We won’t allow PF to derail elections – RB

File: President Rupiah Banda waves to the crowd after addressing a public rally

PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has said he will not allow anybody to derail the 2011 tripartite elections on flimsy grounds.

Mr Banda said when he addressed a mammoth rally in Nakonde yesterday that he would not listen to the same people who relentlessly pressed for the announcement of the election date but were now searching for reasons to have the elections delayed.

The Patriotic Front has recently sued the MMD starting with challenging the party for floating president Banda alleging that his parents were not Zambian.

The PF also challenged the continued stay in office of vice-president George Kunda. But the High Court has since dismissed the two legal suits.

President Banda said the MMD, as a ruling party, could have found every reason to delay the elections but because it believes in good governance and democratic principles, it had allowed the elections to be held this year.

President Banda said the Government had played its part by making all the necessary arrangements to have the elections conducted in a free and fair environment.

“We are a ruling party and we could have found every reason to delay the elections. The MMD mandate expires this year and our Constitution demands that we must have elections where we are going to choose our leaders.

“We have done our part and put everything in place for the Zambians to choose their leaders,” President Banda said.

He told the crowd that attended the rally at Nakonde Civic Centre that although a lot had been achieved in only three years that he had been Head of State, he was not satisfied.

He said Zambians should give him a five-year mandate so that he could continue steering the country’s economy and give the people the best service.

President Banda said the people of Nakonde should entrust him with the Republican presidency and also allow the MMD to continue guiding the nation.

“Trust me and my leadership and vote for me and the MMD in the coming elections. We shall overcome the challenges facing the country. We are determined to build schools, hospitals and roads,” Mr Banda said.

He also told the people to allow other political parties to talk to them so that they could be judged for what they were.

The president said he was happy that the rural farmers had responded to the Farmer Input Support Programme which had resulted in the country recording two consecutive bumper harvests.

  1. Huge rally, viva MMD. Let them shit in their pants. The opposition is a waste of time. Let’s give Ruiah Banda another chance to complete his programs.

    • Development is a continuous process, but rupiah has brough nothing to write home about. The programmes rupiah has achieved in three years include:
enhanced corrupt practices, aimless travels, extra judicial killing of innocent and peaceful demonstrators, more poverty, disease etc.
He has lamentably failed and the country will do better without him

    • Zambia is not a His LundaZi Farm, “His Programmes”? for Zambia?. No!. No one finishes programmes on Earth. don’t be cheated.

    • It seems it is only RB and his cronies that see development. Has he not been told that 75% of Zambians are living below 5 pin per day? All this is despite talk of unprecedented development. Well it is unprecedented in your pockets and the pockets of your cronies.

  2. The Zambian People wont allow Rupiah and his gang to steal their vote

Time is running out, the Change is unstoppable !

Those crooks will be kicked out ! :-)

  3. Come what may!!MMD shall carry the day,no wonder the opposition especially PF have just realised that and are now gradually throwing in the towel with the court cases!!!Fellow bloggers,of the top two parties heading for plot 1 i.e PF & MMD the lesser evil is definetely MMD.

    • MMD is carrying the Day. The POST is a big liar! what about the the 2 wards in WP unopossed and PF has bagged before 20th Sept?

  4. How can u kick out MMD when RB is attracting such huge crowds? Just see for yourself..the man is bouncing back to power. I am now a die hard MMD supporter. I have ditched PF.

  5. Vote for me and MMD. We will build schools, hospitals  and Roads.

How long did people wait for to be told these things? Infact the only thing of note

is the issue about schools, hospitals and roads the rest is all rubbish.

Tell people how you are going to do it and why you didn’t do it

all these years. Even I can wake up and say that. Sometimes you wonder how

    Africa is going to develop.

  6. @#4 Jojo
You are bringing home the bacon!!Spot on!!No matter how much PF make themselves feel good MMD is in for another 5 years.Only a myopic person cannot see that!!

    • And it seems you are the myopic person who cant see beyond your stomach. People in the opposition support their parties genuinely unlike you buffons who in the ruling party who cant see beyond your bellies. Shame!!! Should you sacrifice the majority just for your stomach? Dont you know that over 70% of Zambians do not want the MMD? You unprincipled corrupt foreigners

  7. Jojo, thank you for coming to your senses. We realised what you are saying long time. However there is no crime in repenting. It is my sincere hope that many others will wake up from their slumber.

You are more than welcome. Zambia is our country and we need to guard it from un realistic , short memoried leaders like MCS who trip in their thinking.

    MMD, RB Nafuti Nafuti

  8. RB, all you need to do is point at what you have done and at what you are still doing. Let those with eyes see, let those with ears hear and let the stubbon fools die out of ignorance. We, the people on the ground can sence the mood and even the most stubbon know what is coming their way.

  9. The MAN(RB) was BOOOOOOOOOD yesterday by mbala residents…my relative phoned me. the man is in for the HUGE HUMILIATION COME 21 ST SEPT. Village people know thet MMD has been riding on their heads……

  10. I was at some point very critical of the MMD. Looking at the political landscape now, it will be folly for me to vote for anybody else other than RB, until my most desired kind of candidate comes at the scene. For now, if you hate regrate and disapointments, vote RB as he is the only candidate to guarantee stability and a semblance of a steady economic development. For sure, more can be done.

  11. poor MMD supporters

    open your eyes

this corrupt regime is bought and paid for by foreign mining companies

    ———

Zambia, Africa’s largest copper producer lost an estimated income of USD 175 million in tax revenue between 2003 and 2008 from tax avoidance practices’ by Glencore AG International owned Mopani Copper Mines.

