. In the mean time when the condition is stable and when the people of ZED gather together in such an innumerable multitude in every possible forum to be deceived on the truth regarding the state of their beloved LPM in the name of prayers and culture values. Lets us beware of the schemes of the MMD (Mngot Mpobo Deals) & their Pharisees, which a hypocrites! For there is nothing covered under sun! that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever they have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which they have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. Its only a matter of time,,, Europe is governed by the fre

  23. mike mulongoti is not so trust worth in the manner he handle the information. should I say that he is having intentions of becoming th president some day after mwanawasa resings or dies.

all thses chaps are just job keepers. therefore they not in the class of leaders that can be trusted with lives of the zambians.
listening from an interview on movi TV all he spoke were just senseless issues that would not even bring development.

  24. LPM is entitled to full compensation as he was on national duty when the events happened. He is entitled medical treatment first of all as President of the Republic of Zambia and then as a citizen no matter the cost. After that he has to be compensated according to his grade as this happened in the line of national duty

  25. We have gone for almost a month without a presdo, can we cover the same period without a farmer? lets sort out issues at Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia.

  26. Give us the bill. After all, thats my money beign spent at percy hospital. so i deserve to know both the state of the patient and how much am spending. whats wrong with our leaders kanshi? what kind of brains do they have?

  27. I hear even his three uncles and an antie from the wife’s side are in France, could it be true??

  28. we need to know the money being spent by gov to keep levy and those at his bedside in paris. those who get a payslip knows how much it feels to pay tax! why should the issue be a secret.

there is nothing imoral there just transparency.

  29. To give a rough idea based on the costing structure of Sandton Clinic in Johannesburg:

    AIR AMBULANCE:
    ADMISSION COST: 1,500.00 Rands
COST OF A BED A DAY: 8,500.00 Rands
DOCTOR’S FEES PER DAY: 2,000.00 Rands
THEATER CHARGES FOR AN OPERATION: 30,000.00 Rands
COST OF OPERATION: (depends on complication)
USE OF ICU FACILITIES PER DAY: 25,000.00 Rands per day

So if LPM was at Sandton clinic he would have cost the tax payer about 1.2 million rands so far; But he is in France so we could double or triple the amount. Then we could look at it as him being charged a VIP charge.

  30. #38 if thats the case then its outrageous! Mambo keep quiet you randy Bishop, and let the zambians know what is dear to them!!!

  31. #25 from your wishes i can tell that you must be a product of a one night stand as such you dot even know your father and mother as you may have grown up in an orphanage near a mortury and a grave yard, your mother never loved you!!!!!!

  32. Bishop Mambo concetrate on recuperating considering that you are not enjoying good health yoself.
We are not being told the truth but to keep praying & that he’s improving.

  33. May your wives suffer from breast and cervical cancer.

This is for being concerned more about money than human life.
May your children have stunted growth

  34. Golyati stop being an ass, Why would you want LPM to be above your family or anyone else’s. LPM is not the first Zambian Citizen to have a stroke. Has the Govt ever paid for any stroke patient these ridiculous amounts. So why should we keep quiet just because it is Levy. We dont care how much it will cost him in France but we need to know how much it is, for costing purposes as well as for next year’s budget.

  35. Having worked at the Wellington Hospital and other such I would say that the Medical fees are about £300 000 to £500 000 per night/day.Most clients are from the middle east and top African leaders.

  36. #26: All that you have stated, we have been through, and we know that treatment for cancer, strokes, diabetes, etc can be extremely expensive. That is why we are concerned about spending about USD30,000.00 per day for LPM and his crew in Paris. What about routine visits by selected ministers. In the constitutional three (3) months, this would translate to minimum of ZMK 12 bn. Just think. I tend to support all those calling for a BCA (Benefits [first, then] Cost [later] Analysis) in order for Zambians to rationlise their decision making process.Ariel Sharon’s treatment was terminated for the same reason, in the same hospital.

  37. We Tongas don’t easily fall sick. But some of these smaller tribes in Zambia easily get sick. Why??
Therefore, vote for HH and not this sickler old Bemba chap, Sata.
We are the real owners of Zambia since we have lived here more than any other tribes i.e. Lozi, Bembas, Ngonis plus these other minute tribes.
HH is the only hope for Zambia as at now since LPM is down.

  38. anyone with info according to the constitution what the article says about the president medical bills or something, lets just not without maybe he is titled to that.

  39. Mwaice wandi Golyati #42 there is life after LPM. what good is it if we spend millions of dollars on one man who is dying anyway and leave thousands of pipo starving. You can curse all you want but the bottom line is LPM is costing us money which w dont have. We cant pretend that because it is life at stake then we should empty our coffers, what about the other millions of lives also.

  40. #Thats ridicuouls!!! That amount by 30 days its already 15,000,000 pounds on medicals only what about the upkeep of the family.

  41. You guys lets debate seriours issues dont talk too much even you if by chance you become the president you will be entailed to the same working conditions so it better you shut up.It will not solve anothing so lets table issues i know for quite sure that you pay tax and you should know.Good day guys

  42. the time bomb is about to xplode. watch this space. are the children not suppossed to be in school? they will have extra extra lessons or tution for them to catch up. anyway nkhwazi is a good school and they will catch up but. next…..constitution….next board of doctors to fly to france….next chief justice to act..next elections and finally katele kalumba is a winnnnnnnnnnnnner stupid katele yoy are innocent till found guilty.

  43. those who do not want it public knowledge are likely plunderas of public resources. they wud rather keep it under the carpet. shame

  44. # 48 What did you say again?….you must be daydreaming or having a serious nightmare. Do you notice what the subject matter is here, mwati?

  45. If the money is not directly coming from your pocket people don’t want to account for it, simply because they don’t feel the pinch. there is nothing personal about Levy’s bill or even salary. The day he swore to president he gave away his personal business to the people of Zambia.

  46. # 42 why cancer and not stroke? Is your wife suffering from cervical cancer?please lets not curse but discuss within wat we are talking about.

  47. #42 i can picture you-a very urgly lenje man whose mother was a waitelesi wearing green and pink mapulling i am sure you are witing from france twebeko efyo sokulu albukile lelo.

  48. ba mambo we need to know wat is immoral about this? we have said it that we are tired of waiting in vain? kip zzz you man of little faith.

  49. #53 That is what is killing Africa. So you think it is right? It`s rudicrous to say the least.

Ba Mambo you are spouting rubbish. What contributions are you on about? Who would contribute, me? No way.

  50. We’re not wishing LPM anything bad. What we’re requesting is more data on LPM condition. Little informmation is the same as non at all. About that guy wishing us bad, WE REFUSE ALL YOUR WISHES IN JESUS’ NAME. Remember that the JAH will curse all who curse some of us, so watch out. Just bless us Dear.

  51. 48 nzelu kuchepa iwe we are tired of throwing missles on the tribla thing the more you talk of it the more energy you drain from me. Tonga my foot kip zee like the lozis shaaaa. ndiwe suntwe maningi

  52. #10, nice one. It is always to check yourslf carefully before making any unnecessary comments.

Let the best be done for Mr President LP Mwanawasa (SC, Hon. Doctor).

May his health be restored to best. May God bless Zambia and Zimbabwe too.

  53. #10, nice one. It is always to check yourslf carefully before making any unnecessary comments.

Let the best be done for Mr President LP Mwanawasa (SC, Hon. Doctor).

May his health be restored to best. May God bless Zambia and Zimbabwe too.

  54. #64 how can we wish him bad when he is already bad? how can you curse a mad person? geee we are informationally starved about his healthy. so whatever happens let it hapen. our conclusions and opitions shud be respected if one is not able then he is unable. plan B shud start working. Have you seen that the goats will soon go astray coz of not having a shepard?

  55. “concentrate on prayers”
one month of prayers and still nothing. uhm…. maybe ernest angley can help.

