United Party for National Development leader Hakainde Hichilema has said there is need for his party and its pact partners the Patriotic Front to agree on how they intend to develop the nation when voted into government before jostling for positions in the pact.

Mr. Hichilema told QFM news in an interview that the two political parties need to agree on governance issues and how they will work towards improving the living standards of the Zambians when in government.

Mr. Hichilema added that the two parties need to commit themselves to work on a constitution that will among other things address the 50 plus 1 and the presidential running mate clause.

He said the pact also needed to indicate that it will also work towards liberating the judiciary so as to improve the dispensation of justice in the country.

Mr. Hichilema noted that his party had written to its pact partner the PF on the need to convene and agree on all the pertinent issues affecting the nation.

And Mr. Hichilema has clarified that according to the memorandum of understanding signed when the pact was formed; the two political parties are free to campaign as single entities.

The opposition leader said the formation of the pact was based on issues of national interest and that its existence does not in any way take away the legitimacy of the individual political parties.

Mr. Hichilema added that despite a few misunderstandings the pact is still valid and hoped that the PF will respond in good time to UPND’s request for the two parties to meet and address issues affecting the pact.

He was reacting to media reports that the pact’s existence had vanished following the revelations that the two parties had embarked on separate campaign tours.

  1. How can you agree when one party has no economic plan, only a street hawker kaponya inspired plan passed in code at street gatharings completly devoid of any intelectual debate, while you UPND seem like you are for s.province only.

  2. Honestly it took four days for Britain to have a workable pact, which is still running smooth to this day. How long surely will it take for our opposition to come up with a workable pact. How complicated are the issues that these leaders are faced with. Pure greed and lack of heart for the citizenry, and people wonder why the MMD is gaining ground even in 2011. HH and Sata are not the solution for Zambia both have failed to exhibit selfless leadership. Our cry my beloved country…..

  3. The only person who seems to be worried about the pact is HH. Cant HH pliz see that the pact is a non starter? Mudala open your eyes! If he decides to go solo, definitely he is loosing, PF as well! Viva MMD…let the dead PF-UPND pact perish because of their selfish motives!

  4. PF and Sata were hoping for a popular uprising inspired by economic malise. They did not factor in High copper prises coupled with sound polices of RB which is driving the economic growth we are seeing, as must i refirm, agreed and assesed by all world renouned econmists. The Zambian electorate can only see economic devidents and no amount of Sata and the post lies will cover their eyes. PF is a thug party with no economic policy to develop zambia

  5. The Pact, being in existence for more than a year, how difficult is it to have a plan for Zambia and agree a common ground? And they claim to be the alternative to MMD??? It is clear that one is a willing party while the other is not. One has a plan, the other doesn’t have. It’s a pity the one that has, is in the minority. UPND should really reconsider their position as to why they are in the pact? If it is because they want MMD ousted because of corruption or lack of a development plan? Does the PF offer a better marriage on these lines other than the MMD or going it alone? Certainly UPND cannot form government on its own this year. They should make a decision on the basis, of what is best for the country and not what the mood of the country is. Zambia first!!!

  6. Shame on the critics..they danced the minute they heard that PF was pulling out of the Pact..but this is what we in the Pact do..let them keep guessing aba ba mambala

  7. Well spoken UPND. Lets see what PF has to say on the issues raised for the sake of our Nation. Yes, time is running out and petience is wearing thin.

  8. Viva pact, HH and Sata please people the all nation is jst looking up to you. Please please you should not put yo personal needs first before us zambians. The Rupiah regime admin are busy doing anything to distabilise the pact. Just look at the stories going round in the state controlled media to discredit this pact. HH work up mudal and Sat please we are behind you, come together and put convidence in us

  9. #4 Bushman.
The man needs to go to specsavers (kc take laugh at this, u know what I mean) if he can’t read the writing on the wall. I agree with you (Bushman) and #1 and #5 kc.

  10. Mpombo’s recent announcement that he would vie for the MMD presidency has sent shivers to State House. It is feared that the ” True Blues” would go in his favor. An impromptu statehouse meeting witnesseda 30% vote for Mphombo. ” RB has not been exposed to an election before.” said one of the present seasoned politician. He said Mphombo might just manage to divide the flock. The general feeling was that both the president and the vice would go an opposed. With Mulongoti’s ferocious ambition , the meeting suggested that there was an urgent need to harmonize the vice presidency.

  11. mwaona manje !!! muzakangiwa i told u the pact is intact these reporters have been paid to distabilise mwapyaVIVA PAKATI!!

  12. mwaona manje !!! muzakangiwa i told u the pact is intact these reporters have been paid to distabilise mwapya VIVA PAKATI!!

