RB opens MMD convention

Share

President Rupiah Banda officially opened the MMD National convention at the Mulungushi Rock of Authority, in Kabwe today, with a call to members to demonstrate the party’s democracy and unity.

The official opening which was characterised by colorful dances from various artists was attended by former presidents Kenneth Kaunda and Frederick Chiluba among other several invited delegates.

The president called on the delegates to elect credible people to the Party’s national executive committee.

The president said the elections should be held in a peaceful and dignified manner.

The president said that the country goes to the polls this year and the MMD as a democratic party should hold its internal elections in a transparent and fair manner.

Meanwhile, President Banda has warned that the party will not hesitate to disqualify or discipline any party member who will misbehave by not following party regulations.

The president has reiterated his call for none violence. He said the party will deal sternly with any party member who will be found advocating violence.

President Banda called on MMD members to take the lead in conducting peaceful campaigns ahead of this year’s tripartite elections.

Mr Banda said that party members should not engage in violent activities as the country goes to the polls later this year. Mr Banda said that MMD members should ensure that economic gains recorded over the years are not lost.

The President was also hopeful that opposition political parties will encourage their members to advocate peaceful campaigns.

And President Band said that government is keen to create more employment for Zambians. He also emphasized that government is concerned about the welfare of women and will ensure their representation in leadership is increased.

Mr Banda explained that Zambia would have had 30 more women parliamentarians had the constitution Bill passed successfully in parliament.

Earlier, MMD National Chairman Michael Mabenga called on party members to use the convention to re-energise the ruling party ahead of this year’s tripartite elections.

  1. Why do people wear fitenges How backwards is that a piece of cloth on you

    I would never wear chitenge

    Skirts shirts , dresses YES

Some zambian dresses is appaling to say the least

    Thanks

  2. In zambia people are suffering, we need someone to liberate them

If zambia would consider allowing the foreign entourage from contesting these elections, I would ask my fiance to, I think as a country we are suffering, no life, no goals, no hope, limited education, embarrasing

I would love to see Rupiah Banda be the president again, not because he is a good choice, but rather because he is the best of the rest

  3. That aint no convention, thats just a party meeting to endorse yourselves. No NEC position is being competed for, everybody is just defending this & that from nobody, its a circus.MMD inasila

  4. #123 Mushota – I read on UK Zambians that you are the one who eloped with the Polish priest? Is it true? If its true, you go girl get your man!

Anyway MMD – Last convention in power

  5. I wish this man behaved the way he talked! How can he of all people condemn violence when he can’t condemn William Banda? William Banda is violence and violence is William Banda. I honestly but regrettably think that this president is a slow learner, and does not inspire national confidence. He defends Chinese who shoot people during day light, and here he wants to act like a fair man who loves justice? You can fool some people some time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.

  6. So KK is an MMD member or sympathiser, why did he attend a party convention if he is not one of them? The old man does not know what is right or wrong at the moment.

  7. mushota uli chisushi sana iwe we mpombo ewe we don’t care for these mmd swi ne all we want is change and this year change will be in

  8. @ #3 Mushota, please we don’t want to hear any piece of your crap.be constructive.try writing things that are solid and benefiting to readers.

  11. Sichinga advises the Government to step aside
An Economic consultant Bob Sichinga has called on the MMD government to consider stepping aside for failure to accord the Zambian people a Constitution that will stand a test of time.
Featuring on today’s let the people talk programme on radio phoenix, Mr. Sichinga says the inability by Parliament to acquire a two thirds majority for the Constitution amendment bill of 2010 to pass through to the second reading stage clearly shows that the constitution making process was an exercise in futility.

  12. He has accused the MMD government of having manipulated the whole process from the beginning to push for provisions that would favor them.
Mr. Sichinga has also questioned why the opposition United Party for National development (UPND) Parliamentarians continued to take part in the NCC deliberations when they were fully aware that calls they were championing would not yield positive results.
The economic consultant has since called on voters in the country to vote out the ruling MMD from power ahead of this year%u2019s tripartite elections.

  13. And speaking on the same platform, former Church of God overseer Bishop John Mambo has called on delegates who participated in the NCC to apologize to Zambians for discarding their wishes in the Mung’omba draft Constitution.
Bishop Mambo says the NCC was a non starter as it was an attempt by MMD to undermine a people’s driven constitution making process.
He adds that it is unfortunate that huge sums of tax payers’ money has been wasted.

  14. Gbagbo is sheltering in a bunker while his deputies negotiate his depature. One wonders why he didnt just give up in the first place. You cannot defeat people’s power. So Veteran and Co play a fair game in 2011. If you are to win win without INTERNATIONAL TRICKS. If you are to lose lose without utunkofyonkofyo.

  15. And UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma has clarified that his party was not requesting for a coalition government with the ruling MMD and has maintained that UPND’s participation in the NCC was in the interest of Zambians.
Mr. Kakoma has however accused the MMD of pushing an agenda to form an alliance with his party stating that MMD leaders have been talking through traditional rulers to press for this cause.
Meanwhile, National Restoration Party (NAREP) President Elias Chipimo Junior has observed that the failure by parliament to amend the constitutional bill is a clear indication that there was never real political will by the MMD administration to develop a constitution that would reflect the legitimate aspirations of the Zambian people.