  56. # 44 You ***** Kalumbi Banda may your wife suffer from Genital herpes.
Levy as President of the replic has got certain conditions of service which entitle him to specialist medical attention when he is sick. There is no where in the constitution where it says how much must be spent on medical treatment.Even for ordinary individuals there is no ceiling on how much Government can spend on them in a Government clinic. Levy is just not any ordinary patient he is the President of this country and is entitled to more Government attention and expense than any other citizen. So you ***** you must accept that in life or death there is no equality, that is why others get buried at old leopards hill.

  57. #21!Walasa, The so called “Bishop” Mambo is a hypocrite even his church followers know thats why they expelled him and he quickly rushed the the courts.Shame on him.I challenge him to stop taking Arvs.

  58. While others are buried at Chingwere or new leopards hill. Some children go to private schools while others go to Government schools. So you foolish man learn to accept things you can not change then you will be at peace *****.
Even if we were to give you the full cost of levy’s treatment so what? what will it do for your meserable life or where are you going to take us. The best you can do is aspire to be President of the country so that when you have cancer of the dick you can be hospitalised in a five star hospital with Champane to go with medication.

  59. Why people are so scared? do you realise that we had no presdo since 2006? maureen has been ruling us. and you Ba bishop when you were sick, was your relatives and church not demanding for hospt bills? inorder for them monitor and prepare for next payments. that’s all what we want to see how much we’ve spent so far.

  60. Ba Mambo balwele, Bishop please concetrate on your healthy you are sick man. No wonder you people you get stroke your healthy is not okey and you still talking.

  61. #71 Golyati ilicipuba. #44 is right. Stop calling your friend an ***** becase he is right. The ***** is you.

So his life is more important than that of your relatives in the village? What a dim wit!

  62. #71 can you imagine Gordon Brown being admitted to a posh hospital in France? You probably can not from the way you are spouting rubbish.

  63. Knowing the medical bill isn’t gonna do us any good coz they are gonna spend anyway, It is an unavoidable cost. but what we should advocate for is for most of those pipo( so called relatives) at his bedside to retain and only Maureen and maybe his children to remain with him.
May god bless u all and have mercy on those wishing others to be cursed.

  64. #76 Zimya you imbecile

Dont you know that levy’s life as President is more important than my relatives. He can make this country go to war while my relatives cant. He can reprieve someone on death raw while my relatives cant. He can save Sata’s life by sending him for treatment while my relatives including Sata’s relatives cant.
He can decide to sell me a house at 10 pin while my relatives cant. He can offere me a Job while my relatives cant. He can influence the price of food while my relatives cant.
Damn you ***** Zimya why cant you see the wisdom

  65. #48 hamabondo or whatever you name is,you should think before writing anything, you useless tonga tribalist.Dont you know you are insulting millions of zambians by saying “minute tribes”?Who told you tongas own Zed? Mazoka?.Let me advise you, if you continue like this, having a tonga presidebt in zed will remain a pipedream especially for you.As for HH,he will never be president of Zambia as he is not presidential material. He was chosen by tongas not Zambians,Sakwiba was the rightful successor.

  66. Let us leave everything in the hands of the Lord pliz. there is nothing hiden to God, all things will be revealed.

  67. Imwee antu please leave LPM alone, so what if the Gov released the cost. You guys the office of the President is an institution and all the costs will reflect in the Gov books at some time.

The guy sayin the people with HE in France should come, please contact me so that i send u to pick them,Immediately u reach u hide under the patient’s bed, come on zedian lets be serious , keep prayin for LPM recivery than petty issues.LPM has a medical insurance for your information.

Tonga forget the please forget no state house 4 u dull chaps.

  68. The total cost of all expenses at the end of it all could have bought the same machines for UTH,Kitwe centra, Ndola, L/stone and many other main hospitals in the country. Zambia we are a laughing stock out in the west. We cant compare ourselves to Israel in the case of A Sharon.
What is the entourage still doing there at the tax payers expense?let them all go back home, only the wife should remain, its not like she has to phisically lift him to need extra help from relatives, that is why they are at the best hospital, their is staff to do all that.At the end of the day, life goes on with or without Levy. We wish him a quick recovery. Yes we have the right to know the expenses.

  69. Stop discussing my brother, it is an african to talk about the dead!!!!!!!!!

too bad by brother will be suceeded by him who cant be stopped by anyone-currently he has ulupala ku mutwe, wears glasses and facing corruption charges.

  70. #79 Golyati-Okay life is life levy or your relative life is important. But 1 life and many lives which one would rather save.for the reasons your saying LPM’s life is more important(to protect usand your relative) is the same reason we are crying for these people to take up right procedures.to protect you and your realtive from economic and political instability is why LPM’s life is more important and that is why we are crying for more info b’coz LPM is not there for for now many can take Advantage of us.

  71. #84 I doubt if Levy’s Medical Insurance covers ALL the entourage there, lets cut costs that are not necessary. Yes Levy deserves the BEST care and his costs are not questionable, People just want to know and have the right to know, but the entourage has to go home.

  72. I dont see any reason why people should start insulting each other on a fora like this one.its better to exchange views in a mature manner to demonstrate how soundful your mind is especially on issues bordering economical development and social aspect of life merging.lets try at all costs to be zambians by way of respecting each other’s perception of both political and intellectual drive.i am on my knees pleading pls.

  73. How ironic, when you are given Levy’s bill then what next. People you must appreciate that Levy is no ordinary Zambian like the rest of us. We all know that it is costing a lot for the country right now but the solution is not in knowing the bill. This should just be an eye opener so that we begin demanding for better facilities even for us ordinary Zambians. The only argument that holds water is to reduce the number of people at bedside as way of cutting costs. Over Levy’s bill you can bring in any economic analysis but it wont help you he is getting what he deserves period.Don’teven waste time pointing fingers at Bishop Mambo and let alone calling him sick. There r sick pipo all over.

  74. If we had built institutional capacity for the UTH to cover the ailments that LPM has, we would have preferred that all our leders get treated at UTH. But because LPM was brainwashed into doing nothing for the UTH, we are enslaved to die without proper treatment except LPM himself. He with the MMD are a selfish bunch of slavemasters.

  75. Mimi # 92 we need to know how much it costs for budget purposes . We cant deplete our coiffers just because of one man.Would you rather spend 10million dollars on a man on a machine or spend half of that on living pipo? If we claim to be a christianity nation we need to think hard about priorities.

  76. This issue of cost will come back to haunt the Mwanawasa gov’t, let them spend as the wish but time will come when they will have to account for this abuse of authority. LPM, his family and the MMD knew that LPM was not healthy enough to be President and now that he is in a coma, his family and supporters don’t want to admit what is obvious, it is costing the country too much to keep him alive. The best that the gov’t can do is to start using his pension to pay for his medical bills and next time, we should make sure a healthy person takes over as President. I hope LPM gets well so that he can come back and retire and then he should be dragged to court just like his gov’t has been doing.

  77. #92 how do we know who is on the bedside if we don’t know the cost.It is the breakdown of such cost that will tell us that so much was spent on chippo’s travel so much on uncles’s travel.without the cost you think they can tell us the correct number of pipo on his side when they can’t tell his real condition.Even if they did, they might say these pipo are paying for themselves so that is why cost are more important.further to avoid building in later reports cost that might not be for this.remember unbudget for cost are of high risk of embezzlement b’coz no-one estamite and any report won’t have a comparison and can be wrongly taken as gospel truth.

  78. iwe cigolyati# try to put some sugar in yr diry mouth,i guess not all yr points re bad as the way u look but dont wish bad upon anyone .eveything u stated on 26 will happen to u ,rubbish man.weshe ukutuka ndekukapula ulupi!!!!!!!!!

  79. When his pension runs out, Teka Farm should up production to cover LPM’s costs. If that is not enough then the first lady should use her Copper exporting business to cover her husbands medical bills. If that is still not enough then Mwanawasa’s law firm should step in to cover the costs. But if that is not enough then the ‘family tree’ will have to dig deep into their pockets to cover the costs of their relative. The poor Zambians can’t afford to keep one man in hospital when he has not done anything to improve the health sector in Zambia.

