NAREP calls for stoppage of Stand Up for Zambia

Share

The opposition National Restoration Party (NAREP) has called on Chanda Chimba III to discontinue “stand up Zambia” television documentary.

“ At no fora has NAREP ever declared its support for homosexuality and should you continue to misrepresent our views in such a defamatory manner, we shall be forced to institute legal proceedings against you” the national secretary said.

NAREP National Secretary John Phiri says Mr. Chimba should refrain from his incessant and unwarranted attacks on innocent citizens in his Television documentary which he (Mr Phiri) says is spreading malicious stories about individuals and organisations including his party.

In a statement availed to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Phiri said in his Stand up for Zambia documentary, Mr. Chimba showed a footage of NAREP NEC officials while narrating about homosexuality saying this was in a bid to falsely portray that the party supports the vice.

” In a bid to perpetuate this falsehood Mr. Chimba has maliciously and erroneously used footage showing NAREP national secretary John Phiri and NEC member Mr. Simataa Simataa, ” he said.

He said the said footage was taken during a meeting organised by the Electoral Commission of Zambia ( ECZ ) convened to discuss the 2011 electoral process and had nothing to do with issues of homosexuality.

“ At no fora has NAREP ever declared its support for homosexuality and should you continue to misrepresent our views in such a defamatory manner, we shall be forced to institute legal proceedings against you” the national secretary said.

Mr. Phiri states that Mr. Chimba’s persistence in highlighting the issue is an attempt to divert attention from key problems being faced in the nation which can only be attributed to the appalling leadership in Zambia.

He added that NAREP was founded on principals and values which are biblical and believes in the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation and respects the supreme law of the land which does not support homosexuality.

  1. Elias Chipimo Jr has class. This is the real Obama and not the other chap.

  2. Real Obama???????? he can’t even carry out a proper organised campaign let alone explain his party’s manifesto. Just like his friend Sonny Chintombwa he should consider standing as an MP where he reckones hes got sizeable support to launch him to Manda hill.

  3. Chipimo Jr is delusioinal. This is the problem with kids who were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. The Obama comparisons are misplaced in Zambia and best he should have done was to link up with either MMD or PF. The rest of the political players in Zambia are clowns and are merely spoilers for the only two viable contenders; H.E RB and Cobra. As for the homo rumours, who knows, he was partners with Machila at their law firm so kaya???

    • Thats not true, his father may have been a minister but this guy has worked for what he has or who is now. You just don’t end up at Oxford Uni. because your father is a somebody. Get your facts right ![-(

  4. The solution to the unfair coverage of politics by the public media is simply to boycot the TV licence. If people are not happy about ZNBC, there should be a mass protest against payment of TV licence. The BBC has a code of ethics laid down by the governors to cover ALL political parties fairly, whether small or big. The Times of Zambia, Daily Mail, ZNBC and ZANIS are all funded by the tax payer therefore it is totally wrong for them to be biased towards the coverage of the ruling party. There is a distinction between government and MMD. That distinction is based on publicising what GOVERNMENT does and not attacking what opposition parties say or do.

  5.  dr charles. Ur an economic refuge. in africa things are sort of distorted due to a host of factors but mostly historical. so jst copy and paste. do u knw 7 billion pounds was not accounted for by the british ministry of defence according to the national audit authority during the year 2008

  6. @ number 4 msana wanzili Amen! I agree with you 100 percent for once. Obama my foot, if you seriously even consider Obama, what has he done for black people in America? Same old Clinton Rhetoric, lets be real and not dream about silly things. Question, would Martin Luther King have accepted Obama’s approach to a holy institution such as marriage, and his all gods are equal speeches, no little God is equal to my GOD Jesus.

  7. Reading through the Calls of NAREP and a few comments based on individual opinions below sets a point of departure for a certain ISM. We are in a period where the passion, the desire and the will for Change is innevitable. Whether the Change will be brought by NAREP or any other we can not tell now, but the wind of Change is here and now. Martin Luther King Jr ‘s wish based on reflective reasoning, there is no conflict with Obama’s approach. He preached and wished for peace, freedom and Equality. No discrimination of any kind, respect for all Americans, the same was the wind that led to that change in South Africa. Christianity is not rigid as many think of it. It calls for deeper reasoning to undestand

  8. Yes this TV licence business should come to an end before Zambia is put on fire. All these fires that we are seeing now in most of these North African or middle east countries all started due to such selfishness. Some few people think they own countries and its wealth and yet the reality is that we are all entitled to what the nation can offer equally. ZNBC is not for MMD alone but for everyone of us Zambians. After all we all pay for its running and we are also entitled to choose who to support. Such biased programs can just fuel anarchy in the country. It may look simple and advantageous for MMD now but one day cards will turn around and they will be on the receiving end. MMD you do not own us and government can run without you. I end here!