  16. Mr. Chipimo wondered why the same members of parliament unanimously voted for the amendment of the presidential emolument act and failed to heed to people’s submissions in the mung’omba draft.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Chipimo says it is unfortunate that Zambia in its 47 years of independence has failed to draft a people-driven constitution that will stand a taste of time.
Mr. Chipimo Junior says the whole NCC process was a waste of time and resources that would have been diverted towards addressing several challenges being faced by society

  17. Serious misuse of the word “convention”. What was this so-called convention all about;just to rubber stamp those chosen by RB or what? African politics nimatuvi chabe$^%^&*($££”. Its like bazungu will always be better than us. We were cursed by God whether we like it or not. Just have to pray for the next life otherwise iyi tinaitaya kudala whether we like it or not. It will never be dawn in Zambia. We shall continue living in the dark. Pepani!!!!

  18. #14 john phiri- Upnd went to the NCC for two things 1) The Degree Clause, 2) The 50 + 1 Clause. If one of these had gone through, they were not going to block the 3rd reading. Why? 1) Would have blocked Sata and give chance to HH to lead the PACT 2) They hoped if MMD won with less than 50+1, MMD was going to offer them a power sharing chance in the event of run off. None of these worked so the ditched the Pact and frustrated Parliament.

  19. Ifwe ni pabwato. 5 solid years under Rupiah and William Banda no no no
    Viva wind of change.
    Sata and PF 2011.

  20. PF cadres, learn to be clear with yourself about what you say publicly, if you are recorded you may be forced to do an embarrassing about turn. So what are you saying?

  21. 23rd March 2010
Minister Kaingu said “Definitely it’s not acceptable! I mean we serve one man and we must have total allegiance. So if there are such ministers, deputy ministers or NEC members, they are not doing the right thing…You know what? Even a dog has got allegiance to its owner. So we must have total allegiance to the President. We must give him as much support as we can.”

  22. #24
Now i ask ” Who let the dogs out (woof, woof, woof, woof) (woof , woof, woof, woof) (woof, woof, woof, woof) (woof, woof, woof, woof)

  23. Can hunger can drive a man to wear the face of another man?A man who puts on a face of another man is not onlyhungry but foolish.Wearing ifitenge with RB face printed on them is foolish and childish.Lets remove this selfish goverment and create real jobs for people. We are embarassing ourselves to the rest of the world.Hipocrits, bamuselela kwakaba, bapompwe bamunshibilansala.Mwatuchusha pafula!

  24. Zambian has no Leadership under whatsoever How can KK go to the convention of MMD the party that insulted him and belittled him in manys ways possible. The answer is that Kaunda is eating well and What? support the Rubbish of this medicre President. Also this is pure UNIP in the name of MMD look at what this Guy William Banda’s behaviour its pathetic Kaunda is the Man who is suppose to be speaking for the country and the people of Zambia Like what his son is doing. Not neccessary supporting Sata but standing up for real issues but is been bought and a follower of MMD shame on the father of Nation. As for Chiluba we know that he just want to save his stinking corrupt ass. Zambians we must see beyond these suckers and change this mediocre President for the seek of our future and our…

  25. IT is shame for Dr Kaunda to go to the convention of MMD. This is the Party that insulted him and belittled him in a lot of ways. KK is the man to be talking for the country, but why because is eating well. The other scenario is that this is UNIP in the name of MMD look at William Banda and this mediocre President its a shame on the father of the Nation. He is the man to be standing up for the country on many issues, but he is been bought. For chiluba we know he wants to protect is stinking corruption, unbelievable.

  26. We are going back to the UNIP day. Its the animal farm situation. Very soon RB will propose that the MMD changes its name to UNIP because it was just a splinter group of UNIP. Surely, Kaunda attending the MMD convetion with Chiluba??????? We are leaving in the last days.

  27. Rupiah has always shielded his violent thugs whenever they carry out their criminal acts.

This is the first time that rupiah has said a word against his criminal supporters.

However it remains to be seen if rupiah’s statement on his violent MMD thugs will be matched with action.

  28. #1,2,3. Mushota. What a load of rubbish, wafuma kwisa iwewine kanshi, Mumbwa? Where in Scotland do you live, Ferguslie Park in Paisley? Your lack of humility and umuchinshi certainly show just how Mumbwa you still are even when you live in a developed country-utterly primitive! Your contribution to serious issues are irrelevant to the topic!

Woosa…back to the matter at hand.

RB and your dweebs, let the Laurent Gbagbo situation in Ivory Coast be a warning to you that the Zambian people will not endure anymore of your hypocrisy and corruption. The time for political and economic change has come for Zambia; come October and you are out!

