CHIEF Mwanachingwala of Southern Province has described Chiefs Nalubamba and Macha, who denied endorsing President Banda, as hypocrites.
And Royal Foundation of Zambia chairperson Chief Mukuni has described utterances by the two chiefs over the Mazabuka resolutions as unfortunate.
Chief Mwanachingwala said in a telephone interview yesterday that Chief Nalubamba is trying to console and please United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema because the Patriotic Front/UPND pact was unsuccessful.
He was commenting on comments attributed to Chiefs Macha and Nalubamba that they never endorsed Mr Banda for the 2011 elections.
“Chief Nalubamba is depressed that the PF/ UPND pact is dead and is only displaying his anger because he supports the UPND,” he said.
Chief Mwanachingwala said Chief Nalubamba encouraged him to invite President Banda to the recent conference of Southern Province chiefs where it was resolved that the chiefs would support Mr Banda in this year’s tripartite elections.
He said Chief Nalubamba should have told President Banda during the meeting that he would not endorse him.
“Why should Chief Nalubamba U-turn on this matter when we agreed that we would give Mr Banda all our support during the meeting?” Chief Mwanachingwala said.
He said Chief Nalubamba should thank Mr Banda for everything the President has done in his chiefdom and not show ingratitude and disrespect.
“Zambians should forgive Chief Nalubamba for denying what he earlier agreed to, because he doesn’t know what he is doing,” Chief Mwanachingwala said.
In an interview yesterday at his office, Chief Mukuni said he does not want to believe that the articles attributed to the two traditional leaders in The Post of yesterday are true and he hopes to hear that Chiefs Nalubamba and Macha were misquoted.
“It would appear that in Zambia today, there seems to be a culture of dissenting for the sake of it. It is very unfortunate indeed. I am sure the two chiefs will have problems with their subjects because how do you expect someone to say such things when they could not do so during the deliberations,” he said.
Chief Mukuni said he would like the two traditional leaders to come out in the open and state their true position on the matter of endorsing Mr Banda.
He said even when he spoke during the Mazabuka conference, he did not speak in his personal capacity about the traditional leaders’ support for Mr Banda but that it was a resolution which represented all the 41 chiefs.
“What I presented to the President were the feelings of the majority on their support for President Banda as Presidential candidate. These were not my personal feelings,” he said.
Chief Mukuni said he has been trying to get hold of the two traditional leaders but to no avail.
And Chief Chilyabufu of Itezhi-tezhi described the utterances of Chiefs Nalubamba and Macha as false while Chief Sinazongwe said he is extremely disappointed with the two traditional leaders.
“I disagree with the two chiefs and I am also angry with them. There is something wrong. Maybe they must have been approached by some opposition politicians who could have swayed them to change their stance. It is not right to go against what you have agreed to,” he said.
The traditional leader wondered how Chief Macha, who was secretary of the conference of chiefs, and wrote the minutes as well as the resolutions, could all of a sudden make a U-turn on supporting President Banda.
“Chief Macha was secretary of the conference and he wrote that all the 41 of us agreed and supported the proceedings. I don’t remember anyone disagreeing. I don’t know why he had to change,” Chief Sinazongwe said.

I hate the reasoning of Mwanachingwala and Macha. Why should Chief Nalubamba thank RB for bringing “??Development???” to his Chiefdom?? No Zambian owes RB or Government any Thanks for doing his duty! It is nonsense to kneel down and thank RB for using our money to build our hospital or school!! It is not a favour he is doing to us!!!
#1 sorry I meant Mukuni not Macha
Well, I personally do not see a problem. People should not vote because of their chief’s views. Indeed, chiefs should NEVER air their views on political candidates whether positive like Mwanachingwala or negative like Nalubamba. They should resolve to work with the government of their subjects. Sectarianism from chiefs is wrong. As for Clergymen, I can accept for them to urge their flock to vote for people that will promote their Church agenda. Like, anti-gay, abortion, polygamy, immorality issues etc.
when Mukuni says he will support RB, in what capacity? what roll is he going to play? MMD campaign manager?
Personally I have much respect for Chief Bright Nalubamba he is man of principals. I have been to his palace which built single handed and the gornverment have refused to install power there. today you want him sing songs for you? No. what has RB have done for his chiefdom? nothing completely nothing
Some of these chiefs are embarrassing there subjects. It is not noble for chiefs to become cadres like Mukuni and Mwanachingwala have decided to become. Politics is not a game for chiefs, lest they lose the respect their subjects give them. Just think of how much insults Sata have received from Cadres like Senior Citizen, Bootlicker, VJ and others who think insulting is politics. How will these chiefs feel to be insulted like that? CHEAP CHIEFS. Stop politicking. Leave that to your subjects
I meant (THEIR) subjects.
