THE Government has constituted a team of experts to probe allegations of stripping machinery at Kafue Textiles of Zambia (KTZ) by Indian Investors that are entrusted to revamp it.

Commerce Trade and Industry Minister Felix Mutati said yesterday said his ministry had received the report alleging that the investors had started stripping the company’s equipment.

“I can confirm that my ministry has received a report and immediately a team of experts was constituted to probe the extent of these allegations to establish the truth,” he said.

And the National Union of Commercial and Industrial has welcomed the Government’s decision to send a team of experts to KTZ saying the action by the Indian investors was aimed at killing the locals.

Union president Robert Munsanje said the stripping of the company’s equipment had been on going claiming that the said new investors trading under African Textiles had allegedly opened a textile company in Tanzania using equipment stripped from KTZ.

“We have received information that instead of these investors investing in Zambia they are busy taking equipment to another country where they want to start a new textile using our machinery,” he said.

Mr Munsanje said the textiles was meant for the community to benefit in terms of employment and warned that if the investors did not bring back the equipment the residents would not hesitate to stage a demonstration.

He said the Government was informed way back and residents were now running out of patience and putting pressure on the union which had tried to engage it to seek early intervention.

    • What did Mutati show again apart from blatant ignorance and negligence? What is there to praise when equipment is long gone? This is like a goal keeper diving after ball is in the net and we praise him as a great goalie. Nay. It can never be like that.

  1. Too late ba Mutati. You are chasing ghosts. The Blue Headed Banda fitenges are coming from Tanzania made by Kafue Textiles – Dar-es-salaam. Actually RB even helped loading the last computer on the truck to Tanzania. You are sending your so called “experts” to a wrong place. The equipment is in Dar, not Kafue. Wrong direction bbambo.

  2. With fraudsters ruling the country, what should we expect? It was wrong to sell Kafue textiles in the first place. Its problems had to do with management and not ownership. Once ownership changes, hands, there is almost nothing outsiders can do, especially government.
    Remember that: Nature+Technology-Regulation= Plunder
This is why we have plunder on a massive scale. There is little or no regulation on most if not all foreign owned companies.

  3. I wonder when we will grow out of these cheap tactics of trying to please the masses through nonsensical patriotism when it has been know for a long time that there has been asset stripping at KTZ. Ifya bupuba !

  4. in a country wher investers shoot ppl and go scot free, a toothless judicial system tht’s bhaves selectiv. Wht difference wil it mk 2 thez kafue who’r only tking wht they own even if u parade yoselvs wth solidarity speeches? My gess is only thoz demontrating wil face the wrath of police. Ths is land of deep ingrained deception.

  6. What do you expect from Indian investors? These chaps have a funny culture and mindset when it comes to investing in Africa. If I had my way, I would seriously monitor any Indian investment and ensure they stick to the investment pledge they made before allowing them to purchase any privatised company.

  7. Good morning

These allegations, if established to be true, are quite serious. These so called “investors” should then be tried and convicted for trying to obtain profits through malicious tactics.

KTZ is not for sale! It should be revamped and fostered to manufacture locally-processed materials that can access both regional and international matrkets and consolidate our economy. We do not want Chinese or Indian conmen that come in the name of investment to raid our country and leave!

  8. Too late ba mutati mwasensela lilya akasuba kawa. Ama machines yaliya akale sometime early last year.Mwali kwi naba Banda.Yo investors that’s how they behave since you are not interested in monitoring how they operate once you bring them in.

  9. I strongly agree with #2. The Big Headed Banda fitenges are coming from Tanzania made by Kafue Textiles – Dar-es-salaam. I am not sure if RB also helped pack the last mouse of the computer on the truck. So there we are ladies and gentlemen: literary shifting KTZ to Tnazania. This is the work of Kafupi who did not want anything that Kaunda created. Ndipo kaja Kakafupi I can put him under my foot and squeeze him hard!

    • Kukamangilila nthambo kuvinthu, then kukamangilila kuchimutengo elo kumanga nthambo ku motoka and drive away! Nikaphwisi kaja kamunthu.

  10. But surely ba Mutati, ar u saying u ve just heard about this asset striping today? KTZ is now a piggery am reliably told..like mulungushi texile is a chicken run

  11. On what terms did the Indian investors take of Kafue textiles? If they fully owned it and all the equipment then they are at liberty to do with it as they please provided they did not break any agreement or laws. If they have another plany in Tanzania where they feel they can utilise the equipment more effectively then who are we to stop them? We have no legal basis to do so. I can most certainly see why Dar as salaam is a more attractive site than Kabwe (access to the international sea port). So so long the contract was quite about their obligation regarding asset stripping etc Mutati is wasting time and money in engaging these so called experts!! And to some of the bloggers above please stop the hating against Indians!!!.. The are just shrewd business men!!