  29. ba kk hated MMD at some point in the past. ba kk was removed from power by the MMD. ba kk has always been saying chiluba, the then president of the MMD and zambia killed his son, wezi and that he would never 4get chiluba, only will. Ba kaunda tried to bring sata and hh together to remove MMD from power. nga lero, ba kaunda bafuna chani ku MMd convention? Awe sure mwandi

  30. ……but honestly speaking, ife ma Zambians will continue crying.we kicked kaunda out of power in 1991, accusing him of all sorts of things. chiluba came and stole our money….we cried Ba mwanawasa came, and we didnt like him so much until towards his death, we are crying. RB is in power not performing to our expectation, we are crying. and now alot of Zambians talk of change and pansi pamitima yao bakamba ati sata shud come in office – the dounchi kubeba slogan – . i see ourselves crying again, should in an unlikelikely event sata takes office.

Imwe sata is not a person you entrust. Dont experiment with leader. Pipo are suffering in some countries due to bad leaders like sata. Just look next door in zim. lets contiue with RB after 2011 and then as Zambians we identify a young good lid

  31. Why do people string up words to make sound bites that are parroted over and over again? It is naff.
‘Legitimate aspirations of the people,’ ‘sustainable development,’ ‘build capacity,’ and now ‘constitution that will stand the test of time!’ It is so annoying because of lack of originality. Where in the world is there a constitution that ‘has stood the test of time?’ The UK does not have a written constitution but goes on ok. The US constitution has had several ammendments, intepretations and re-intepretations. There is nothing that humans can create that ‘stands the test of time.’ Let’s stop parroting.

  32. KK has shown his lack of principle once again. No wonder he messed up our economy by supporting liberation movements which have been of no benfit to Zambia. We are in this mess because of him. Useless thread of leaders. Shows how desperate our leadership bank is. There is nothing worth talking about concerning th MMD convention, just a pack of hyenas salivating for the next kill by whatever means.

  33. ndaba kukamba zoona, 1. we know that things r bad in zambia. 2 we kno that RB is not doing things well and we know that sata can not make a good president. 3. we know that at the moment, we dont have a good alternative leaders. now y bring in a very wrong person. they are good lidders out bena milupi, patrick chisanga – formerly UPND, Miyanda, mutati, magande, these are pipo we can say let them take over. sure sure, you mean we can’t call for such a unity, lets b honest with ourselves, nakambako che ine

  34. New Democratic MMD almost all positions are unoppossed veep position scrapped to allow smooth entry for HH after he makes sure that Sata does not win as he has always delivered in this discipline am heading to Limulunga my battery is low for my Laptop….

  35. hey mushota welcome back!!!,,,,,, missed your comments. i was starved of irritation and annoyance for close to 2 months now. never you do that again girl!

  36. Maureen mwanawasa has the democratic rite to associate and be found with whoever she want to, but to behave in the manner she did at the mmd convention tells a big story about her.

  37. Lt your moderation of my comments is suspicious and personal. It takes so long for you to demoderate my comment sometimes long after the story has been removed. I also get response that this comment is duplicated or been posted earlier, how!?

  38. Back to UNIP. White hand clothes, same songs, same campaing slogans (modified nafuchu, nafuchi, nafuchi), KK back to his rock. Interesting

  39. #40 u are right !!! Thats my dream team as well not these KAPONYAS. But how do we tell them this is their time?

  40. Ndeketeya is speaking a lot of sense, that is exactly how i feel and i think that is the correct picture on the ground

  41. # 46, ZAMBIA YESU…….SAME VENUE, THE SO CALLED MULUNGUSH ROCK OF AUTHORITY…..BUT NEW VERSION OF DEMOCRACY, THE BWEZI STYLE……..

  42. THIS IS AN OBSCENE SHOW AND CIRCUS OF THE YEAR. FULL OF SHAMELESS HE-CLOWNS AND SHE-CLOWNS FOOLING THEMSELVES LIKE INSANE BABOONS. THEY SING DEMOCRACY BUT PRACTICE ITS EXACT OPPOSITE (DICTATORSHIP) THROUGH EXPELSION OF EVERY REAL OR IMAGINED OPPONENT). THIS MANIPULATION IS THE HEIGHT OF COWARDICE. DEMOCRACY MEANS BEING PREPARED TO COMPETE AND NOT COWARDLY AVOIDING ANY CHALLENGE.

  43. Then Mr Hakainde said, ‘yes, I will give you Kapita but then I will resign and when I resign UPND is gone. I am UPND; UPND is me. Even if you come with AK 47s, I will be the last Tonga standing here. I know I am going to stand; I know I am going to lose. But I will make sure Sata does not win’,” revealed Col Panji.

  44. “Then Mr Hakainde said, ‘yes, I know, because I am Tonga, you guys don’t want me to be president. Everybody who is calling in is saying that I must be vice-president. Do you think us Tongas cannot be presidents? Even Ng’andu Magande that was why he was not made MMD president because he is Tonga. Late Mazoka’s victory was stolen from him because he was Tonga’,” Col Panji revealed. “Then I said, ‘No Mr president, Andy Mazoka was Tonga, the people of Zambia voted for him in large numbers. You, when you were UDA president you were Tonga, we voted for you. It’s not about being Tonga. We are saying that if you go in as individual parties, you will lose.’ Then Mr Hakainde said: ‘Do you guys support Sata? Do you think he is normal?’”

Col Panji further revealed when he and Zulu suggested…
