MMD ready for public debates-Chembe Nyangu

Share

MMD acting national secretary Chembe Nyangu

The MMD party said that it will be willing to participate in any public debate as long as it is informed in good time. Party Deputy national Secretary Chembe Nyangu told QFM that people calling for public debates can go ahead and organize them if they so wish and that the MMD will be more than willing to participate and use the platform to sell its manifesto.

Mr. Nyangu said that the proposed debates should however not be used to humiliate the MMD as a party or be used to brew up squabbles that may put the party into disrepute. He added that MMD has a lot of people that are specialized in various fields who can efficiently articulate issues contained in the party manifesto.

Yesterday, Heritage Party president Brigadier General Godfrey Miyanda who featured on QFM’s Monday Nite Live programme called for public debates were aspiring candidates in this year’s elections can debate issues.

And Mr. Nyangu has said people condemning President Rupiah Banda’s move to right off the balances owed by the tenants of the former mine houses on the Copperbelt should be realistic.

Mr. Nyangu says the directive issued by the president was in line with the MMD government’s policy of empowering the citizens of Zambia.

And Miners in Kitwe in the Copperbelt Province have applauded President Ruphia Banda for his directive to write off outstanding balances on former parastatal houses sold to sitting tenants in the region.

United Mineworkers Union of Zambia General Secretary Wisdom Ngwira said in a statement to ZANIS in Kitwe yesterday that his members have pledged support to Government under the leadership of President Banda.

Mr Ngwira said it was gratifying that President Banda’s leadership had realised to empower citizens with houses through the housing empowerment scheme.

He said it was a job well done to the people just as the second republican President Dr Fredrick Chiluba did in 1992.

And former dissolved Reform Party District Information Publicity Secretary Kenneth Nguluka appealed to President Banda not to be distracted by remarks of some clergy instead concentrate on improving the living standards of the people.

Mr Nguluka told ZANIS that the majority of the people were appreciating what President Banda had done during his term of office and only priests like Bishop Alick Banda with hidden motives could talk ill of President Banda’s performance.

Mr Nguluka was reacting to Bishop Alick Banda of Ndola Diocese’s remarks that the directive by President Banda to write of the outstanding balances on former parastatal houses was a move to lure votes in this year’s election.

He said though he was not a beneficiary of the directive he was in full support because it had been done in good faith.

He stated that it was a fact that people have no capacity to finish paying for the houses and that this directive had nothing to do with votes.

Mr Nguluka said all politicians got votes from the people who stood for the truth and listened to them.

He urged Bishop Banda to preach peace to the people as the country heads towards elections and not to provoke them.

  1. People’s minds are already made up – Fr. Miha
Mission Press Director Fr.Drevensek Miha says the people of the Copperbelt already have their minds made up and that no amount of political manipulation ahead of this year’s elections will change their minds.

Fr. Miha has told QFM news that the people of Ndola and the entire Copperbelt have there own free will to choose leaders they feel will be able to address issues affecting them.

He has however, described the debt write-off for tenants occupying the former mine houses on the Copperbelt as a kind gesture to the people.

  2. He has also noted that in Ndola the government has started working on the dilapidated roads and hoped that such developments will continue even after the elections.

Fr Miha has however, warned politicians against resorting to making decisions that they feel would earn them votes by manipulating the electorate.

He says manipulating voters particularly in rural areas is criminal and that activities that may influence the outcome of election results should not be condoned.

