Pressure On Rangers, Caution For Coasting Zesco

Zesco United and Nchanga Rangers on Saturday head into their respective Caf club cup return leg deciders with contrasting targets.

In the Caf Champions League, Zesco enjoy a 5-0 first round, first leg lead over Young Buffaloes of Swaziland whom they face on Saturday evening in an 18:00 kickoff in Manzini.

At Nchanga Stadium in Chingola tomorrow afternoon, Rangers host DR Congo side Lupopo in a match the home side desperately need to win by two unanswered goals.

Both matches come on the back of last weekend’s eurphoria after the Zambia and Under-23 teams both won by 2-0 their 2012 Africa Cup and Olympic Games qualifying matches against Mozambique and Rwanda respectively.

“Definitely it is a morale booster and we also have to keep winning,” Zesco coach Fighton Simukonda said prior to departure for Swaziland on Wednesday.

A defeat by four unanswered goals will still be enough for Zesco to go through to the second round to face winner between Al Ahly of Egypt and SuperSport United of South Africa.

Al Ahly travel to South Africa to face SuperSport in Polokwane enjoying a 2-0 lead from the first leg.

However, Rangers need to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg played in Lubumbashi a fortnight ago in the Caf Confederation Cup first round, return leg game.

Failure for Rangers will see them exit just after two matches played by them in their first Caf club excursion since 2000 when they reached the quarterfinals of the defunct CAF Cup.

  1. Zesco are safe its Nchanga who have to prevent an early exit pliz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I doubt if Nchanga Rangers will beat Lupopo in their return game. For Zesco there is no way Young Baffoloes will make it. The match is just a formality. Zesco Team Ya ZIKO YALI WINA BIG. Fightton keep on with the fighting team spirit.