  9. NUMBER 5: YOU SAYING NONSENSE ABOUT JOHN PHIRI? HES VERY SHARP AND INTELLIGENT! WABA IFIMA TOLE, MUSULA OBE!

  10. #13 Linyunga Ndambo – That is a very relative statement. I get the impression that he is as dulll as you.

    • This is the kind of rubbish talk that made Kalusha FAZ PRESIDENT in the first place, and he is got no clue what he is supposed to do with the position.Do not even play arround with national emotion by mentioning none value adding people like him for presidency, the chap is so full of himself he might just stand as an independent candidate in the elections because of people like you though he does not understand how government is run.Running the affairs of the country is not a laughing matter people lets give it the seriousness it deserves by suggesting value adding people for presidency.

  11. NAREP need to broaden their angle of advice to include The Post which has the principal database from which Chanda Chimba draw contents of his documentary.

  12. Dr Charles Ngoma you speak sense. We should do a Tunisia over these TV licenses. We must protest because our tax is being misused by a ruling party that doesnt understand democracy. I think Elias Chipimo Jr is far above the current leadership but he has no money to project himself to the rest of society.

  13. hehehehe..NAREP..come 2025 you can win..not now..hahaha..John phiri ..u should have been director..hahahaha

  14. Angoni Bull@18

You are full of it, do Tunisia my foot, do you really know what’s now happened in Tunisia? Let alone to the uprisings in North Afica,it was the west” method of divide and conquer! This has allowed terrorist into power and wait and see the sufferings that will follow. Already in egypt christain churches & people are burning , this is just the beginning boy

  15. @8 gumbcu
You are just fluffing. I support the President and I do not think he has direct responsibility for the goings on at ZNBC. There is self censorship and editorial direction but it should not be for the benefit of only one political party. The President himself declared in his Opening Parliament speech that the public media would be privatised. According to custom, the speech the head of State gives when he opens Parliament sets the tone for Government legislation over that Parliament. But, there has not been any moves to privatise the public media to date. The President needs to be seen to encourage editorial freedom as well as fair coverage of ALL political parties. The Post can do whatever it wants, it is not paid for by the public.

  16. If we want change of government, it is not Mr Sata we should have because that is a chip from the same block. We would be looking at people like HH, Elias Chipimo Jr etc. That would be REAL change. Sata, Magande, Miyanda, Nawakwi, Mwila etc are all part and parcel of MMD. Their bricks and cement are already in the foundation of this party whether they like it or not. In actual fact, Mr Banda was a fresh face in MMD, haven’t we forgotten how everyone called him UNIPist? So logically, we have had a change in the last 3 years, but then logic is not for common consumption. Hitler said, ‘I use logic for the few, but emotion and rhetoric for the many and it is the many that matter.’

  17. Here is a country, rich in natural resources, its people are wallowing in perpetual poverty, the education system is nothing to write home about, the health sector is as good as dead, potholes are everywhere, electricity supply is erratic and yet we spend all our energies debating on something that has no significance on the economic situation, whether Gay people are there or not they will not affect the economy in one way or the other, they are not going to make society any different than it already is.We claim to be a christian nation, but you only have to look at the person who declared Zambia a christian nation.Has this declaration made Zambia morally right than before it was declared, have we become a better nation after the declaration?

  18. Viva CHANDA CHIMBA III. He is the best reporter as at now. He knows the archives better than the POST guys. Go on exposing their past mwana. Why stopping Chanda? What about Mr Frank Bwalya, Simon Kabanda and the POST? FOOOOOOOOOOOOOLISH.

  19. I love that all you seemingly ‘patriotic’ Zambians in the diaspora are supporting NAREP and Elias. However to put him on the same plate as Obama is folly and rather naive. Obama has a political background. He went to the House of Reps and Senate before he vied for the Preseidency. I listened to Elias’ interview and I believe the advice for him to start in the lower ranks and build his poilitical career is well placed. We need to see him debate in Parliament if he ever gets past that initial post, at least. Furthermore, this business of attempting to just dive nose first into public service at the top most job before even working there is dangerous. What has Elias ever done in the public service other than watch his lovely father be one?