  13. It seems HH has beaten Sata & PF to the game of issue-based Politics & maturity.

HH has what it takes to be the Rep President. He manages to be calm in the midst of a storm. Will level minded Zambians rally behind this youngman!

  14. The pact nosense is there in the minds of people but when it comes to who should be president the pact disapears …why? Let me tell you guys, so long the UPND stick to their slogan that only HH should lead the pact , the pact is going no where. Let us not cheat ourselves. We have to face reality and humble ourselves as who should be pact president. If we cant agree let this pact nonsense die a natural death….we should not live in a fool’s pradise thinking all is well when all is in shambles.

What I know is that Sata and PF will never give the presidency to HH being a majority part going by the statistics. Given this fact , UPND will also not accept the viceship….meaning there is no pact guys. We are tiered of Insults let this pact nosense die now. FINITO.

  15. #14,

This what I am talking about, please just let the sleeping lion sleep. If the Pact means HH is president and the PF also think Pact is Sata, then forget about the pact. In every pact there is one who takes the presidency and the other from a smaller party takes the vice. Since PF and UPND are both bigger parties, means no one will accept the vice and this is where the pact dispears.

So dont waste your time talking about the pact, its like living in utopia. Just face reality guys….do you think Sata will let HH be president or do you think HH will let Sata be president…no no may in the world to come. On this one I am with senior citizen….there is no Pact unless there is humility and sincerity in the two parties, otherwise just forget about it.

  16. The upnd truely is an under five party…they ar busy criticising Sata at the same time they want to be in the PACT what nonsense is this…am sure they ar feelin it. already they havent done even provincial election but want presidence…educated party…lets watch the space wher kalusa will take u.

  17. Are these two useless parties just waiting for the other to be the one that formally announces that the PACT was DOA (Dead On Arrival). This thing was never going to work with a dictator like Sata involved. Any man who changes positions so frequently and emulates Mugabe is not a man for Zambia’s top job. Let’s just enjoy the few fruits of LPM’s work. Now if only RB would sack that rubbish Minister of Finance.

  18. This Old man Sata is the one failing the pact. he is forgetng that this is his Last time to contest Presidential elections. Why are africans so dull ,who has cheated him that he will win the 2011 as POOR FOOL(PF). anyway last kicks of an Old horse. More Mr Sata the people who suport you are not registered voters . Shame upon you old man . Let Kazimba advise you.

  19. And the United Party for National Development (UPND) has castigated Mr Sata for his conduct which they described as embarrassing and uncalled for.

UPND Livingstone district spokesperson Neto Halwabala said in a separate interview that Mr Sata’s conduct befits that of some political cadres.

Mr Halwabala said media houses should not be harassed as they have a duty to inform and educate members of the public on events across the country.

“Mr Sata’s conduct is a warning to Zambians that should he be voted into Government, certain institutions will be under threat,” he said.

  20. Following Dr. Mulenga & Moonga, another MMC dumps epileptic Sata

    Madyenkuku quits Patriotic Front

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) vice chairman for mobilisation Syacheye Madyenkuku has ditched the opposition political party.

But he did not immediately indicate if he was switching parties or supporting a particular party.

Mr Madyenkuku, who was a member of the PF’s central committee, said in a telephone interview on February 16 he has decided to resign from the PF to concentrate on personal matters and business

  21. This sounds so stupid. He makes requests for them to meet through statements in the press? And up to now they have not agreed on how to run the country? All he has to do is pick up the phone and call sata to meet and discuss.

  22. UPND Keep waiting, join the queue. The council is also still waiting for the two weeks council report. I hope somebody from Matero University can update us on why this Kaponya party has problems with dealing with the written word.

  23. Ba HH nabo.Kanshi kakoma apala imwe? This chap cant see that they are going nowhere with the ngwangwazi?wake up and join a pact with the zambian people as espoused by MMD.

  24. HH certainly means well. The problem is with PF. My advice to UPND is that if you dont agree on the governance framework, please, please, please HH & UPND dont get into the Pact with PF, it simply means they have no regard for leadership and management values. Without agree on governance framework PF/UPND Pact will be worse than the MMD becoz it will all the squables.

  25. HH and SATA PLEASE PEOPLE ARE BEHIND YOU PLEASE RESOLVE ALL THE ISSUES NOW SO THAT WE CAN CONCENTRATE ON CAMPAIGNING FOR THE PACT.PEOPLE ARE DESPERATE AND ARE LOSING PATIENCE WITH YOUR DELAYS IN CHOSING THE PACT PRESIDENT.PEOPLE ARE READY TO DELIVER VICTORY FOR THE PACT.VIVA PACT SHAME TO UNIP – RB AND MMD..