  80. Lets face facts guys, for those of us who are being patriotic by paying for relatives education lol!…..if you pay school fees for a while and no progress up date is being given (everytime u ask ur told “bapasa ku skulu”) but there is no evidence of this….what do you do?

  81. #98 Ata ba Mapi naimwe

You like most of the fools on this blogg who want to know Levy’s medical bill are without any grain of wisdom.

Even if you had to Know the figures so what? It will not change anything in your life or your childrens lives.

In any case why waste your energy on useless matters
Find a life you foolish *****.

  82. Mwe bantu mwe, I need to know did we have better facilities even in Kaunda and Chilubas era?. We all know very well that the good facilities we are talking about were not there even in Kaundas era. If its conderming lets us conderm all the three Katekas. Correct me if am wrong on the facilites.

  83. Coward Golyati u should understand what we are talking about. Problem is that you are coming from street and so dont understand what it takes to have the right info. we are asking for the bill and not the GRZ to stop paying for the patient. what kind of english do u understand? Go back to skool sick f*cker!!

  84. Mwebantu i visited home last October, i couldnt believe my eyes when i saw Bishop Mambo on ZNBC, ravaged – thats the word- bashalafye imisakalala. Probably that could partly explain why his Grace isnt for the ‘diclosure’ idea.

  85. I have a boyfriend but he is an ***** and boring in bed.
sorry to ask but i have to take revenge on him i am in Lusaka

  86. As long as we are ruling and yours for the take are blog based rants without mileage its fine. The National cake, treasury, Defense and security lines of command salute to us, the budget making and expenditure is with us. Treaties and conventions are with us all is fine.LPM under the healing process can be in recovery even for the next 3 months. We gat it everything on the wheels of progress. If need be God forbid,we have sufficient capacity wisely spread around the country and in the international community to keep this nation forward.

  87. ‘Veep right person to act as President’

THE Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) says Vice-President Rupiah Banda is the right person to act as President in the absence of the incumbent, Levy Mwanawasa, who is admitted to hospital in France.LAZ president Elijah Banda said this yesterday in a statement issued in Lusaka.

  88. Did you know that Zambia imports Electricity from DRC.
    FACTS:
DCR has been @ war since 1961
    DRC most areas impaceable
    DRC @ war today
    ZAMBIA @ peace since 1964
    Zambia @ peace today
    Zambia a multiparty democracy

How did we get that stupid not even to be able to develop our God given natural resources. Very we we will start importing water to drink from Soudi Arebia.

  89. “From the time President Mwanawasa, a member of the association (LAZ) and also a life member of the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), was taken ill and admitted to Percy Military Hospital in France, the association has been approached by various institutions and individuals asking it to state its position on the matter as regards the functions of the office of the President,” he said.Mr Banda said the discharge of the functions of the President during the absence or illness of the incumbent was covered under Article 39 of the republican constitution.

  90. The article states: “Whenever the President is absent from Zambia, or considers it desirable so to do by reason of illness or for any other cause, he may by direction in writing, authorise the Vice-President, or where the Vice-President is absent from Zambia or is incapable of discharging the functions of the office of President, any other person, to discharge functions of his office of the President as he may specify, and the Vice-President or such person may discharge those functions until his authority is revoked by the President.

  91. “If the President is incapable by reason of physical or mental infirmity of discharging the functions of his office and the infirmity is of such a nature that the President is unable to authorise another person under this Article to perform those functions; the Vice-President; or during any period when the Vice-President is absent from Zambia or is himself, by reason of physical or mental infirmity, unable to perform the functions of his office, such member of the Cabinet as the Cabinet shall elect; shall perform the functions of the office of the President,” the Article reads in part.

  92. Am disappointed at how we can reduce the president’s medical bills to such cheap talk. He embodies the entire Zambian society and therefore no cost must be spared in saving his life. Am a tax payer and I strongly feel that his health is top priority. Such expenditure is treated as supplementary expenditure as it was not foreseen in the budget. If resources are not obtained from other less important areas, then a bill is brought before parliament for approval. Accountability and transparency will still prevail so there’s no need for any alarm. Unless people are saying we let the man die, that is heartless!

  93. #101 it is not good to call each other names.Lets have arguements with substance.Even LPM is closer to you than most of us no need to be emotional. Our lives won’t change? That is more like letting a very irresponsible father to get way with the fact that he doesn’t sponsor his children just because he has a small salary. If you’ve ever hoped for a better zambia,This is yo time to contribute(in a good respectful manner).it starts from here our voices may be small for now,but for now we haven’t just sat back,we’ve let them know that we are not happy with the little info we are getting about LPM.Sitting back and cnot complain won’t change your life neither so atleast do what might.

  94. It also reads that any person acting as President shall cease to perform the functions when they are notified by the Speaker of the National Assembly that the President is about to resume duties or if another person is elected as head of State. The article also states that if the President is incapable of authorising another person to act in his position because of physical or mental infirmity of discharging the functions, a certificate from the Chief Justice is required.

  95. The certificate from the Chief Justice would, however, need National Assembly ratification for it to come into effect that the President is incapable of performing his duties.

The certificate shall cease to be effective if the Speaker notifies the acting President that the incumbent is about to resume duties or another person is elected to the office of head of State.

  96. Guys forget about Cabbage, He is dead…. Important issue that should catch your eye is we are importing electricity from DRC of all places. You can argue about who succededs cabbage that aint gonna change nothing.

  97. #107 and 108 please can you show some maturity. Do not use my blog name. I am apparently above that cheap nonsense

  98. #102 Macha. Correct me if iam wrong on this one, in the Kaunda era at least we had meds in hospitals, may not have had the latest equipment like the ones LPM is using in France but then again we had little if any medical conditions like this that required those equipments. How many VIP’s have gone to SA for same treatment on Strokes, Heart problems etc in the last 20 yrs? MANY, and hence the need for those equipments to have been bought and put in institutions that required them for all Zambians to use. Tell me how many can we afford to send to Percy Hospital in the future? this is a wake up call which is very long over due, and a costly lesson to learn from.

  99. There is no need to assemble a medical examination team as espoused in some rubbish talk by those we challenge to gang and go to hell with their dreams.Tell them they can hang with their lungs out, Zambia is in no crisis as all structures of power are functional. We are just hosting a smart partnership with 7 foreign heads of states and Government in the presence of a full Diplomatic corp. Can such a thing happen under a crisis? To hell with all dreamers and opportunists. We dare them to initiate their own cantakarous Medical examinations and see where it will take them.

  100. #46 & 47 if that is the estimate for costs; then I see the time of reckoning coming sooner than later, unless there is fast progress with LPM, other wise the discontecy is likely to grow as we analyse the figures against the poverty levels in the country. Now we are begining to see what such amounts would translate into, if we had to buy equipment for specialised care even for two hospitals. It also shows that money is there we can manage to do more better things. At the moment its like the national cake goes to the expedient and emegency needs of the ruling class-‘higher mortals’.I agree with HH, thats why the Local Govt level has been deliberately neglected-the gap is more visible now!!

  101. We need new elections so that we can a leader voted by the majority of people in Zambia. As far as I’m concerned LPM forced himself on the people of Zambia. The denied him in 2001 and 2006 but stuborn man did not listen to his body, had he retired even in 2006 when he had his first stroke, he would have been in court defending himself against corruption charges just like FTJ. The fight against corruption needs to go on and LPM and family are next to go to court to defend themselves.

  102. This predicament of sending govt leaders for treament abroad should have been avoided. The zambian mentality that says that anything foreign is good must be stopped. If we combined Chiluba’s, Sata’s medicall bills and LPM medical bills, that will be enough to buy equipment to keep these so called leaders at home. Unless you tell me that we do not have the expertise, of which i beg to differ. Our Doctors must stand up and save their onw pride. Chiluba is set to go back to SA to have his heart medications adjusted says his personal physician Dr. Kangwa, what a Joke. what does Kangwa do when he goes to SA with Chiluba?