  3. Well this is a new one, looks like there is a change in MMD policy to be willing to take part in the debate. I hope there is a credible body of journalists who can organised this in a civilized and organised way like they did it in UK and they like they do it in the US, with strict respect of time because I see RB and Sata bringing their manifesto to read at the debates and send everyone to sleep, two oldies debating, that would be something

  4. A friend of Mine, Mutinta just came back from Zambia and She wasn’t happy
She says Zambia is really not pretty, seriously. Zambia is not pretty in many respects. Public infrastructure is horrible. As in some developed countries, the politics is from the gutter. Healthcare for the many is non existent, but is readily available for those who can afford. Street children are all over. The glaring inequalities and injustices of life there, but I’m happy to do my bit in whatever way i can, I would like to set up a charity here and send what I can there The challenge is building the country as much, then after maybe a century our grand children can worry about fair distribution and social safety nets, Although My children will be mixed race, they too will be zambians and affacted. Thanks

  5. Why is there a picture of a sleeping MMD official? That’s what I like about my government, even when we are sleeping, we still manage to work and develop this country. On the issue of political debate, I don’t see this happening at presidential level. Parading RB, Sata, HH, Chipimo etc will be unfair to the likes of Sata owing to his apologetic brain size and capacity. Point is they are in different leagues. I would rather it is done in phases
Quarter finals: Rupiah vs Sata; HH Vs Miyanda; Chipimo vs Mutesa; Siulapwa vs Cosmo.
Winners proceed to semi-finals and ultimately finals between Bwezani and HH. Alternatively we can use the league system, but then Bwezani will be top halfway through the season

  6. #4 Mushota, factually your are right. As as things stand today, you are right. Everything you see today in Zambia is the fruits of what was done 20 years ago. Well noted indeed, but that is the Zambia we wish to change so that future generations will remember us as the greatest Zambia generation that changed the face of the country despite all odds. It takes only a few committed people to change a nation

    My action point plan:
-I refuse to just sit and complain.
    -I refuse to blame anybody.
-I will do the one thing am good at to help Zambia and with the others doing their bit, we shall lift Zambia to higher heights.
-My Children will live in a great Zambia and a Zambia better than what I have inherited.

    • Now you are talking Mr freedom, we need people like you. Talking ill about our mother Zambia annoys me and cannot take us any where. We only have one Zambia nor matter what we do, that fact will always remain to be so! You are a true son/daughter of the land! Thumbs up for you!!!!

  7. There other thing that bothers me as well, WHY DO AFRICANS, and inparticular ZAMBIANS USE ENGLISH NAMES?

Why John Phiri? Why Paul, Stephen when you are African?
Iam Mushota Chimfwembe, I would be so upset and drop the English name, If I was because you are NOT English. I am glad to have my Zambian/Bemba Names.

Im wondering, did your parents lose their names, Now i don’t want to sound like some uneducated fool here, so don’t ask me why I didn’t know, because I’m sure some other people here dont know either….. so lets discuss about this sensibly

In US the names such as Chris Rock, I have been told indicate their forefathers were slaves. What of zambians, Can some educated person like me, educate me please? Thanks

  8. Why are you scared ba MMD. If you claim you are developing Zambia the issue of squabbles and humiliation will not arise. Scared cheats because they know their lies will be laid bare.

  9. Is not Sata who said mr Kasonde has sold the bemba speaking people to the lozis when Kasonde joined NP? Is it not Sata who wanted Sketchley Sachika to be removed as Secretary to the cabinet because thhat position was only fit to be held by the ruling class (Bemba)? Is it not Sata who paraded GBM in kasama central where he was saying Kasama is for bembas and mugala should go and stand where he comes from? Is it not Sata who whenever Mwanawasa replaced anyone from the bemba grouping he would say bembas were being victimised until he was asked by Levy whether he was only president for bembas? Is it not Sata who said the 2006 elections were between the bemba speaking people and the Bantu botatwe (HH/Levy)? etc, etc,…..It is not even true that bembas are the majority because the real bembas are

  12. For Instance Chinese keep their names, Luo Ding, and Indians keep their names Muhammad Abbasi, and then you have Zambians with English names John Phiri, Malcoms, Michael

WHY? What is wrong with Oprah, Condoleeza, Omoroso, Rupiah, Kwame, Lebron , Shaquil, Hakainde, Mushota, Chale Yes Why Fredrick,I think anyone with an English name ought to be ashamed of it. It shows you are a puppet. Why keep your slave names?

