Imposing statutory media regulation will be worst disaster-Shikapwasha

Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha says it will be the worst disaster for government to impose statutory media regulation.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha says government wants the media to come up with a credible self regulatory mechanism that will answer to the needs of the Zambian people.

He says there is need for the media to come up with a self regulatory mechanism that would provide for a body that will be able to censure erring media houses and whose decisions should be respected by all media organizations.

General Shikapwasha says government is not bent on imposing statutory media regulation as perceived in some quarters.

Speaking when he featured on QFM’s the Public’s Last Say last evening Lieutenant General Shikapwasha says to the contrary government wants the media to have a credible self regulatory mechanism that will provide for checks and balances and comfort for all Zambians.

  1. I want to say what #1 said but like 2 3 4 I think this is suspicious. That aside there are already Self regulatory mechanisms at Daily Mail Times and Znbc. I worked there so I know These are 1 Never report anything that President Banda doesn’t like
2 Don’t report anything good about the opposition
3 Anything baad about the opposition must be published even if its just a rumour. Disobeying these rules means u are fiired

  2. What media regulation is this guy called shikapwasha talking about when u as MMD have abused ZNBC.Dont tel us what to do.Regulate ZNBC FIRST to be reporting fairly and truthfully. You think 35 minutes of MMD fighting SATA on every ZNBC 19hrs news is good—-No! You shikapwasha and your fellow MMD have abused ZNBC.Dont even bring these media regulations.the media is self regulatory.
I agree with you Leornard.I know you and we have worked together before and we have stayed together in UNZA before.MMD we also know what is going on at ZNBC where the news room is not independent.Sometimes you can wish death to some people with this rubbish going on??