  20. If in Zambia we strive for genuine development we need to stop being copy cats. Just because America has a young leader lets do the same, just because North Africa is having civil strife lets do the same. No!!! People lets be genuine. Lets look critically at our situation and see how best to get out of it. And lets stop flinging insults and debate intelligently. It is so disheartening to see people do it on this fora, in the papers on tv. Please stop it!!!

  21. I do not support Sata nor NAREP, but the ‘Stand Up For Zambia’ program that is aired on ZNBC is unprofessional and must be codenmed by all well meaning Zambians, whether MMD or PF, UNIP or UPND. In an election year, we must all do the neccesary to avoid violence, and not add fuel to fire. Chanda Chimba iii is a shameless journalist. You do not have to insult people in order to make a point. I know he takes advantage of the controlled judiciary to smear dirty on innocent citizens, but this must be the case. If he wants to campaign for RB, which he does, he can still campaign with honour and base his arguments on what RB has done. Infact, Chanda Chimba helps Sata with his propaganda as more people now see him as a desperate charater willing to sell anyone for a few Kwachas. Shame!

  22. Personally, I respect Chanda Chimba. He is very scholary. Very academic and the post just admire him with awe. He presents what he says with undisputable evidence. all those against Chimba have adopted this attitude of dislike for Chimba only because truth pains. Un like the Post which will publish people’s opinions as news ,nay, their own opinions, Chimba’s facts are beyond any reasonable doubt. And it is even embarrassing those who pose as journalists. The Post’s lost glory was not due to Mmembe. It is owed to people like Phiri, Jowie Mwinga [late] and others. Mmembe is an opportunist who has reaped where he did not sow and this he knows.

  23. I am equally baffled by individuals that want to compare “The Post” to the public media (ZNBC, Times of Zambia and Dailymail). The post owes us nothing but the public media is financed by us through our tax. They must act differently and set the agenda for the country instead of being a media for MMD only. This is unfair to opposition members that pay tax.

  24. Some characters on this site need to go back to the A levels to learn the difference between a public good and a private good.A public good like ZNBC,DAILY MAIL,TIMES OF ZAMBIA AND ZANIS the consumption of which can not be confined to a few chosen individuals, its for the enjoyment of everyone ,as it financed by the government through taxes,a private good like the Post and Muvi TV can be confined only to the financiers ,the owners determine who to benefit from the services of their product. So let these Public goods do their job and put programs that are acceptable to the entire public ,if MMD want to be the only ones on TV they can form a private MMD TV and use subscriptions from their members to pay for operational costs and let Chanda, william and siulapwa insult who ever they want to.

  25. @No 22, by Dr. Charles Ngoma. I recommend you, you are one of the few who have been to school and learned substance. Its a pity in Zambia we are at the moment not having any news paper but polical propagadas of either PF or MMD. Its a shame poverty has taken us to a very deeper level that the truth is not on the media due to biasiness

  26. @21 Dr Charles Ngoma
You are making a lotta sense. Chanda Chimba III is a free citizen and has freedom to say whatever he wants. If it is libelous then, it wouldn’t have been long before some people sued. What is of concern however, is why other political parties a
do not take advantage of the public media to air their views and propaganda. I do not know whether our public media are closed to them or the opposition just voluntarily shy away from them.
Prior to 1991, the Times of Zambia carried several feature articles which annoyed KK. One article described the growing popularity of MMD in Western Province. It did not go very well at Freedom House. There is no one stopping them from using the public media.

  27. same shit… different piles… lets talk of sensible change. we hold the deciding vote. nja yamwa mwa hae aina butali.

  28. #35 Are you on mars or earth ,in 1991 MMD obtained an injunction compelling all these Public media to be fair and cover them, today everything goes through state house before it is published or broadcast on air.So what is your point of course they are not allowed the opposition to appear on TV unless they are supporting Banda or condemning sata and accusing him of supporting Homos full stop.

  29. #24 waba e tall lay we are not paying that tax to watch your fellow cockroch chanda we want to see developmental things

  30. Stand up For Zambia is a free fora where a free Zambia citizen decides to compare and contrasts a lot of untrue stories from the Post Newspaper, unlike the Post which will put a sensational headline and empty on the content,Chanda Chimba III,digs deeper from the archives and makes a factual presentation. Therefore if NAREP feels that they have been defamed, why waste time, seek legal redress otherwise Stand Up For Zambia is providing the needed checks and balances for the PF and its allies.Go go Chanda Chimba whether ulelyamo or not