  13. I seem to remember reading last year (although I can’t remember where . . . I bet you folks more than me) that given the present rate of interracial births, somewhere in the future–say, several hundred years–the entire human race will be the same color. THE GROUPS and Zambians who are today advocating either directly or indirectly, the social equality of the white, black, and other races which all intelligent people know will lead to mongrelisation and intermarriage of these races Is this true? If it is, approximately what color will our descendants be? Will the makers of flesh-colored Band-Aids finally be able to settle on a shade that makes everybody happy? Most important of all, will we have to come up with a new reason for hating each other? Thanks

  14. Another RAMCOZ Luanshya in the making. Are we expected to believe that Govt was not aware about this? Do not insult people’s intelligence like this. These are the secondary industries we are supposed to nurture as they have the potential to out live the mines. What is going on???

  15. # 13 bla bla. how ironical about your name with your contribution. its indeed bla bla. 1. Kafue Texitles is in Kafue not Kabwe. 2. For government to raise concern it means there is an agreement for the indians to invest here not at liberty as you put it .Coming to this issue, corruption is the greatest obstacle. can you imagine all interested parties let this happen without stopping it.

  16. Mushota is at it again. This time with an irrerevant contribution to the topic of as usual course. Try stick to the topic kamuzimai iwe. We are fed up of your racial remarks! I like it though when you do not understand issues at hand.

  17. #10 Walasa.
    Read our manifesto,PF manifesto,and THINK.
    Such stupid things wudnt b happening in a serious govt.Same goes 2 copper,zero benefit 2 ZAMBIA.So sad.
in maths terms, our current govt is a “zero vector” no magnitude,no direction, toothless.
Foreigners r milking us,i wonder if we cud milk others.RB is a ‘shimuchita panono’.
    VOTE 4 SATA

  18. Why did Govt not put in measures to ensure that no equipment stripping took place. What happened at the borders, meaning ZRA and security wings could not detect the export equipment to Tanzania without valid documentation. Some pipo at high level were involved.

  19. Does this government have economic intel at all ? Or this went through the window when Super Ken left.We seen too keen to invite these “investors” but do little or nothing to find out what they are actually up to.

  20. Just wondering if Zambia will remain with an industry to boast about? Where is Mansa batteries, Mulunushi textiles, Luangwa industries in Chipata, Kafue textiles just to mention but a few?

  21. Mutati knows what he is talking about the result is already pre-determined. He will just come up with a statement that the experts have said all is ok!!

The MMD is a band of leaders that just dont care about developing structural systems that can develop a country. Have you read their manifesto? It is such a shameful piece. They have been in power for 20 years and they cant even explain in their manifesto where they have come from, what they have achieved and what they want to achieve in the next 5 to 10 years.

They have become so complacent and have stopped to think creatively! All they want is to remain in power so Zambia can continue to build a road at US$700,000 per Km while in Egypt they build it at $120,000 a Km.

    Don’t VOTE for them PLEEEAAASE!

  22. Whose fault is it that we did not have a watch dog to see to it that our assets are not plundered, if not Mutati’s fault? He is as bad as all the plunderers put together because he has failed to safeguard the strategic interests of all Zambians by ensuring that investors do not abuse our docility.

  23. Our students say that this is the weakness of MMD laws. What we need is for the so called investors to be punished heavily. GRZ should also take over their operations like they have done with Finance Bank.

  24. WTF!! So you need experts to establish whether thare has been asset stripping at KT. This is abuse of expert knowledge. I would refuse to be in this team if i was appointed. In any case what were the conditions of the sale? These things have been happening 4 a long time now in zed in full view of govt. Why? coz you sell govt trophies like tujilijili on the black market, once sold you have no say. After all you fu.ckers have been paid already and chewed the money. When lap green was bidding to purchase zamtel they said the will not retrench workers but instead wud even employ more. What happened 2/3 retrenched.

  25. Mushota!!! You know wat sumtimez i think yu belong to the league of such legendary figures like bikiloni & difikoti, dangerous joburg, t bone, late sauzande, maximo augustine and jomwa. Get back to zed and earn yoself sum tong gal.

  26. My dear fellow Zambians. For how long shall we keep tolerating this nonsense? Our country might get into a state of dis-repaire if we do not take necesary action.I listen to Nathan Nyirenda’s Mwe Ma Kufi everyday.I shed tears. Our politicians are compromised. Our resources are being extracted massively and yet a Zambian in Misisi Compound,Shangombo,…has never drunk a drop of water from a tap! They are ripping in our open naked eyes.Look at our education system, health, employment, life expectancy, housing, other basic needs.God.What did we Zambians do or not do to deserve this state of affairs.Ubuchushi, insala ne chipowe fya isula ichalo chesu konse. Is it our skin (as Mushota questions),People have obtained PhDs,We are endowed with all resources,or are we?

    Its too much.

  27. Twalipwalala pa Zambia! They did it to Kapiri glass, to ROP, to the mines and they will keep on doing it until you learn to write BOLD prints in the selling agreements. You think we call ’em infestors for nothing?

  28. There is no control in the country, when u bring in foreign investors u give them guidelines. But zambians give more respect to foreigners, thats why every jim and jack from abroad they are able to set up companies and run the companies the way they like. Zambia will not progress, MMD should go!

  29. If there’s one person who is serious with his work is Mutati! Well done and keep it up! A campaign to vote for you will be constituted. You don’t Banda Banda most of the time you just get on with your work. Bravo
