No burial space in Lusaka

Lusaka City Council Public Relations Manager Chanda Makanta has urged the central government to assist the Council in securing burial land.

Mrs Makanta says Leopard Hill’s Cemetery is running out of burial space.

She said this in an interview with ZNBC news , Friday.

Mrs Makanta added that the council is in the process of acquiring land in FOXDALE but could not state the exact period.

She said this in response to growing concerns over the lack of burial space in Lusaka.

  1. There is plenty of burial space at Leopards Hill memorial and Mutumbi remembrance parks.

  2. This is why Zambians should think about cremation as an alternative to burying. It is more environmentally friendly and uses less space.

  3. Plot 1 State House is a good site. Since nothing worthy is done at that site might as well be a burial ground.

  4. Alternatively,
Groups of communities should have their own cemeteries, unlike where every burial must either be at Leopard Hill or Chingwele.

Lusaka, for example could be divided so that there are north, south, western and east blocks with their respective cemeteries.

  5. # 5 you haven’t understood # 3 point. please read and have the difference btn yo Mass grave/s and Cremation.

  6. I did understand. I just added ‘massive graves’. May be you do not even know what the term means.

  7. In a country where probably 75% of the land is still untouched , how is it possible that you can run out of space? Theres a lot of land around lusaka thats still available.Lsk city council has a small city mentality and doesn’t look at the bigger picture of how a city will grow outwards

  8. Headline should have read “Burial space at new leopards Hill Cemetery is running out”