  103. So ba LPM was not even going to church and when the people of Zambia start to ask questions about his health, when he is stepping down and the current cost of keep him and his family in a french hospital, all we are told is that we should just ‘pray for him’. Yes we can remember him in our prayers as an individual and family man but as a politician, we need to know how much it is costing us. I suggest we have mass demostrations to demand for clear and unbiased information on the current state of the president and we also need to know if he is carrying on or if he is stepping down so that he and the family tree can start to attend court and prison.

  104. To day FTJ is in problems partly coz he never used to disclose medical bills to the nation each time he was flown abroad hence his called a thieif.

  105. Honestly speaking does’nt Mwanawasa have health insurance? Awe mwandi that’s being irresponsible to say the least. Looks like if Zambia was to remain with only K1 trillion in its coffers and decide whether to spend it on Mwanawasa’s treatment or on the majority Zambians, it would go to the former. Nshaaaamonapo!

  106. this is one ***** bishop, how did he catch AIDS??? MAN OF God na HIV shame Bishop Mambo

  107. # 134 i was wondering why he lost weight so fast so it was Aids, for as long as he screw ba praise team he is at risk

  108. The debate about Levy’s medical bill is really interesting. Personally I think we need to know how much is being spent on Levy, although I am quite aware that a large portion of the budget allocation was given to State House which was about 12 Billion if I am not mistaken, and that is where the money is coming from.
There is nothing wrong in asking to be informed on how much is being spent. For us who are in the west hear about these things daily i.e. how much Gordon Brown spent on his trip to the USA recently, and even her Majesty the Queen!
What is fuss about knowing the medical bill for Levy? Knowing our politicians back home, this is a state secret like his illness and condition.

  109. I do not agree with the Bishop. What has happened to our President is unfortunate, but does not mean we should not be given information on how much Govt resources have been spent so far. The president is entitled to receive the best medical care and I have no problem with that. I do have problems with people like the Bishop who seem to think that if the information is made public, we are against the president.
This kind of thinking is so retrogressive and primitive and has cost us so much wealth in the past.Truthfully speaking, the president is our employee and we are concerned about his ill health and we ought to know what is happening to him including who is on his bedside.

  110. #138 Cabbage is dead get over it. You people are just making such a big deal of the death of a cabbage. how many people die @ UTH needlessly. The money GRZ will be spending on the Mortuary in France can be better used to improve hospitals back home. Its a typical african crap where you heroe worship someone because they have died. Cabbage was a mean tribalist and nepotists and he should be remembered just like that.

  111. #138 right on!there is nothing wrong with us knowing how much is being spent on LPM s bill. What is bishop saying about the president like ant citizen being entitled bishop the perz is not like ant citizen thats why all the citizens are footing his bill ‘any other citizen has to make do with what our good Docs at uth can do to the best of knowledge considering the state of the health sector in zed.i wish LPM a quick recovery and if i want to know how much it is costing im not against him.

  112. Coronation of English Sovereigns – Edward II, The Martyr’ … Pavilion Aldershot’, ‘Coronation Guest – King Lewanika of Barotseland’ Chitimukulu was busy defacating in the bush!.

  113. Golyati what ever you call yourself go to ward Ao3 heamatology in UTH and you will understand why people on this blog are concerned about medical cost.Just go and spend a few hours with those people there, ask them for how long they’ve been there, what they eat and what is been done for them.

  114. Levy’s Medical bill should be made public including all other expenses. It’s the Zambians money being used but perhaps it’s just bad timimng to question this…Wheather we like him or not his our President for now and all we could do is wish him well.

If he recovers,he should seriously reflect on the need for Zambians to be provided with quality medical treatment as himself and his people. It hurts to see sub standard medical facilities in the Zambian Hospitals when the Govt officials are enjoying the little hard earned over taxed Zambian salaries. How much does an essential CT scanner needed in all Govt Hospitals cost to only have one malfunctional at UTH?They’d rather buy luxiourious 4x4s

  115. #143 KINA What was so special defacating at Pavilion Aldershot? for you to insult the Chiti? and you wonder why you never rule Z. Grow up.

  116. #132, no the MIMI of #128 and #137 is not the Mimi you know. It is one of the many *****s who has decided to smear my image with their stinking childishness. I have since chosen another name and let this copycat continue in his/her madness.

  117. No.134 Dont’ discriminate aganist HIV.We are all affected or infected,There is no safe position in Life, unless you are a virgin..so goes for any other illness.Could be you tommorrow

  118. #79 Golyati ulicilishilu. Waba kalupala.

What is your point any way? Levy`s life is more importatant than that of your relatives? You *****. I thought time to worship people was long gone. Are you on his pay roll or something?

People are demanding to know what is happening.

  119. No.100. My answer is to reinforce!!!!!…huh now i see people like you are the ones culminating destitution. Uchingee! that’s a repulsive thought for development.

  120. Lets put emotions aside & look @ this situation logically. Our President is very and @ this moment the best possible medical attention to save his life. However, those demanding to know the cost of medical treatment abroad have a valid point! Our politicians find it convenient to neglect local medical infrastructure because they know they’ll nevefr use it so long they are in power. If they had to use similar hospitals/schools as the masses do, trust me, they’d heavily invest in them for everyones benefit! Kaunda used/uses UTH & sent his kids to Govt schools. In came FJT & his goons & they started living the ‘good’ life. These are the after effects.

  121. I recall some MMD cadre bloggers on LT a few wks ago, when someone questioned the cost in Paris, they claimed French Govt was footing the bill? But according to Mulongoti/Mambo’s reaction, this is not the case? Keeping a huge entourage indefinitely in western Europe will cost us tax payers an arm & a leg! Ironically we also continue to spend on the alleged crook FJT & perhaps will need to send Sata for further medical help! I shudder to think of the colossal hit to our treasury! Levy, hopefully, when u return, u will ask Magande to budget for more funding to Min of Health so that atleast each province can have well equiped referral hospitals with ICU/MRI machines etc…

  122. Paying for the president’s medical expenses abroad is fine for a short period of time but keeping relatives and some civil servants in expensive hotels in France using Zambian tax payers money is wrong and unacceptable. Cabinet office should restrict travelling by ministers until further notice as this is costing the Zambian government a lot of money and I am worried for some of you politicians because you might be visited by some agencies for failing to retire your imprest correctly.

  123. Am very dissappointed with the bishop and the minister. What is wrong in wanting to know the cost of medical bills ? Here in the uk, these issues are not private, its tax’payers money.

The queen declares her expenses and everyone else does the same. Am suprised that, the minister says its uncalled for. I thought its a democracy?????

Am better off here were my tax is accounted for than in zed were everything is a STATE Secret.

  124. SO IF BANA CHIPO GOT SICK THERE IS MONEY PUT ASIDE TO FLY HER TO EMORY MEDICAL IN THE U.S KA?…GRZ WHAT A LET DOWN OH MA GOD!!!!!!!MUST BE NICE TO BE IN THE FIRT FAMILY……

  125. Bishop Mambo, Levy like a public company listed on the stock exchaneg publishes its accounts because the capotal is raised from the public, so it is Levy was given a mandate by the public and he is being looked after by the public so the public deserve to know what is the heck is going on with their public resources so that if is going in a bottomless pit then we can cut our losses before it is too late!

  126. What is immoral is to take God’s people the tax payers for granted. Time will come when their patience wil runout. Remember how they exploded on the ‘hour has come and ‘no 3rd term’! We cant continue to be treated as pipo who cant think by those we have put in office thru our vote.

  127. Good question. can some one answer it. what do people like chiluba’s personal physician Dr. Kangwa do when he goes to south africa? Can someone on this blog answer us.

