The opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has challenged Universal Print Group (UPG), a South African printing company contracted to print the country’s ballot papers, to take legal action if they feel aggrieved by the allegations.

PF Chairman for local government Given Lubinda says what company managing director for the business form division Mr. Bharat Mehta said in the Zambia daily mail that his company has never resorted to any corrupt practices is false.

Mr. Lubinda says Mr. Mheta should be truthful in his statement that UPG is a reputable and established print company which has a proud record of delivering print services to many African countries.

Mr. Lubinda even wondered why the printing company decided to respond to the allegation through a newspaper that was not even revealing the corruption allegations.

Mr. Lubinda advised Mr. Mheta to ask his staff Vik Vaid, who is said to have been the courier of bribes on behalf of the company, if he has not deposited money in a Stanbic bank, account number 0140034477502

  1. 20 years in power is too long! Time for change is ripe otherwise what will be the difference with UNIP’s 27 years! MMD has been in power for too long and has lost respect/fear for the people!

  2. A desperate rabbied dog indeed! A sign of multiple ailments taking effect.Tell us something else………… like what you will do for Kabwata apart from your norctuanal actvities.

  3. Mr. Lubinda, so you have evidence. Give it to the authorities so they can investigate. Otherwise this is mere slander.

  4. Rashid Lubinda, UPG was announced as the successful bidder a while back; why the heck didn’t you raise your concerns? There’s practically 5wks till elections and you jokers are busy playing hide & seek games while RB and HH are busy on the campaign trail! Cycle Mata will be in for the rudest shock when RB is sworn in for a second term and you’ll have nobody but yourselves to blame.

  5. Let’s debate with some sence of patrotism. Is corruption only coruption when it is the Kitwe mayor giving fuel to one Patrick? Why can’t these matters be investigated other than being swept under the carpet. Besides, no convincing reasons have been given for the unsuitability of the Government printers!

  6. Allegations after allegations, common PF, I can see these guys have already lost the elections. Can you concentrate on campaigning time is running out. Lubinda you have done nothing in Kabwata, this time am not giving you my vote.

  7. Jelita #11. I dont’ see how patriotism has anything to do with the price of this fish. Let me ask you a question. Why is it that in Zambia everything that happens is associated with corruption? Do you not think that some deals may be corruption free? And in any event if Mr. Lubinda has evidence of wrongdoing he should make it available to the authorities. It seems to me Mr. Lubinda is either playing to the gallery or being mischievious or even both.

Be minded that the ECZ is very important body and anyone who attempts to discredit it could plunge the country into darkness. Ask him to produce the evidence. Perhaps he is just diverting attention from his failings in Kabwata and knows he does not command the respect he once did.

  8. Given Lubinda and all politicians in Zambia should be working to build capacity in ECZ rather than insinuating that it is corrupt. It is really a shame that PF and Mr. Lubinda have taken this stance. PF is hell bent at wrestling power by any means possible. They won’t succeed. Go campaign Mr. Lubinda. You are the most popular party, or so you told us.

  9. “Mr. Lubinda even wondered why the printing company decided to respond to the allegation through a newspaper that was not even revealing the corruption allegations”
If your favoured paper editor thinks this is not news, it means just that its not news. There is no law which says if the allegations first appear in Stand Up for Zambia then responses should be thru Stand up for Zambia. We want to vote for you but tell us something better, not this nonsese.

  10. There is no smoke without fire, we us PF supporters we are not going to tolerate any thing to do with corruption when it comes to the printing of ballot papers. Given Lubinda you have my vote.

  11. I agree with no 9, where was PF all this time. this company was announced to be the winner of the bid long time ago. PF is just trying to find excuses for losing. just go and campaign so that you can lose with some diginity. dont waste courts time

  12. This line is for pf to defer the elections they are not ready. The account belongs to an individual and that individual should be fired if found wanting. TO PROVE THAT THE EVALUATION PROCESS WAS CORRUPTED BECAUSE SOMEONE DEPOSITED MONEY INTO THAT ACCOUNT MAY AGAIN PROVE UNFRUITFUL. THE ACCOUNT OWNER MAY NOT EVEN HAVE BEEN PART OF THE EVALUATION TEAM THAT AWARDED UPG THE CONTRACT. LUBINDA PLEASE STOP PLAYING TO THE GALLERY AND CAMPAIGN. MY CHOICE is my CHOICE “A WISE PERSON MAKES OWN DECISIONS, AN IGNORANT ONE FOLLOWS PUBLIC OPINION”

  13. One stupid thing is the shallow mindedness of the PF supporters who foolishly rubbish anything against PF and accept anything supporting PF or coming from any PF leader/sympathizer as Gospel truth.Guys,be pragmatic and objective.

  14. Just curious, are some people paid to stay on this blog? Some names appear on almost every post without serious debate or contribution like this blogger Kunta-Kinte

  15. I believe going to court is better than taking the law in your hands and go to the streets, its like MMD is telling PF not to go to court if aggrieved but stay quiet or go to the streets

  16. BITTER PILL SPERMBRAIN you so washed-up instead of yapping crap LUBINDA has said check Stanibic account #0140034477502 wiring money to an officer at ECZ personal account what more do you need to convince your SPERMBRAINS you such a retard that is whistle blowing enough to petition anyone to think twice why UPG representative is wiring money into a personal account for an ECZ officer. What services are they paying for? Ba kapanga ba mo mano ya busushi fye yeke yeka

  17. BITTER PILL MY *SS Atase mushindo wobe Can a country develop if you have maggots like this ***** BITTER PILL characters like you with no heart for the future entertain MMD that is thieving every day as long as you are benefiting then its kool ala mwanya the season is coming to account

  18. #20, if you are open minded enough you will know it is possible for people to be paid to be on these blogs, infact there is potential for any of the parties, if not all to do that. The best you could do though is to engage Kunat-Kinte in a meaningful debate. He may equally accuse you of being paid….and you wont have achieved anything.

  19. Whilst you are waiting like a fool they are busy oiling their 24/7 printing presses and printing dodgy ballot papers, if proved right; what then?? Bad timing…work is in progress!!!
Sort your strategy PF and place informers at the borders and airport with cameras!!

  20. Zambian watchdog, could you create a webpage or prayer wall for the Zambianelections where prayers can be posted until after the presidential results. Zambia needs prayer. God bless Zambia