One can be excused If they are mixed race, but I want I want to see a Zambian with an English name defend themselves, I am sure you are disgusted but you wont do anything about it. Do you want to be white?
    Thanks

  16. Mushota use your head to think instead of your little akapunda. Condoleeza, Shaquille, Lebron, Oprah and Rupiah are not African nor black names. And what the heck is an ‘ENGLISH NAME’? Is Frederick an English name? Daft Girl. Learn to use your head. Continuously thrusting your pelvis is not a very productive lifestyle.

  20. 12 Mushota
From my little history, it is that these names came because of the so called missionaries. they introduced what were called ‘christian names’. When our our grannies and grandpas went to register for school using Zambian names, they were instead told to have ‘christian’ names. Correct me if I am wrong. Any way people are going back to their roots now

  21. Copy & Paste Bembas Exposed. You guys Bembas, Lozis and Tongas who are bringing in tribal issues all the time are a disgrace. You claim to be educated but are all useless. The story is about something else and you are busy with your tribal issues. The fact is all the three tribes mentioned there have GOOD and BAD people(illiterate and literate) . So your TRIBE will not take you any where. It is about you as an individual NOT your tribe. Zambia is for all the tribes NOT only Bembas, Lozis and Tonga. You have been to school but bu VILLAGER!

  22. I see double standards here when Magande was agreable to re-scheduling of Zambian Airways Rupiah demonised him out of hate 4 the owner of the airline. But as at now what do we see, Rupiah is cancelling debts for houses not re-scheduling them. This country will never develope with the current crop of politicians how i wish God could do something similar to the floods or Sodom and gomora fire when these bragadocios are are in the national assembly so as to cleanse this nation 4 a new start

  23. @ FREEDOM, u have raised good points.
It is realy paradoxical that in this era wen our country is endowed with so many brainy, educated and energetic young pipo and so much natural resources with high tech. we have failed to liberate our country from this economic quagmire.our forefathers were less educated with les tech developt but they managed to do so much to develop our country. I therfore choose (Freedom,2011)
-I refuse to just sit and complain.
    -I refuse to blame anybody.

  24. Chiluba gave free houses too ,and then he stole our wealth .Bwezeni is doing just exactly the same .You cant compare one thing ,MMD KUYA BEBELE .DONT KUBEBA .If they give you houses ,colect, money collect, anything collect but on the election day DONT KUBEBA ,VOTE THEM OUT

  25. DONT KUBEABA DONT KUBEABA DONT KUBEABA DONT KUBEABA DONT KUBEABA DONT KUBEABA DONT KUBEABA DONT KUBEABA DONT KUBEABA DONT KUBEABA .I live in S.A but the way i saw potholes and my pleasure resort Zoo in Parklands,Kitwe sold to some rich foreigners ,my heart collapsed .My Zamtel gone ,no no no no .This time if you rig elections,Be reminded about Gagbo -Ivory coast video ,tuka kuponano together na ba Kapokola…..

  26. Iwe Copy & Paste Bembas Exposed

Its not about Bembas ,its about our country going down .Do you that Cars from Dubai via Durban can not driven on S.A roads anymore ?Do you know even when they are put on tracks you pay a certain % for road usage .I can assure you that if you see a pothole here ,you are given a token.Do you know the tracks to and from congo etc use our roads ,damage them yet pay no cent .Banda and co are down here freq, but they cant copy development and plough the ideas home.ITS SICKENING

    • #28 is lying to say trucks in route to Congo from south Africa via Zambia do not pay a cent.the truth is that all these trucks are charge what is called tall fee upon entering the country.

  27. Zambia’s cementries are the richest in the world because people are killed and die before they put in place their technical knowhow and skill .Its crazy.

  28. Question 2 (all those who like insulting are welcome to answer too) If you have not been to Zambia in the last 3 years please do not answer.Just out of curiosity please outline how RB has wrecked Zambia since he came into power in 2008.State how Zambia in 2011 is worse off than it was in 2008.Please give references where applicable. Are Zambians(not those in the Diaspora) worse off today than they were two years ago?