  128. Nothing #158 except to claim allowances and have a good time, after all it is a sponsored trip by the tax payers. The tax payers are footing the bill when they cant even put panadol in their own hospital. I cant imagine what fraction of the health budget is equivalent to what has been used by FTJ, MCS and LPM. Every tax payer must now demand to be treated abroad when need be.

  129. even tu bene simon miti. What do they do at times like these? His in france right now. He needs to come back wait for LPM goverment to leave office and then face charges. His been busy cutting deals for himself when buying drugs for our country.

  130. Its a shame for people like john Mambo to say what he is saying.
He seems to have lost direction. When are we going to learn to be accountable. Regardless of status,if public funds are involved, we need to tell people how the money has been spent.
Even in Countries like britain, the queens expenditure is put public and every tax payer knows how much he/she contributed to their expenses. This just helps us to tell if our tax was well spent or not. As for mwanawasas illness,he deserves the best as a president but as tax payers we need to know how much has been spent FULL STOP

  131. Tough luck guys. Any public fund expense is a budgetary issue subject to scrutiny especially in this case where there’s no threshold level established. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to know. Those who don’t have an interest must shut-up and ignore the whole thing. The thing is that knowing now will greatly help us as a nation on how to be better prepared for such eventualities in future. The big problem we have is not being policy conscious and accept implementation of such. This is not the last case we shall have to deal with, many are to come.

  132. People like Dr Kangwa go shopping, sightseeing and visit the x-rayed clubs that exist in RSA and not in Zambia. While he is there he is using the tax-payers’ monies to conduct himself in a very immoral manner. Believe me, these guys are up to no good when they travel out and think no-one is watching. They are full of evil deeds. Staying in very expensive hotels entertaining thier small mamas and visiting striptees. They are evil!! Watching naked women with their mouths and eyes open widely and even forgetting ati he has escorted a sick former prezo. Someone tell do you think if Chiluba was admitted at UTH could Dr. Kangwa sit by the bedside? Or go to Chamba Valley Special Branch Club????

  133. Just send the chap back to UTH,if all the ordinary Zambians go there why should he not.
Anyway the machine should be turned off,its costing to much money to ran.If he dies too bad if he survives good luck but just switch off the dame thing!

  134. # 21. Anonymous, It wrong for you to start using this forum in pointing fingers at a Man of God that he has multiple girl friends. Can you name them? How do you know that Bishop Mambo is HIV?

  135. How many pipo are sposored by GRZ to wait for PLM in france ?. I bet they have booked the whole floor of a hotel.

  136. #164. Anonymous, Lets not accuse people of immorality, Have you ever seen Dr. Kangwa in South Africa sightseeing and visiting the x-rayed clubs. Dr. Kangwa is a very respected Zambian Doctor, He is not capable of the things you have mentioned. Dr. Chiluba may not be an accused man, but it does not mean also that his special assistants are not decent. Can you tell us which x-rayed clubs Dr. Chiluba’s delegates are visiting in South Africa, Do you have any proof.

  137. People why rant about the medical bills of the president that is irrelevant here.

What we should be asking is why ZAMBIAN people have no medical facilities?

HOW many ZAMBIANS can afford to medical bills?

Why are medical professional leaving the country to go work elsewhere?

Why wouldn’t the president be flown to Zambia and get medical treatment here?

How many ZAMBIANS have access to medical treatment?

How many ZAMBIANS die from malaria when developed countries have eradicated malaria non-existent in their countries?

I wonder how many politicians go to UTH to get treatment there?

  138. continued,

Every ZAMBIAN has the right to have medical treatment whether it is a president or ordinary citizen.

It is unfair that politicians have access to the best treatment that there is in the world but an ordinary ZAMBIAN cannot.

This is a case of the “HAVES” and the “DON’T HAVE” it is sad.

Why should the life of a president be more important than the life of an ordinary citizen, after all we put them in govt.

AS a ZAMBIAN it is your right, if you don’t have this right lets vote them out period!!! whether its LPM or not

  139. People wonder why Africa lacks serious investments.LPM’s illness tells it all.How can the illness of a head of state be handed in such secrecy in a “Democracy”.Can you imagine the anxiety of investors abroad who have invested their money in Zambia???They are not sure what will happen next. This explains why Africa will always lag behing in terms of development .Self interest first!!!!!

  140. Folks, Levy fell sick on government duties as such is entitled to the best medical care. He fell sick in egypt and doctors treating him referred him to France. Do you surely expect him to be brought back to Zambia while he is still “stable”? We should complain about FTJ and Regina who appearing in court for having “long fingers” and at the same time we are paying for their holiday in RSA.

  141. #173 timbaland

Do you know why he cant be flown back to ZAMBIA? He knows he will die in UTH. If u cant expect LPM to go UTH why should we expect ZAMBIANS to go to UTH?

Obviously, there is millions of tax payers money for LPM to go to any hospital he wishes but an ordinary ZAMBIAN cant.

What an saying is that we shouldn’t expect less for the people just as we dont expect less for the President.

  142. KK was ill a while back and admitted to UTH.
LPM,MCS and FTJ always run for treatment abroad. Is it an MMD health policy?

  143. KK was ill a while back and admitted to UTH.
LPM,MCS and FTJ always run for treatment abroad. Is it an MMD health policy?

  144. KK was ill a while back and admitted to UTH.
LPM,MCS and FTJ always run for treatment abroad. Is it an MMD health policy?

  145. fellow blogers, I am a chainama case, so please ignore my comments, every once in a while I go into this manic phase and I do not realise what I post

  146. This is our money and we are wholly within our rights to know how much of it is being spent on this man. We have for a while now been saying tell us his condition in total but you keep on telling lies fueling speculation even among the ungrateful Mbekis of this world who are now spreading malicious rumours that Levy is dead. If you do not want to tell us the real truth, then pick up the bill yourselves you fools.

  147. #48, u never learn ur conduct is the same exhibited when mazoka was leading in 2001 for a few hrs we clearly so how tribal u got, even when choosing a mazoka replacement u tribaly dribbled SAKI we have no room for such in villages in zambia unless u refrain from tribal politics u will never go to state house especialy with the 50+1 now. Remember even HH had to cleanse the party of your fellow tribalists like ngalandes. U are costing HH a big fourtune fighting tribalism from his tibes men.

  148. #65, keep the Lozis out of your misgivings with #48. What is the connection between #48’s contribution and the Lozis, since what i see is they are put in one basket that does not belong to the original Zambians, according to Hamaundu Collins?

  149. What next is the question that our govt should ask themselves. We cannot go on spending too much money on someone who is already dead, machines are the ones keeping him alive. Not only do we want to know the total expenditure but we have to cut the cost ASAP. As much as we know that he is our leader but then if he is not improving, we need to move ahead. We are the ones that we face poverty five years from now. Our country is one of the poorest hence we need to be careful.

  150. New elections and a good leader is what we currently need!!!!!!!!We should be very careful when voting for the new leader or history will repeat itself.

Anonymous & Anonymous for Real…. which of you is the old one that we have been communicating with.I’m confused…

  151. ZIMYA *****
What is the logic of you trying to know about Levy’s bill. As if we gave it to you you would be able to pay. Afterall you can berely manage your children’s school fees and your wife has to move around in borrowed clothes from her young sister.

The intelligent thing was for you to have been enquiring as to what kind of a stroke Levy has? and whether he would be able to funtion normally after discharge? and what are the potential consequences of having no President for a while.
You are failing to manage your electricty bills and yet you want us to give you Levy’s bill.

