Government has summoned Shoprite management following reports that the chain store has allegedly issued letters of suspension and gross misconduct to some union officials and workers who participated in the recent countrywide strike.
This is according to Labour Deputy Minister Simon Kachimba.
Mr Kachimba told ZNBC News in Lusaka on Sunday that the meeting is scheduled for nine hours tomorrow.
The meeting will aim to iron out the differences between Shoprite management and the Union.
And ZCTU President Leonard Hikaumba says the decision to summon Shoprite management and the union is welcome.
Mr Hikaumba says ZCTU wants to ensure the matter is resolved amicably.
Last week, ZCTU issued an ultimatum to Shoprite Management to immediately withdraw letters written to some union officials and workers or face countrywide strikes.

Isn’t this kachimba chap the one who was blasting the locals for scaring away investors? What has changed?
Shoprite are making tons of cash!!!! Who do they think they are? Â They think they can carry on paying peanuts and get away with it. The union should hold another strike to show those GREEDY ba****ds they can’t do without the local people.
election years are the best times to go on strike.
shoprite can afford to pay better wages
thank you zctuÂ
Ba shoprite akaso kalichilamo!
shoprite can just pack and go there other investors waiting fo the opportunity to take their place they shouldnt behave like we need them more than they need us. get out!!!!!!!
Shoprite can pack and go !
Kachimba you are a sell-out and people like you should not be anywhere near power!
Mmmmmm Hikaumba does he even have the moral right to comment on workers plight. This many is so irrelevant to the workers plight.
Its okay that at last the government is realising their role in protecting the rights of employees but its too late. We need a new start other wise they will easily back out immediatly they are given another chance and concentrate on their warfare instead of the people’s warfare at large.
Actually lately a lot of Zambian businesspeople have come up with good supermarkets to the standards of shoprite. All we need is infrasture in strategic areas where these supermarkets can be located. We have learnt a lot from shoprite, now they can pack and go