    • Inonge speak for us, tell them, tell them. Some people left Zambia many years ago and they just comment based on hearsays.

    • Inonge speak for us, tell them, tell them. Some people left Zambia many years ago and they just comment based on hearsays.

  29. #12 Mushota home is home no matter how bad it may look the fact is you just cant change your original. Be like Nigerians or all maybe west Africans. They are pround African, that is why they are al over around the world even employing the likes of your fience, the whites and the natives of the foreign nations. They do not suffer any complexes.Be pround my sister Zambia is yours after all there is no place like Home.I like it here in Zambia coz, greener pastchers are right here in Zambia

  30. Iwe inonge
.I worked for Zamtel many years back and Back retrenched all of them and sold Zamtel to killers of Libya.Money stolen from Libya spent in another country.Crime involves two or more It took me 30MINUTES to chingola from Kitwe ,but 2HRS to get into riverside ,i mean a dsiance of 10 Kilometers cos of potholes .Public funds have used to campaign instead of developmnt .You cant talk of development unless you have seen one.

  31. # 12 Next time if you dont sensible then dont senseless ,Waumfwa ai.You sound tribalist and i hate that .Be matured and debate like grownups.

  32. @Inonge.
I live on the Copperbelt and as such can only give an opinion of what I see here. Rb came into power just around the time of the global crisis. This resulted in massive job losses here, not his fault of course. But the price of copper rebounded but this has still has not resulted in the uptake of the lost labour. Grz has done little to compel or incentivise these mining houses to employ as many pipo as they can.
in short yes pipo here on the Copperbelt are worse off as the unemployment rate is higher than it was then in 2008.

  33. ALL OF YOU PIPO TALKING ABOUT NAMES ARE A BUNK OF JERKS.JUST EXPOSING YOUR IGNORANCE TO US,SURELY BY NOW YOU OUGHT TO KNOW THAT NAMES HAVE MEANINGS.FOR INSTANCE “CHISHALA”MEANS-RUBBISH.”MISOZI” MEANS TAERS.NOW TELL US WHAT “MUSHOTA CHIMFWEMBE” MEANS.BY THE END OF THE DAY, YOU MAY BE THINKING TWICE ABOUT YOUR NAME.WHAT DO YOU THINK WOS THE REASON JESUS CHANGED THE NAME OF SIMON TO PETER?.ITS BECAUSE SIMON MEANS ” WONDERER ” AND PETER MEANS “ROCK”.DONT JUST WEK UP AND START BRINGING ISSUES THAT ARE IRRELEVANT.CANT YOU SEE YOU HAVE DIVERTED RELEVANT ISSUES HERE?…MAYBE THIS BEHAVIOR CAN BE AS A RESULT OF A BAD ELEMENT OR ENFLUENCE WHICH YOUR NAME IS CARRYING..

  34. @12. what is in a name? Nothin. John peter paul. Who cares.and its got nothin to do with ones pride in ones africaness.some of The greatest pan africanists had english or christian names. Kenneth kaunda, leopold senghor, robert mugabe, nelson mandela augustino neto, patrice lumumba, thomas sankara. Google them all if you dont know them all and tell me if you still think there is much we can derive about how proud one is of his people. If anything you marrying a white man and constantly reminding everyone on this blog of it probably has the inferiority complex more than the english named brothers and sisters.

  35. #28 is lying by saying that trucks that are passing through Zambia from south Africa to Congo do not pay anything.the truth of the matter is that government through RATSA charges these trucks a tax known as TALL FEE.so don’t be just excited and start making contributions on issues were you have little information if any at all.cause if it were so,you were not going to expose your ignorance to this level.what you ought to know is that this site is visited by many many people of deferent levels.and many of them are well informed.if i were you i would have written.THE GOVNMNT IS FAILING TO UTILIZE THE FUNDS THEY ARE COLLECTING THROUGH TALL FEE TO MAINTAIN THE ROADS BEING DAMAGED BY THESE TRUCKS.etc.

