A ZNBC news crew was Sunday afternoon whisked away from a Patriotic Front-PF supporters’ attempted attack after the party’s public political meeting in Lusaka in Mandevu.
The ZNBC Reporter and Cameraman were rescued by the Patriotic Front party security.
The PF supporters accused the ZNBC news crew of filming for freelance Chanda Chimba the third’s “Stand Up for Zambia” Television programme.
They also warned that they would ensure that the ZNBC news crew does not the leave arena.
The PF supporters removed the ZNBC microphone from the podium where the party officials were addressing the public rally.
PF officials later removed the shield, which had a ZNBC label and put the microphone at the podium.
Meanwhile two people who include a fifteen year old boy of Lusaka’s Kanyama compound are nursing serious wounds after they were allegedly shot and wounded by PF caders over the weekend.
The incident followed the fracas that happened at garden house motel were PF and MMD carders clashed.
Kanyama MMD Constituency chairman Loyd Kaseba confirmed the attack in which 16 year old Keegan Mofya sustained gun shots wounds.
And Keegan’s mother Queen Mofya has appealed for justice to prevail in her son’s shooting incident.
Mr. Kaseba also says 25 year old Charles Banda was brutally beaten by the alleged PF cadres.
He was speaking with ZNBC News in Lusaka.
And MMD Provincial vice Youth Chairman Whatson Mtonga has called on police to investigate the alleged shooting and bring the culprits to book.
Police Spokesperson Ndandula Siamana said police have not received a report over the alleged shooting incident.

can someone please tell me what the MMD cadres where doing in the GardenHouse vicinity in the first place?
What were he MMD twats doing when they actually knew PF was going to have conference at that particular place and time??ZNBC are useless conduits of MMD propaganda,so why should they cover the PF conference?after all they might even twist the stories.Let them wait to cover the MMD convention.Shame how poverty can cause a 16 year old boy to get involved in such useless duels. If this is anything to go buy, panji’s prophecy is about to come to pass.
This level of desperation for power is dangerous! The President should show leadership by ensuring that peace prevails. The Police must deal with any form of violence ruthlessly regardless of who is involved. Why allow thugs to be disturbing peace in the name of the ruling party!
no mater what propaganda you will bring against PF and Sata MMD kuyabebele.
I, myself, feel a great urge to spank the ZNBC people. Look, people, ZNBC is a public media house surviving on public money – including that infamous tv levy! And yet, they f.o.o.lishily insist on disseminating to the nation biased garbarge as “news”!
The civility of the PF officials who protected that “news” crew is to be commended.
The conduct of our state owned media leaves much to be desired. The cause of bad things happening in our country is because of our weak constitution. These guys only cover what suits them, is this democracy indeed? Give every political player a platform to air his or her views without fear or favour. Private media institutions are doing much better, the only problem is that most of them are only based in Lusaka. Let us put all our Television and Radio stations on satellite so that people can have access to information as it is vital to national development.
Just like the Post covers whats suites PF so the the only part with brains is UPND period. whether you like it or not us with the majority of well meaning Zambians not Kaponyas of course will vote for UPND a party for the future….abash Chinjoka chikulu Satan the cobra….waiting to bite people on their bottoms. Do not say you were not warned.
Am shocked to learn that PF Talking point is an in law to Sata….very amazing.
Micheal Sata was involved in using pangas during Chiluba government to where he was in command and a lot of innocent Zambians were injured badly.Among then is a young man called Chitalu who had his left ear cut of completely. He will soon go out in the media to show people what Sata can do to innocent Zambians when in power.
The opposition have cried many times that ZNBC is favouring the MMD and does not cover them. I honestly think that they should praise ZNBC for going to the rally and cover the PF. Afterall this is what they have been crying for(coverage). Pipo have different views on issues and not all of us are supporters and are interested in Sata. ZNBC should therefore not be crusified for airing Chanda Chimba iii, who has views different from PF supporters. If the PF has issues with the truth of the content of what Chanda Chimba iii reports, they are free to sue the guy. PF bloggers please pass a motion with your party authorities to sue Chanda Chimba and leave ZNBC out of it.
LusakaTimes has turned into government propaganda machine just like ZNBC & Zambia Dailymail. Remember it is easy to shutdown this cheap Online news. Whoever funding you will withdraw their money you are misusing.
It is regrettable that innocent people got injured when MMD beat up PF members in unprovoked attack. There president justifies the attack and now they want justice to prevail.
What kind of garbage is this?
We need to start thinking seriously, what kind of Zambia do we want for ourselves, our children and their children?