Mukuni have always pladged to support the MMD when ever is election time but look at his chiefdom, the MP and all councilors are from the opposition. I dont know is he deceiving. This man just wnat KOBILI form RB. Mukuni can’t perform miracles to take Kazungula to MMD thats UPND strong hold Mukuni knows that he just want chew its election time
I dont think a follow the leader syndrome can work in southern pronvice, Mukuni i will support RB alone even his wife and children will not. This was proven when Mwanachingwala was a compaign manager for MMD in his chiefdom during last Ntebe ward by-election when MMD candidate got only one vote suspected to be from Mwanachingwala
These villagers (so called chiefs) are funny. Why should u worship the president for putting up a road (or giving free vaccine) in your chiefdoms using taxpayers money? is’nt that the responsiblity of govenment and the president?. grateful for what? let them come to USA and see how serious people work . The folks need serious sensitization, it appears they dont know what they deserve, thats why politicians capitalize on their ignorance.
Twasapuka toba Tonga f.o.o.l.i.s.h Chiefs bought again at the expense of us where to now
It happened also in 2008 presidential bye-election, where it was reported that all chief in southern province support RB, but when it came elections Banda was getting 20 votes in some constituencies. Southern province is a dynamic province where chiefs have no influence over their subjects, only on traditional values. mwanachingwala and Mukuni are the only chief who are given Diplomatic passports by Rupiah Banda, so if they are having codial relationship with him then it is not a reason for them to assume all will fall for their preference.
Mwe Mfumu, keep away from politics. You are degrading the high office to which you were genetically called. Pledge to work with your subjects’ choice. Follow the example of the real king in Zambia, the Litunga.
I am now convinced that these two characters i.e. Mukuni and Mwanachingwala, do not know what they want. In fact,i want to urge all well- meaning people of Southern province to chase mukuni away. That mukuni chap is from central province and it looks like the money that he has made in Livingstone has gotten to his head. That guy is not a southerner, hence he can afford to insult the local people.
The problem here is that these chiefs went to this meeting with different understanding of its purpose and as usual the 2 MMD vuvuzela/cadre chiefs Mwanachingwala and Mukuni hijacked it & turned it into wamuyayaya mediocre circus. What interests of their subjects were addressed by this meeting? What are the people of Southern Province going to gain from this meeting with RB?
“He said Chief Nalubamba should have told President Banda during the meeting that he would not endorse him”
This speaks volume..so he was quite when the resolution was made?
Mukuni is a Chinese cabbage. He was bought a long time ago by the MMD and their chinese funds.
why is it that chiefs in southern province are always to quick to resolve and say who they will support . whay dont we hear the same from other provinces -northern for example . it is undemocractic to speak FOR MY VOTE . its an individual vote and does not come a provincial vote . such demographics aspects will continue to create divisions in our country . there is no winning vote in a democracy .every vote counts ,so why overemphasise some voters.shame on you chiefs, where you fail to see the effects of your bought votes
So Charles Malambo (Mwanachingwala) is telling us that Chief Nalubamba was quiet during the meeting. The man is clever, he new when to talk, not indoors. he wanted his voice to be heard to the public not to RB alone
# 13,he was quiet because there was no such resolution. After the meeting Mukuni rushed to SP PS’s home who is Daniel Munkombwe’s niece to issue that nonsense.Mukuni & Malambo are well known MMD cadres.Does MMD have representatives in those clowns chiefdoms?
#1 you have said it all. I am with you.
Kindly, open my eyes, How do chiefs campaign for a president. it is not common to see a chief moving door to door in my province. How are those chiefs going to do it.
is it any mystery why some pipo dont take our chiefs seriously except during traditional ceremonies.
UPND forms next gvment
UPND have support from four pronvices western, central, northwestern and southern and rural vote is for UPND there remaining urban areas are for sharing
UPND have support from four pronvices western, central, northwestern and southern and the rural vote is for UPND the remaining urban vote is for sharing. RB have have these facts that why he is trying to use chiefs to compaign for him.
It is very wrong for traditional rulers to side with any Political Party becoz all Politicians come from particular chiefdoms and are subjects of all chiefs.Well meaning Royal Establishments should condemn this act.Suppose the oppostion won the elections what are they going to say.As much as we know that they should support the Gvt of the day, they are supposed to be Neutral but keep their vote as a secret.
I do’nt want to pre-empty your serious debate on this site and fingers, to those who do not know His Royal Highness Chief Mukuni Monokalya the Lion of Southern province is that he is a well exposed man, with due respect a deserving chief of the Toka Leya and holder of a Degree in economics and he is running very very successful businesses in the Tourist capital of Zambia……….so your opinion is welcome so as his, period
I meant pointing fingers…..