  36. #38XPOSER . TALL FEE OR TOLL FEE. Lets not insult each other but give good advise. What # 28 DONT KUBEBA is saying is that we do not collect as much as we are supposed to so that we can maintain the roads. We should have toll fee facilities on major roads. Road maintenance is very high but our LEARNED leaders do not plan for that.

  37. Well as said by my superiors, bring on the debate and we are ready to burry what is left of the so called opposition. Peaople are forgeting that MMD has always had and still has good people that can debate and articulate issues.

In the last three or so elections we stayed away from debates because of two reasons which have been extensively documented.

    1) The quality of people to debate with just deteriorated during the second term of FTJ. We had people like Chama Chakomboko who just made the whole debate issue look like a circus in Hyde Park and it was wise to just stay away, otherwise FTJ could debate and beat anybody any time any day and anywhere and his oratory skills are well know and vastly documented. Even today , no one in the opposition can debate him face to face

  38. #12 THIS CHEAP RUBISH GIRL SHUD BE REMOVED FROM THE BLOG…NEITHER CAN WE SAY SHE IS DULL NOR INSANE BUT MAYBE SHE IS MAD

  39. #continued from #40

    2) Second reason, again it is well documented how great and awesome oratory skills God had put on the late LPM before his major accident that almost ended his life.  With that accident, his speech was badly affected and he was never  the same and it would have been irresponsible for the our great party MMD to put him through a public debate when we clearly all knew how disadvantaged the accident had put him in terms of oratory skills.

Before that LPM was a great debater and his trophies are there for all to see. This was the man who even earned the name of Mr Injunction and made the word common because he was so skillful at presenting his arguments that he won numerous cases for the MMD.

Those are the reasons we stayed away from past debates

  40. #continued from 42

Today we are ready for debates. We have a president who is articulate, with great oratory skills and a great mind to go with that.

While we know debates don’t win elections, you can bring on your Mr Sata so that he is exposed by RB how one dimensional, or should I just say dimensionless,,  he is and and just how shallow he is.

I am sure he will sound like an old 70s record out of touch with reality and a new Zambia that is unfolding before our eyes.

We had the debate to be organised by objective  impartial people  and there should be strict imposition of time limit, otherwise others will think they are at Kulima Tower addressing Kaponya, and preferably the debate should be held at UNZA with young fresh minds allowed to ask questions from the audience

  41. It is shocking the amount of ignorance I’m reading on this thread. No wonder Zambia is not developing. Because these guys with such ignorance here are the same who will be leaders in future. Loss!

  42. #12 aka mushota very few will agree with you but I’m 100 percent with you there. Its inferiority complex to take on English names. Have you ever seen a British man called Mwansa or Kalaluka? Why should I call myself Derrick? A name is an identity and it represents who you are. Its time we awoke and accepted ourselves as Zambians and Africans at large by proudly using our own names.

  43. No 45 Well done, Thank you
Someone sensible. Why have a foreign name, If my name was John I would be disgusted and be so sad. As an african you should carry your african name, dress like one and not try to act like white. You are the same people who have an inferior complex. I do not agree also that a name has to have a meaning, I dont know what my name means, I am sure a TRUE Bemba would come and enlighten me and tell me what my name means, I dont know. But it is africa not Maureen, No Majory, terrible names like these. Before you have a go at my name means do you know what yours mean? I think you should NEVER have siblings with English/ AMerican names Its a joke, and unwarranted It shows how shallow minded you are. Right there You insult your ancestors, THaNkS

  44. # 46 Mushota

Point of correction, your name is NOT a Bemba name. It is from Luapula. There are no Bembas in Luapula. I assume we all did our basic History and Geography. Lets not confuse the two provinces.

  45. The Media bodies should make this debate thing a reality we really want to ask alot of questions to our presidential candidates so that we know what they think about us.