  152. Talking about medical bills?Mwanawasa has a legacy of transparency,if he was to come back he would print all the cost incured in France in every tabloid in Zambia. That he would definitely do i respect him for that,a great legacy he will leave behind.Agree that our leadership has focused on medical treatment abroad not a good thing, lets recapitalise our hospitals, equip them and pay well the staff in them.Lets make it good for every Zambian.Let there be no need to dash to JHB for treatment.Ba KK bayafye pa kalingalinga for treatment,i wish it could be so everyone in Government.Levy suffered the stroke in Egypt it was inevitable he is seen in another Countriys hospital. If his whole clan is

  153. I recall a huge debate, not too long ago, about the alleged amount of money budgeted for ‘State House Health issues’….I am not sure memory serves me right, but does anyone remember a random 27 billion being mentioned? …..maybe someone had a vision…..

  154. in France then thus scandalous, adjustments have to be made to that and thus the responsibility of controlling officers of Government.Levy is a special case and deserves the best of treatment and must be treated as so,however lessons must be learnt from this, this is coming out of the spirit of compassion and ba KKs humanism. If we are paying all that money to keep someone on a ventilator for one year on then thus plunder. At what point does Government controlling officers question the expence in an emotionally charged prayerful Zambia nobody knows.Lets put emotions aside and let Levys family take responsibilty as well,we would not want to chase them around like kafupis family.

  155. This is not only a lesson but also a sonuding bell telling us it’s time to develop our hospitals and clinics because we will not manage to fly government officals all the time and yet when a commoner is sick the government doesn’t even care and bother to provide for the stick person, not even looking into the health system bothers them, for this government and the onez to come please enforce proper policies that will benefit every ZAMBIAN…

  156. By the way is SADC picking up some of the Bill?surely Mugabe had alot to do with the pressure exerted on our dear Levy he might as well pay some of his trillions Zim Dollar, and Mbeki as well made Levy get extremely agitated with his aloofness and no co-operative stance over Zimbambwe.Let these Guys pick up the Bills as well.
Endorse in our constitution that all MPs and Presidential candidates must under go medical examination by independent board or or team. These are some of the lessons.Look at how many by elections we have for MPs wasted money lets be sincere.I did submit this to the constitution review

  157. God is and will never be mocked. Bushe you think suddenly when you begin to pray God will answer promptly? We should have started praying for the president in 1995 when he met his fate in the deadly accident. Also the souls that die at local hospitals, clinics and also in homes because they dont have money to pay in hospitals, are crying for justice. Some people who have died should have not died had government improved hospitals and clinics in zed. Lets be realistic, some people have lost beloved ones and whether rich or poor, souls have been lost and eternal wounds and scars inflicted upon those left behind. Do you think they are praying for this govt? I wait to hear from you

  158. #193 You are right!!!I’m not one of those praying for this govt that is so selfish and only think about themselves. Yaa some pipo who died could have lived if our hospitals & clinics were in good condition with all medical equipments required for any type of disease.

  159. Mambo is nothing but a disguised thug. He was made a bishop by whom?

These churches that mushroom from people’s bedrooms are a recipe for moral decay and incapacitated democracy.

  160. i certainly think that it is not right to critisize levys illness, anyone can fall sick and would seek good medical treatment, but for him (levy) being the natoinal leader i think he deserves the best medical treatment no matter how much it takes or costs. personally i do think that levys is not wasting our money because he’s already dead so the ones increasing the bill are those hiding in france like maureen and the others trying to cheat and calm the situation that levy is alive

  161. 187. Golyati mudala tekanyeni, osati kukalipa maningi lest you get hit by a stroke and deported to a hosipital in an obscure district of zambia.

What you’re saying is true, equality is but a facade sold to the masses. we get it. Perhaps the reason behind why zimya and so many others would like to know the bill is so they put a cap in the constitution on how much can be spent when one GRZ official opts to go overseas for treatment. That way most of them would turn to UTH and pay fees of the uppermwamba, consequently retain experts and maintenance of equipment.

  162. #196 that is why he should be removed from those machines and brought home for burial. As much as Levy deserves best treatment, the govt should not over spend at the expense of our future. If Levy could speak for himself, I think he would accept to be removed from those machines. He has had enough its time his soul should be put to rest.I respect the dead but I’m sick and tired of the same stories from govt. We shall all die some day, this world is not our home we are visitors.

  163. LPM is bearing the blunt of being a public figure. Its not easy to be in public limelight, it comes with a lot of associated costs, like the way each and everyone of most of us are ranting this and that about Levy’s illness. Which ever way you look at it we need to know the cost of keeping a comatose president at some military hospital in france indefinately.

  164. Funny how tese Bishops want take oportunities to add to their milleage if any. Theres nothing wrong in knowing the expenses so far in France. That will also help BOMA make certain decisions as to who remains in France. Right now the whole banja is in France at BOMA expense. At my workplace (BOMA dept), You are only entitled to a maximum of K 10, 000, 000 annually in medical expenses, meaning if your disease requires something above 10 M, u top up from your already taxed income. This policy was ratified by LPMs’ Cabinet. Whats so sacred in knowing LPMs expenses so far? What are certain Aunties, Uncles, BOMA officials doing in France? BOMA dept have had their monthly allocations cut & reduced

  165. Bishop Mambo is not in touch with reality. The Govt has been economical with the truth and for sure we Zed’s are no longer interested in hypocrites. The sooner they tells us the truth the better for them to govern though we are so sure that we will have a bye election(Presidential). It is us taxpayers at the end of the day that are cheated out of everything. Take a walk to the Livingstone General Hospital Pharmacy and tell me if thats worth being called a Pharmacy, we are not witchhunting Bishop but we want to Justice to prevail to all Zambians. If this is a lesson God is teaching the Government of Zambia then let it be unless you have not experienced our unhealthy system.

  166. #49 my dear its impossible to know what the constitution says because the only copies available are in Lenje and lamba.

  167. It is indeed a country run as a family business. While people are cutting down on flying Levy’s relatives are making frequent visits to France.
It is a shame that whenever our top politicians are unwell they go abroad for medical care. Why? They know how crap our medical services are in the country. They send their children abroad for school because our schools are not to their standard.THEY ARE ABOVE THAT.
As for the expences, the Monarch in the UK are the most transparent. We all know how much Prince Charles expenditure is,we know how much was spend on Prince Harry when he went to Afghanistan and so on.But as for the Zambian leaders it is a sacred cow that should not be slaughtered.

  168. There comes a time in a life time when money has no value, when it cannot be measured and when its value cannot be compared to life. There are those who have treasured money so much that they wanted to save even when their beloved ones were in problem. They uplifted money above life.

  169. Anyone seen the Bishop of late, his health is failing him and am sure funds willing he would love to make a date with the military hospital in France. Dont tell me he wouldnt want to know the cost of his medication. Govt should be sincere with there updates regarding LPM. # 201, u’re absolutely right, the pharmacy in Lstone is a shame just like UTH. Most hosipitals are only known for congestion in the morgues, nothing else. Recruit and retain qualified and comiited medical practioners, renovate most hospitals, stock them with a varriety of medicine and modern equipment etc that all i am asking as a Zambian. No need for expired drugs, unnecessary foreing medical trips, twacula pafula.

  170. Watching Jomo Kenyatta’s son Uhuru on Hard Talk last night was a neuseating experience. The pompous converted Anglophile who returned home after schooling in the West spoke and gestured like a character from Owen’s animal farm, the least fine example of a well bred Kikuyu son of Jomo Kenyans hoped he would become. He clearly has picked up some uncouth airs and graces along the way and I wonder whether he realises that the Western world pokes fun at his clearly fake accent and air of pomposity that smack of rotten arrogance. He portrays himself as a British aristocrat and yet we all know his Mau Mau background, the day he becomes Sir Kenyatta is the day Christ comes back.

  171. Fine Guys thats enough cease fire, l will tell you all the best way to get the bill, its a simple matter you dont need all this debate.

  172. No minister has had the guts of getting through to Levy except the few relatives known to his wife. His wife is the one giving updates via her own relatives-VERY TRANSPARENT INDEED!
The French are more than delighted to keep him for as long as they wish because being a private hospital it will generate revenue for its own people.
Funny thing about these hospitals they capitalise on people’s ignorance. They enjoy admitting patients from the likes of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia as these don’t feel the pinch when they pay.One even tipped £1 million to the hospital for having looked after his dad.