Did MMD supporters expect PF members just stand by and watch the onslaught like sheep going for slaughter? When are we going to start applying the laws fairly?
#2 & #3
MMD members are free to go to any place of their choice. They may have been having a drink or waiting for the chelsea vs mancity game.Mind you PF did not book the whole hotel.
MMD holigans lead by one William Banda a deportee in the Chilua regime is to blame for all this.
ZNBC DONT COVER PF WE DONT NEED YOUR SERVICES.
COVER CHIFWEKELO AND MMD
GO TO HELL WITH YOUR PROPAGANDA.
VIVA PABWATO COME 2011.
#: ZNBC went there to just rubbish the conference. Just look at the clip on 19hrs news, they did not even show the injured PF supporters but were quick to point at PF as having caused the violence.ZNBC agenda for going there was to rubbish the conference, period!
stupid part PF and postnews paper when their reporter was almost attacked by UPND they cried ba post but when ZNBC covers PF they say why did they go there remember post talks only ill of HH and RB,what type of a country is this?????PF you are more rubbish than ever, your plans are evil you dont mean well to this country like your minios post
#6 Mungomba In Zambia the State owns more and larger media than the private sector. That’s not in keeping with the tenets of Democracy. Which democracy owns media? When u see a government intent upon owning so much media rest assured they don’t want democracy They want to control what is communicated to the public. Even the PF when they take over will continue doing the same. Parties must give us a manifesto saying they will free the media. We the public must protest because govt uses our money to oppress us.
pabwatoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Bloggers,
it’s saddening to see people justifying violence as it begets violence. In any form violence must be abhored regardless of the perpetrators. my questions are; i indid PF provoked MMD cadres by pulling down the flag. how did the organise themselves so fast with all the weaponry they exhibited? why did the police allow MMD cadres to pitch a tent near Garden house when they knew PF was holding its conference? can PF/UPND/HP pitch a tent a mulungushi university next week when MMD will be holding its convention in Kabwe? someone please answer these questions and stop shedding inocent blood either MMD or PF we are all Zambians period!
number 8 think before you comment how can you compare public media to private do you pay tax to run post? znbc is it duty because it uses our money for dont’ compare
I feel sorry for ZNBC. Been made to sub-class journalists. You make a bad history for our children to swear on in future, Disgrace on the so call public media.
Did ZNBC say, “The ZNBC Reporter and Cameraman were rescued by the Patriotic Front party security?”
If PF has the “Patriotic Front party security” that is able to rescue a ZNBC staff then they are a well organised and good party that ensure safety for every one.
This is different from the MMD party, because the very MMD security team, get involved in the attack against journalists and call themselves MILITIAS.
Which one of our pathetic political parties has a manifesto that mentions freedom of speech and the fact that the State should not own media? Which one can commit to selling Daily Mail and Times and ZNBC to the private sector? Which one of our political parties knows that the job of a Special Assistant for Press to the President is not to go around bossing and bullying State-owned media but to advise the President on how to influence the media one way or another? The answer to these questions will be the Democratic party we have sought since 1991.
MMD has been conducting provincial conferences without any interference from the opposition, why did the MMD members want to see and hear from where PF was conducting its Provincial conference! People lets be fair the way we pass comments. MMD mwafula trouble shooters like William Banda. MMD caused that confussion on Saturday.
They should have at least been clobbered first even for 10 minutes at least before been rescued, just to teach them a lesson not to take people for granted.
I feel violence should be condemned whichever party is wrong in perpetuating this. As for the media, I think they are very consistent with what they do.Becoz its obvious that State media will support the govt of the day, while the private media like the Post will hammer govt left right and centre. Let us not forget that Mr Sata was a beneficiary to state media those years he served as no. 3 in the land. I think the ZNBC archives have a lot on Mr Sata using State media as propaganda tool to enhance the ruling party he belonged to back then, the MMD, to, for instance, propel the 3rd term bid for his former ally Chiluba. And i bet when he comes to power, he will still use State media as they will definitely part company with the private media which will turn against him. Wait and see.
We all need somebody to lean on. When you are dismissed from govt, you will need the Post to lean on. when you want to make a countrywide statement, you will need the State media to lean on. Just look at how quick Wynter Kabimba rushed to State media (which he despises) when he went to announce the perceived agreement of electoral pact with UPND when they mistook Prof. Clive Chirwa’s proposal to be the official position of UPND.Or when Mpombo was an MMD senior cabinet minister, he relied on govt media when he used to be lambasted by the Post. when he quit Govt, he became buddies with the Post, just like Mulongoti, Shakafuswa, Mr Sata himself. the list is endless. Bottom line? we all need each other in one way or another.