  46. A name can spell either a doomed and calamitous or a bright future for a child. As an African You should have always scoffed at meaningless names imported from the West. In our family all of us have vernacular names coined after some event or expressing our hope and expectations. For example my name I am now told means ‘A Star’.
Evil spirits and demons can be transferred through these names. Most Zambian, who tend to use Christian names, whilst accepted, have lost a rich part of your identity, and are plain DULL The creed of an African is to be proud of your history
I urge anyone with an English name, to find ways of how they can discard of it. Just because Kenneth Kaunda used that, doesn’t mean he does not feel disgusted, real and respectable people have their AFRICANS NAMES INTACT

  47. Dinx No 47 Thanks for the Point of Objection respond to no 49. I can be excused because I will have mixed race children with their scottish father . Thanks

  48. # 30. INONGE. Can’t you at any time give your own opinion on anything instead of asking questions. The answer about what Sata/PF has done so far was given, but you did not seem to get it.You can not say this is wrong if you do not know what is right. You measure beauty in relation to what is unpleasant (ugly). As you isolate Sata/PF from others like RB/MMD as you assess him you lose it. Compare as well. You like debate. Make your questions to the point. You can not just say what is in the water. You get so many replies: sand, fish, oxygine and hydrogen, salt, hydro energy, mud, ETC.

  49. I there is one thing zambians lack it is intellectual ability, jugding by the many daft comments being posted.and these are the same young people who are the leaders of 2mrw.shame

  50. Why can’t we for once discuss the matter at hand?the topic of discussion is not sata or bembas or tongas.please people lets grow up,i believe we are all mature adults who have been to school.

  51. MUSHOTA

Your idea on starting up a Charity sounds very good. Its good to see you have that sense of responsibility to our country.

Independent Observer is another hardworking, intelligent & handsome Zambian guy who is doing it alone and helping the poor homeless children in Zambia, Malawi & Zimbabwe. We should all work together especially those of us in foreign countries to make a difference. Keep it up. We need more sister’s voices on LT

  52. @Mrs pk.
remember having a rather heated debate with independent observer and a few others regarding philanthropy and it ameliorating the despondent state of africa’s masses. I said then as I will here that all acts of charity are commendable and should be applauded always. But if the misery is huge then massive acts are what are required.and the only agent of such change on such a magnitude is government!

  53. A government with the right motivation and accumalation of skills can create hundreds of thousands of jobs for its pipo. And giving a man a job is the equivalent of teaching a man to fish rather than just handin him some fish. But please, go on with your plans of charity and bring joy into someone’s life.

  54. The battle is between SATA and RB, the rest are just ‘ curtain raisers’ . Gen. Miyanda thinks he can convince the 12million Zambians through a couple of radio debates, that’s being out touch with realities. We had all the 5 solid years to sell our manifestoes and convince our people, it’s quite late for anybody to come on board now.

  55. debate is what we are waiting for because we can easily assess who to put in power. ba MMD if indeed you have brought the development that you always talk about this is the right to defend your party. as far as am concerned as a chingola resident I have not seen any development in chingola. Roads are pathetic just moving from town to kasompe you will take more than 1hour.

  56. #42 MMD bootlicker I think you are a very smart person. Will you marry me? As long as thats not your face in the gravatar.Indeed it would be nice to see a presidential debate like the way the Americans do it.Unza as a venue is a superb idea.

#30 Inonge great question.I’m not in Zambia so I won’t answer. much. Reasons like RB travels too much are very shallow. From what people on the ground are saying there are some improvements in zambia.Though it raises eyebros when things are done in the election year

  57. i wish mushota would stop talking about irrelevant things and instead focus on issues at hand. always yapping about her white husband and mixed race children. walitutukilwa mwa?

  58. 55 Ali mwana wa afrika

I am a Professional UK based working in my field. A Mother with Five Children. Three 3 are biological and Two that I adopted. So, I can relate when people help the poor and not wait on the Government to fix all problems. I was just trying to encourage the young lady MUSHOTA to follow her moral instincts in helping others.