  173. whats going pa zed ? am coming soon to visit, hope all this problem concerning levy will be soughted. Tell the people how much you are spending, if its in the budget, why worry??

As for the bishop, no comment cause i dont know much about your health. We shall see…

  174. For those advocating good health facilities or medical care, do you really stop and ask yourselves this question; “WHERE DOES GEORGE BUSH, THABO MBEKI, BOB MUGABE, AND POHAMBA” go for medical treatment? Ofcourse these are all human and i expect them to fall sick at one point. So do they silently go to UK or US or some hospital outside their countries of origin?
Why has it to be Chiluba or Mwanawasa’s health being so important than a girl suffering from throat cancer or any one in Kaputa suffering from simple conjuctivitis or cataract needing a simple operation?

  175. No one is saying it is wrong to spend tax payer’s money on mending the damaged heart or brain of a fellow citizen of Zambia especially when it is the dead of state himself. However, its also the right of the people of this country to know whether this money is all going for a lost cause. There is also the opportunity cost, millions of Zambians are without education, clean water or health insurance, now, should the life of one man, even if that man were a president, be more important and come first? The answer is an emphatic no! We can replace Levy and forego the costs so that many Zambians can have a chance too in life just like he was provided himself.

  176. Priorities!!!! In all honesty, the matter of a presidents health and transport are matters of “state security”…I say this becoz as a president one should only trust ones own trained pilots to fly them – if u have a a set of foreign pilots, theyr not obliged to be loyal. The same applies to health care providers, but I think when push comes to shove, if I had Simon Miti and Kangwa for doctors even I would seek help outside the country lol!!!

  177. Any way Maureen has got what she wanted, she was the one pushing Levy to go on after the first stroke, now he is breathing through a hole cut on his neck, and putting on ‘Ichikwesa’

  178. #211 and #212 your contributions make sense. The mentiones leaders use their own medical services.
KK was and is still a shining example.Even his own kids were educated locally.Don’t you remember KK going for check ups at UTH? No wonder he is still healthy!
Sata learnt a very big lesson when he was treated in SA and he pointed out that whatever services he received could be accessed at home.We have competent medical staff it’s just that the hospitals have no facilities.
Same goes for the education system.Again KK’s education system is second to none.Zambians stand out even in these universities (save for the ones pushed by their apa mwamba families).

  179. Talking about the same things everyday. Others are doing something different everyday! Lets find what to do so we are kept busy!!! This issue about Levy doe not seem to end!!! We give out solutions and none followed. What do we do? Lets feed our families!!!!

Its a lame issue! No control over it! Its easy to be played! I just think time will tell. I know what to do but cant do anything about it. Just as i am seeing the KWACHA sliding. Hey work work work.

  180. When you become, head of state, you qualify for a lot of privelleges and that is why Levy is in France. You are using Kaunda as an example, Kaunda is in good health unlike Levy and FTJ because he took care of himself-exercise and what he eats. I can guarantee you that if Kaunda ever got sick was going to be treated abroad. We should improve our health facilities at the same time invite private instutions like Medi Clinic to invest in Zambia.

  181. #131. be mindful of what you say because this is coming on you soon. mind you lpm is a lead whether dead or alive.
    may God forgive you.

  182. #216, i do remember that recently KK went to UTH for an elevated blood pressure. If it was Levy he would have gone to london. I think to some extent we are reaping what we sow. KK left very good infrastructure only to be destroyed by Chiluba and the destruction enhenced by Levy. If only John Mambo knows what he is talking about, he would have retracted his statement becoz he doesnt pay tax rather he is a beneficiary of the offertory at the Church of God. He shud be ashamed of himself or is it a strategy that shud he get serious, he will be whisked away to south africa?
    Yaba, ichalo cesu twashila bakolwe

  183. How can you have your politicians treated abroad while your hospitals lack even the basic paracetamol? What happens to someone in Shangombo or Kwa na Bwalya when they require an emergency caesarean section or emergency dental treament? Someone is dying because they have no malaria treatment every second while others don’t ahve money to take someone to the nearest rural health centre.Others are being transported o wheel burrows or carts for hours on end.By the time they get there they are grossly dehydrated and make matters even worse there are no needles or fluids to recuscitate then.
No wonder your prayers are still hanging somewhere in the sky.

  184. Ba #22. Are you sure we know the bills for a suspected criminal-Chiluba? Sata? Even your own bills should you be admitted to UTH, Would you be comfortable to display yo medical bills at yo place of work? Comeon bloggers don’t be petty! Discuss issues which can help you think of how to put money in your pockets and have food for kids, if you have any, or yo aging parents if at all you remember you have any…..

  185. #206 Im sorry but I thought the Kenyatta fellow handled himself very well on Hard Talk. He was astitute and did not fall in any of the traps set by the interviewer. Infact he was able to unsettle the interviewer

  186. LPM’s health” STABLE” Kafupi’s blood pressure “RISING AND UNSTABLE” Tuli muchibe na stable versus unstable

  187. 3/4 of you chaps are sleazy lazy wanking *****s stealing company time in this Lazymen’s blogg.
Raise good debatable issues unlike the same nonsense. Malabishi!

  188. #227, where do you lie? in the 1/4 or 3/4? I think its better to blog than go and misbahave out there. its better LT keeps me busy then i know that my mind is occupied. No wonder you are Pungwa, just flying to catch helpless worms and birds, grow up and mature. If you have nothing to offer for a mooting, keep to yourself okay.

  189. fellow citizens, have you seen how expensive and painful to have a President who is sick in Office? Lets not make a mistake next time to elect candidates (Presidents) who have questionable health as this will cost the nations billions of Dollars and valuable time. Sata is an exmple of such a candidate. The man is a walking coffin (sorry to say that) but thats the fact!!

  190. # 224, You are very right. Be aware that all those that are calling for Medical bills are BEMBA COWARDS. Look at all their postings on this blog. They are so selective and biased. Why should it be on LPM and not Kafupi or Sata ?
Chiluba sold our two fuel ships which were in Tanzania, where did he take the money ? The government has belt a House for Dr Kaunda, why are they not talking about it ? Vengeancy, tribalism and selfishness is what they are known for.

  191. And wasnt the nation against the underpaid doctors of the UTH when they insisted that prseidential candidates should have HIV tests as well as disclosed medical records……hindsight is truly 20/20

  192. Chali-are you a concerned zambian regarding the health of presidential candidate or you are scared that sata will “wire” you and your prefered candidate.

How many times has sata fallen sick for you to say he is unhealthy. If he is unhealth, fine let the doctors assess him and advise us accordingly-we in PF.

In the same spirit of assessing people health, let zambian doctors assess mwanawasa so that we act accordingly

Say what you want, do what you want-you will be wired badly, there after you will scamper for safety

  193. i think we zambian are good at talking and jet we never take action so what are we as zambians going to do about this whole thing where is the cheif justice en what is saying

  194. Just a question, why do we treat our leaders like Kings/gods?? Will my learned colleagues who stay in the west please educate/enlighten me on how people that side treat their leaders. ESK, Lealui

  195. Do Zambians know how much it costed Chiluba and Sata? Why is it that now there are questions being asked when the same could have been asked before???

  196. golyati, like your name suggests you r an *****IC FOOL just keep shut up if you ve nothing costructive to say OK.

  197. SORRY ITS KALUMBI NOT YOU GOLYATI.KALUMBI like your name suggests you r an *****IC FOOL just keep shut up if you ve nothing costructive to say OK.

  198. #48 I have now known the reason you Tongas will NEVER become presidents of the this land. You are too tribalistic.Peaple like you need to be in villages like your case-in Zambezi.Mazoka died with a dialysis on his hand. What are you talking about?Thanx to God Tongas will never become Presidents!!!

