K900Million budgeted for Southern Province agriculture(corrected)

Government has budgeted about K900 Million for this year’s agriculture activities in Southern Province.

Out of the budget K100 Million is meant for Irrigation Development while K142 Million is meant for cattle restocking.

Speaking during the Provincial Planning and performance review meeting in Livingstone, Southern Province Permanent Secretary Gladys Kristafor said most of the activities would be funded through Provincial Administrative Unit.

Mrs. Kristafor said the implementation would be done in line with the Sixth National Development Plan.

Other projects to be undertaken include Meteorologica-Agriculture programmes, land alienation and distirbution of Farmers Input Support Programs(FISP).

Meanwhile Southern Province produced over 183 000metric tones of maize valued at K230 Million in the 2010-2011 farming season.

The Sixth National Development Plan places infrastructure Development in agriculture as a priority.

  1. I am wondering what that amount would do for 10 districts? Its basically about 90 million per district, let us be realistic please! Cattle restocking for only 142million are you serious? However we commend you for this plan except you need to increase the planned numbers

  2. #1 At least they are getting something other provinces like mine never get to be mentioned these days. We’ll teach RBish a lesson this year.

  3. WHY DO WE HAVE JOKERS LIKE THIS IN GOVERNMENT I HAD TO SOME CALCULATIONS 1METRIC TON = 1000 KG, THEREFORE, 183 METRIC TONS IS EQUAL TO 2000 X 90KGS I JUST CALLED MY UNCLE MR MWIIYA IN CHIKANTA CHOMA HIS FARM ALONE WILL PRODUCE 1800 BAGS OF MAIZE DONT LIE TO US CHECK YOUR FIGURES CORRECT I REMEMBER HAVING MADE 200 BAGS WHEN I WAS AT UNZA BY EXCHANGE BLANKETS WITH FARMERS, SO THIS A PURE JOKE AND A FARASS, STU.PIDY MMD LIERS

  4. SOUTHERN PROVINCE CAN NOT ONLY PRODUCE 183 METRIC TONS, ITS JUST AN AMOUNT ONE FARMER IN MABOMBO OR CHIKANTA CAN PRODUCE, GET REAL MMD

  5. Childish ffigures. Why ? Was this meant for one average commercial farmer? Last kicks of a dying horse.

  6. Everything in this story does not make any sense. This level of decadency is frightening. Even reporters have become parrots. Just write, no thinking required!

  7. Ama leaders ukusabaila sana in the election year. People would rather vote based on results and not promises, which you have been making for the past decades. After the elections you will come up with excuses about the recession and why you cant honor promises. Just get out of power already! Ouuuttt!!

  8. Fellow country men this is not time to complain but campaign. You have an oppotunity to see(real) change..through HH!

  9. Too little an amount for Msanza 4 sho. This amount is just enough for 3 commercial farmers and the reported output 2010/2011 is just from an equivalent number of farmers.