  59. 55 Ali mwana wa afrika

If you had heated debates with others, please spare me. I am not keen. I am not sure where you are coming from. This is not about what the government can do. Its about human beings helping others just the Churches, NGO and Charities do to help the poor. Helping the poor is not only a practice in developing poor nations but even in the Rich Industry Developed Worlds, we see these moral practices in every day.
The Rich nations such as the USA has millions of poor people that get support from philanthropic people every single day, because the US Government cannot help everyone of its citizen.

  60. 55 Ali mwana wa afrika

Japan as rich a nation it is, it as humbled itself to allow financial support come from the rich individuals, NGO, Churches and other nations to help the disposed poor through the natural earth quack disaster. I am not here to question the Zambian government but encouraging others to give back to society as a moral obligation.

  61. Mwape Kauseni
I agree with you. Its nice to read debates where all is not about insults.

MRS PK.. I am also glad to see sisters like you voicing out. Men, some who just come to insult and have nothing to say at all, have dominated LT. Good points though! God will reward you for adopting those two kids

  62. Look at Nyangu, he is busy “Shikapwasharing” and I wonder whether this is the way they would be walking into debates, slumbering and snoring heavily like Kayope and Bwezani do it at international forums embarrassing Zambian in the process. Apparently during the Livingstone Indaba of SADC, Bwezani was busy snoring when Sekuru Mugabe scored a fast one by claiming Zambia and Zimbabwe were the same at violence. Bwezani was awaken from his slumber by Umshini wami Zuma’s blast of laughter.

  63. Dinx #21 Dont pretend mwana face reality,me Iam bemba and the truth is i can’t vote for a lozi chap no matter how good or educated he may be. reason for that dont ask me- i have just developed that feeling and 95% if not all bembas know that bcoz they feel the same too but pretend to avoid talking. am sorry me i need something beyond prayer to changed my stance.

  64. Dont embarrase ba RB by taking him for a a debate naimwe he will sleep mukandambwe no ku ndambwe at the convetion he was dozing.

  65. 67# Chewe

Speak for yourself. Many Bemba people voted for RB in the 2008 Election. I also believe that a lot of us Bemba’s will vote for Sata this year too. I am one of the many. Zambia has never had a Bemba President.

Kaunda is Tumbuka (partly from Malawi or Eastern Province
Chiluba is Ushi (partly The Congo or Luapula Province
    Mwanawasa was Lenje (Central Province)
Banda is Ngoni (Chipata, Eastern Province)

You might have to wait for years for a Bemba President. One Zambia – One Nation

I am married to a Lawyer from Petauke (Eastern Province) and I look at her as a human being.

Actually, she speaks better Bemba than me. She also speaks Lozi because her late father was a Headmaster in Mongu and Monze when she was young.

  66. Presidetial debates are welcome for the country to judge the best candidate. Talk of Fr. Miha is irrelevant. Fr.D Miha is NOT an authority on the genesis and evolution of politics in Zambia. It is a pity we still have remnants of minds that believe that what a white man says is always gospel true to be worshiped by all. Antagonistic comments by some Catholic Priests – even on well-meaning gestures, make us smell a rotten rat, and the reason they attract our suspicions for being linked to international crusades to distabilize Africa, through a Zambian platform. They see Zambia as the hub of liberation wars in southern Africa. Another target country is Zimbabwe because of that country’s land pilicy. We are curious as to what propels Catholic Priests to even criticise a genuine smile by…

  67. Public debates by prominent leaders nourishes our faculty of judgtement. Sata has no better IQ to welcome a proposed debate. To fellow young browsers of this informative website, I must admit that sme news media in South Africa and abroad (UK & USA) protrayed Julius Malema as a dangerous radical born to threaten the lives of the boers. When this clique of die-hard racists dragged Malema to Court, the composure and manner of debate he delivered in Court has merely revealed that Julius is a quick fine & logical thinker who understads the aspirations of Africans better. This time around I will find it very difficult to accept political comments by Fr. Miha, Bishop Duffy and their allies Bishops Mpundu & Banda, Fr. Bwalya and Guy Scot. The Ngonis in their wisdom say that “WAKO-NI-WAKO”.