  26. While it is easy to understand HH’s frustration in dealing with his pact partner’s, he is equally to blame for the fragmentation the opposition parties have found themselves in.

The pact has in fact dwindled the peoples confidence in the opposition more than it could have been if the pact was not initiated. Fall-outs are to MMD’s gain.

  27. These attempts by HH to give credence to the pact existence are only helping to reveal how far from reality HH is.

His misgivings about PF’s commitment are more apparent than he would agree. How long will he have to wait for a response for his hand delivered proposal from PF?

  28. zambia is not looking at sata or HH these two bums are very irrelevant together with their followers. We are looking at 2016 and after thats our concern but knowing God loves us he will give us a good leader but not HH or sata

  29. sata has been rejected three times and HH twice and the guys still want to stand for what do they think zambians will have a change of heart, hell no. If anything those who doubted RB have now seen how this old guy can work. I voted for HH but this time around my vote goes to rupiah bwezani banda wapika nsima lelo.

  30. HH is doing the right thing..only myopic chaps would condemn him for making those demands coz issues have to be tabled and resolved b4 u form govt..pf is a gong’a..

  31. HH, you should have remained @ Grant Thornton where at least you could put your talents to good use. Alas, your tribalism and vanity made you think you could conquer the political spectrum? You’re a political failure and no wonder even kaponya’s like Sata have no shred of respect for you.

  32. The reality is that both HH and SATA know very very well that going against MMD solo would be pointless , they are not STUP!D trust me .
The pact is there to stay , however the problems will arise when the pact is Government and how then they share the power .
Coz we know all too well that the president can wake up one morning and decide to reshuffle cabinet and exclude the majority of the PACT members.
That is truly the major concern .
Winning the elections as a pact is the only sure way MMD will be pushed out .. MMD knows that and so does HH AND SATA …. the only way.
THIS FOR SURE WILL HAPPEND WETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT MMD IS DONE .

  33. Mike Mulongoti says he is better than Vice-President George Kunda and has challenged him and others to a public debate to prove who the best candidate is for the MMD vice-presidency.

LIKE I SAID MMD IS DONE ……. IT WILL IMPLODE. THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF MMD

Watch the infighting escalate . And soon they will be mass defecting once the date for elections is announced …. Right now the MMD thugs are buddy stock piling there money in funny places and not banks coz once they defect they do not want to be last minute victims of soon to be embattled RB

  34. BREAKING NEWS!!!! – from HOT FM

THE PACT HAVE SETTLED ON SATA TO BE THE PACT PRESIDENT AND HH AS THE VICE PRESIDENT……ISN’T THIS INTERESTING?

  35. Ba HH twalumba kabotu for the way you are addressing the aggression and hostility from the public media who have embarked on a campaign of misinformation about the PACT.

Ala ba HH mwabomba sana, for you maturity.

Daily Mail and Times of Zambia you have now convinced me that the MMD have to be voted out because you are not reporting fairly when you are suppose to!!!!

  36. SATA ditched the pact a long time ago when it became apparent that Copperbelt registered over 700,000 voters. His thinking is that the over 700,000 voters will automatically vote for him, in his wild mind he has already won the elections. It exposes this man that he cannot be trusted. Pleaaaaaaaase put your vote on HH, those of us who will travel to vote please let’s do that and let’s advise our relations that HH seems to have their desires at heart. THE PACT WAS CALLED BY ZEDIANS, SATA WALKD OUT ON ZAMBIANS” DEMANDS. ZAMBIANS HAVE TO WALK OUT ON HIM TOO

  37. PF is being cheated tht he can win the elections alone.Sata shud be more wise to deduce tht ths cud be his last chance (age is not on his side).he will only cry foul and appreciate upnd wen he loses.anyway, who needs tht pact after all??? chwe chwe chweeeeeeee

  38. We the GOD Fearing Zambians should remember that we have a chance to redeem our country from these blood thirst MMD politicians whoseonly concern is their Greed.Remember all these discussions and comments are about the Change and the Pact lets stick together. An SMS to a friend to change the government at elections isall we need. This is arevolution our enemy is corruption and the MMD that Tolerates it.

  39. I have had a chance of traveling in all provinces and in some remote areas of our beloved country. I feel like crying when I see the poverty, hunger and hopelessness in the eyes of the people. When I look at the political situation, all I see are insults, name calling, character assassination, hate messages from Chimba, the post, times of zambia, daily mail, television and radio stations. I feel out of place because these are not solutions to what the people want. I have resolved pray for our nation and look to God and desire that HIS and only HIS WILL BE DONE. I do not mind if SATA, HH or RB becomes president as long as something will be done to improve the lives of our brothers and sister.
