Role models essential to Zambian youths-First Lady

First Lady Thandiwe Banda (l)

First Lady Thandiwe Banda says positive role models are essential to the growth and education of Zambian youths.

Mrs. Banda said empowering youths of today is building foundation of the country’s future.

Speaking at the Mentors Luncheon organised by Kuchetekela Foundation in Lusaka today, Mrs. Banda noted that mentoring is being a role model for a child and urged mentors to display highest moral standards.

ZANIS reports that She said Mentors should possess virtues of integrity and decency for them to differentiate between right and wrong.

The First Lady further noted that Government has already done its party in contributing to the education of children by constructing 87 more new schools countrywide as well as training more than 2 000 teachers.

And one of the parents Clement Mumba thanked Kuchetekela Foundation for the initiative and noted that mentors play an important role and that this can not be taken away from them.

  1. EDUCATION IS ONLY FOR THE ELITE AS AT NOW IN ZAMBIA. TRAINED TEACHERS ARE NO EMPLOYED,YET, SHE SAYS GOVT HAS ALREADY DONE IT’S PART, SURELY??????
THE LISTENING GOVT IS COMING THIS YEAR.
VOTE MICHAEL CHILUFYA SATA AND PF COME 2011.
BEWARE TRIBAL PARTIES THAT JUST SPLIT THE VOTES.
PA BWATOOO MWAMUKOLO ON THE BOAT FOR CHANGE.

  2. Unfortunately those in plot one cannot provide guidance positively but corruption,, where can Zambia go no where if plot one is not upright the whole nation is in problems.

  3. Thandiwe. Stop talking about role models. You and your husband could never be anyone’s role models. You are a thief who draws a govt salary as a teacher when you are not teaching anymore. Your husband is a dictator and a cradle robber.

  4. Fellows, political differences aside, the First Lady has talked about an important subject. Role models, virtues and the importance of mentoring our children , colleagues in offices, church goers and many others. Let us be objective and if don’t like any political figures, just keep quiet, if nothing positive to contribute.

  5. zambia faces 2 basiic problems.
    1. runni an education system potted from african education. the same does not activate a domant innate creative ‘compass’ in the mind. hence the so called educated are only capable of undertaking routine activities.
    2. adapted a political system which places controll of national resouces in wrong hands
now the above cannote allow us to break away from third world status and hence dependence. otherwise most of the rubish we are bombarded with would not get us to make wrong choices.
given tribal inclinations we are trapped in a ditch of innability very long.

  6. Charity begins at home which is not the case with our leaders as role models so let Thandiwe go and eat some greasy KFC chicken instead