  199. #236, Chinsali MP, I would want to congratulate you when your party wins, but now am concerned with these threats you have continued emphasising of “people scampering for safety.” Do you really intend to harm people when you win such that they should scamper away from you? I thought if you should win then you would be the Govt of the people for the people….Now if you make them scamper, who are going to rule?

  200. it is not right to make public the bill, it is just immorale… the worst form of human behaviour. He is our president for that matter please…! Did u *****s demand to make the bill on Sata public, did u demand to make the bill on Chiluba public? Mule kwata amano…. *****s!

  201. what is so spaecial on lpm’s bill, the mmd govt and their counter parts are all thieves and they are therefore used in using public funds. so stop Castigating each other over the medical bill which never profit any of us on this blog ar the nation. twalinaka nafyo. just take heart gentlemen

  202. I am from Lealui. Here people suffer a lot and I wonder why the presido should stay for a long time in France. Dont we have a good hospital in Zambia where we can also take photographs and see him? Why cant they transfer Levy to UTH.

I think Levy has learned a good lesson. If he survives,he gobna spend money building a good hospital unless he doesnt have good morals and focus. Good lessons for aspiring presidents too. Health should be a priority area and not cars that are suffocating Lusaka City Centre. If he medicine in Farance no woke him up I know a fela in Limulunga who can use African juju and he wona make him jump and walk one time!!

  203. Caeser,

Dont worry about scampering for safety,we will only deal with fools and small chaps. Am sure zambia does not need fools-so will deal with them, even if they run away.

For the wiseones like you caser, we will work together.

Satas and FTJ`s bill have always been debated in public-only fools cant remember for obvious reasons-family tree. Too bad the big tree is about to fall!!!!

When Guy Scott talked about PF refunding govt for sata`s medical bills, figures were attached-you fools, do remember? Say yes sir!!!!!!!

Once more, you chaps will run and scamper for safety, twalateka

  204. Guys i have realised that Bembas are the most tribal people in zambia.I magine how they are scandalising everyone who is not Bemba while heroworshiping people with overwhelming evidence of ransacking the country of its resources yet they are quick at accusing everyone who supports a non Bemba person to be tribal. Why cant we just discuss and debate issues without being tribal.I have discovered some of them are parading as Tonga,Lozi or Lunda and write tribal sentiments on the blog. Please lets bring out reall issues and be honest enough to disagree or agree to disagree.

  205. Hi blogers, I want to asure you all that no one other than Levy will be president of Zambia, But we are now trying to look on as Justice Irene Manbilima we will keep the nation updated

    Regards
    Keep discussing the way forward

  206. #231, let me tell you that bembas are notlike you small tribes who always wait to know the tribe of a person before you can comment. bembas will always rise up check the formation of FDD bembas rose agains FTJ, check PF bembas have risen against sata. but looka at your provincial party UPND) no one can ever rise against that cow header turned into an account.

  207. #233, its so confusing in this country.. Is Ireen Mambilima surely the Deputy Chief Justice? What then is she doing at ECZ as chairperson. Its all corruption at its worst.

There is now a vacuum in MMD party. They have no President, No Vice President, and the chairman Mabenga has refused to call for the NEC meeting. Mpombo is still claiming that he is acting President, no matter what Mulongoti says. Geeee!!!!

  208. Guys, do you remember a book entitled “A Night without a presiden”. Do we need one anyway looking how everything seem to go on like normal? We have had a month without a president. Hear this! “All tribes in Zambia ran away from some wars”. What do you think this being peaceful mean? Think.

  209. #253 you guys are so ignorant.Who is the vice president of UPND?Who is the chairperson of UPND?Why do you talk as if HH is the only person in UPND.Please try to educate yourselves and know the composition of the party before you can label it in any way you like.Compare BY’s party and others. All you hate is someone of presidential acumen to be the top man how about others???
Please lets grow up and debate ideas not cheap tribal politics as it is food for those who lack brains

  210. Ireen Mambilima for president?? NO.

The whispers in lsk suggest someone very close and popular in the legislature. Someone the old guards feel safe with, and that someone sorry to the chinsali MP doesnt hail from your constituency.

But like the old saying goes, dream big it ‘might’ happen.

  211. Tasinta escapee,
And if this sunkuntu chap happens to have once worked for cocacola bottlers instead of ZBreweries, are you still interested?

  212. pipo with minds like #264 and others asking if pipo are single and the like pliz find a beta place. thez serious bznes here, find a porn site im sure it wil suit yo cheap thots..be mature and dont use pipo’s names pliz..

  213. #228 Instruments of Ponyoponyo! iam a whole number 1 not in 1/4 or 3/4 that why i said most of you.
    Ubenchenjeshi bwankoko PUNGWA tasakamana.
Let me just float around and F*ck the likes of MIMI. Chalo chabonse let Pungwa enjoy it’s chickens. No wORRY OVER LPM he is dead ” Ni ba Ancestor nomba”.

  214. #251, u are doing the same thing you are castigating “Bembas” for…stereotyping. So when you call Bembas the most tribal people in Zambia we are all supposed to view it as more legitimate than someone else referring to your tribe as the most tribal. Take a good look in the mirror before you hurl accusations. Has it occured to you that some Tongas, Lozis or Lundas could be parading as Bembas and making ignorant statements such as yours? Before you try to pick out the log in someone elses eye take out the log in yours. Tribalism exists in every single tribe, including your own. Lets not pretend, instead look for tangilble solutions please!

  215. Bati Pungwa, awe ni Pungwa zoona, shetani has over filled you mwe! Limbi tule bepesha satana! Tauli twin brother wa shetani. Let me brace for more insults now. Yaba.

  216. Sunkutu answer the question: Did you work for Zambia Breweries? Is your first name Edmond, you studied at Evelyn Hone, production management?

  217. #266, what type of math do u know?If you said 3/4, then 1/4 remained not 1 as u put it. It just shows that other bloggers have more brains that your small brain befitting ichoni coz pungwa has a small brain and only thinks of reaping where he did not sow, why insulting in the first place? Is it the first time you are being exposed to the internet and blogging? malabishi

  218. LT, conduct a survey to determine the number of *****s with access to a PC/laptop. This site is losing its credibility without moderated posts. see how I can insult … machende … and still get away with it.

  219. “Respect a fool to avoid noise, or the on-lookers may not notice the difference” – unkwown.
People, I am told UNZA was built using the Zambian people’s sacrifice. Is it possible to do some more sacrifices for ourselves so that we can buy/donate the much needed equipment at the UTH and other major health institutions in our country? Are we ready to start-up business projects that may be non-profit making to help fellow Zambian Citizens who need specialist treatment or whatever credible cause?
How patriotic are you as a Zambian wherever you are?

  220. #272 you have small brains!! Only people who fail to think easily get annoyed or become emotional!! Avoid insults!! I have been following Anonymous. He has been changing sides and he backs his argument with facts. He has freedom to say what he feels like saying. Who the hell are you to hurl insults at peole who you dont even know. Just go and coil yourself in your little hut in Chibolya!!

  221. #267 I have been observing all this time and i have never attacked Bembas before but i have realised that every other tribe in Z has been a victim of Bemba bullying and i thought it wise to ask for a stop to it.we are all zambians and should be addressed as such not by tribe but nationality. There were announcements made that no other tribe shall rule Zambia except for Bembas and i was disppointed by this yet again the same was said about UPND.I am sorry to say this is a sad development by both parties because Zambia is for Zambians across the board. We have developed so much and need not look at tribes but capabilities of our leaders as a bench mark for leadership posts.

  222. May I encourage my fellow bloggers to make credible contributions on this blog. The contribution(s) from some individuals are too personal and in some cases too childish.

  223. #278, youo are an ididot to take pleasure in someone’s misfortune. #277, I agree with you. We have so many childish contributions to the effect that the purpose of the sight has been eroded. Immature people should not have access.
