Caf says Al Ahly will play one game behind closed doors following fireworks and fire flare scenes during their Caf Champions League game last weekend in Cairo that left one Zesco United player injured.
The Caf disciplinary board made the ruling on Friday when it met in Cairo.
Zesco defender Billy Mwanza suffered a hand injury in the second half of the match played on May 8 at Cairo International Stadium.
Mwanza needed five stitches on his arm after he was rushed to hospital just after he was hit by a flare thrown from the stands 10 minutes into the second half of the game.
The defender will miss Zesco’s league game against Roan United away at Kafubu Stadium this afternoon while he recovers from the injury.
CAF has also handed Al Ahly a US$ 40,000 fine on top of playing their first home game in the Champions League group stage that kicks off in July behind closed doors in Cairo.
Al Ahly went on to win the game 1-0 and advanced to the group stage on the same goal aggregate while Zesco have been relegated to the Caf Confederation Cup third round that commences in a fortnights time.
A player is injured and the game continued, strange.
Billy has to be compensated and the game nullified. A rematch must be under closed doors or in a neutral ground. This is so unfair. Its because of those flares that Zesco lost the game.
like i said before why is it that we are unable to complain effectively. as victims, this so called punishment does nothing in terms of palliating the injuries we suffered. nothing!!!
A key player injured and the game is allowed to continue? Just like FIFA’s failure to handle international associations, CAF has no b.alls too!
on the other hand we hear that the same caf has disqualified tp mazembe from the champion’s league for fielding an ineligible player after a complaint by their opponents simba of tanzania…in my view, we can achieve a lot if only zambians can use their PHD expertise against foreigners not themselves
THESE TERRORRISTS CANT LEARN A THING AT ALL. FOTBALL IS AN INTERTAINMENT AND NOT A BATTLE GROUND TO KILL PEOPLE
No No No!!! Zesco should progress and this Al Haly should be kicked out of the cup. Its a conspiracy against Southern Africa. They want to fix it so that the cup can return back to North Africa.
Zesco should have abandoned the game immediately when the incident happened. The Al haly could be disqualified. Now that they choose to continue, compehension ($40,000) should be warded to the injuried player + medical expenses settled by the host
Football administration from national to fifa levels has just become pathetic. A lot of double standards, corruption, etc. No wonder the unfortunate cadre mentality phenomenon is slowly but surely taking root. ROTTEN WORLD!
NO!!!!!! CAF you are wrong the ruling is not fear, the egypians were suppose to be disquilified! when is this injustice going to end? Most of the teams which have played in north africa have being complaining and yet you sim to sideline them why! this money thing will not help in any way bcz they have alot of money to spend and whenever a disorder arises they always find a way out. This is not fear CAF wake up!! no wonder you have now taken corruption to FIFA shame on you!!!!!
I think kapaso you are right, why was the ruling held in cairo? Dont we have other places where it could have been held? if a worker does wrong he is suspended from work to allow free investigations in the case of al ahly the meeting could not have being held in Egypt again in the same town cairo where they are! this is total infringment to justice.CAF you have failed on this one, you were suppose to teach those undemocratic charactors trying to bring there dictatorio fulishness in football. Let the player be compasated heavly since they have alot of money