United Kingdom based Non Governmental Organisation, Action Aid said in its pilot audit by Grant Thornton, Zambia and Econ Poyry, a Nordic based global consulting and engineering company which revealed glaring irregularities in production and revenue figures that Mopani Copper Mines submit to Zambia Revenue Authority for tax administration, most which hinge on its links to Glencore AG international.

  12. continued
In the report by Action Aid, which Mopani has described as flawed and incomplete draft added that the Zambian government, may probably be losing USD 50 million annually on dividend payments from its 10% stake in Mopani Copper Mines.
The estimates are based on a pilot audit report and falls into two broad categories of transfer pricing of copper at below market rates and over inflating costs. It added that the analysis was calculated by the sum of difference between the copper revenue and the mining model and in a trial balance from 2003 to 2008 is USD 697 million.

and rupiah has declined to investigate Mopani’s tax affairs despite calls from development charities !!!

Rupiah f*ck you and you are happy LOL so he should carry on… LOL

    maybe you need vaseline LOL

  13. RB,you are indeed a man.You have done what nobody ever anticipated. It will really take time to dismantle your record.Just 3 years in office, results are there for all to see even the blind except the stupid PF arm chair critics.

    • Mr. Bitterpil, I wanted to see the workplan for Mr. RB which he proposed WAS GoING TO do IN THREE YEARS ENDING ON 20TH SEP. I thought he was 2008 campaigning to allow him finsih LEVYs?

  14. Stay steadfast RB and your ruling people’s national party MMD. Sata has not only been politically disarmed, but also disoriented to the point of turning into a venting vanity from court-to-court. While he is doing all this, you are galvanizing your new mandate around the country from border to border. Since you announced elections’ date with your battle ready line-up, this thing called Sata is busy in courts when you have been canvassing the country in Chibombo, Kabwe, Kapiri, Sinazongwe, Livingstone, Monze, Mazabuka, Mwembeshi, Chipata, Mfuwe, Lundazi, Kasama, Nakonde, Mpulungu,Muyombe then heading to Lusaka for a day before heading West and Northwestern.Ramble in the jungle.

    • Today I heard someone mentioned that Kasama weather was very cold for RB. He asked if he could be given Mbaula, but that was not available. Listen why is RB not sympathetic? He should go to see KK in Namibia. As Head of State he must pay attention to what can win pipos hearts such hopistal, or accident scene visit.

  15. MMD IS FERRYING PIPO AS FAR AS LUSAKA TO GO AND ATTEND THESE RALLIES IN OTHER TOWNS…..I KNOW FRIENDS WHO WHERE FERRIED FROM LSK TO THE COPPERBELT ON FRIDAY TO GO AND BOOST THE CROWD THERE. THIS YR MMD IS GOING…VIVA PF

  16. Lets be fair here; how many leaders can do the following in three years: Roads, Schools, hospitals and clinics including mobile ones, airports, farm blocks and their free inputs, houses for police, houses for sitting tenants, training and recruitment of teachers, doctors and nurses, money in your pocket through CEC and the rest are details!

Now look at the outcomes: Increased national reserves at $2bn, low middle income status, single didgit inflation, B+ credit rating, all closed mines operating, trade surplus for two years, bumper harvest for two seasons. Now let other show us what is on offer. VIVA Dr RB nafuti nafuti !!!!!

  17. RB is busy talking to voters and campaigning,  Sata is busy talking to the Post and making false allegations. And when RB wins he will be saying that the elections were rigged.

  18. # 17 bitter pill

“RB, You have done what nobody ever anticipated”

Indeed, you are right, nobody anticiped he is the worst IMPOSTOR

    – ministers rob donors (health, roads)
    – arrogance against donors
    – 100 million dollars swindled from ZCCM,. where is the money ??? nothing was done to recover it…
    – Connivance with foreign companies : windfall taxes scrapped, low mineral tax, crumbs given to zccm whereas mines owe zccm several hundred million dollars, rupiah and his govt hush transfer pricing/ Tax heaven up
    – Zambian assets sold for a song
    – Civil servants not paid
    – The justice is RB’s puppet : Mpombo, M’membe, the high Court decision rejecting the registration of the London judgment

  19. continued

    – more and more corruption and impunity for thieves : removal the abuse of office clause from the ACC Act to dilute the fight against corruption, Chiluba cleared
    – Poverty so high and the govt plays the beggar while foreign companies earn billion dollars whereas Banda and his gang mess Zambian assets
    – copper from Mopani sold under a contract with copper in one instance being sold at 25 per cent of official prices at LME. In other words, they are not paying taxes over 75% of the copper sold to Glencore.

  20. Mike Te @15 and 16 wrote “and rupiah has declined to investigate Mopani’s tax affairs despite calls from development charities !!!”

Who are fooling with a cheap lies. they were investigated and hear is a confirmation from the Chairman Emmanual Mutati

“Emmanuel Mutati, CEO of Mopani, has described the audit as “flawed and incomplete” saying it did not include a series of third-party transactions that would affect its accounts. “We have also been audited by independent auditors annually,” Mutati said. “Every year the independent auditors’ report has given Mopani a clean bill of health.”

  21. MMD IS SUFFERING FROM SELF DECEPTION. I HAVE BEEN TO ALL THE RALLIES CONDUCTED BY RB. THE ORGANISERS ARE FOOLING HIM BY TRANSPORTING PEOPLE FROM TOO FAR DISTRICTS TO ANOTHER DISTRICT JUST TO SHOW THAT THERE WAS A GOOD ATTENDANCE. PEOPLE CANT BE CHEATED THEY KNOW THE TACTICS IN MMD. WHY NOT LET PEOPLE TO COME ON THEIR OWN TO WEIGH YOUR POPULARITY LIKE SATA OR HH? IGNORANCE IS ALSO EXPENSIVE. PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN TRANSPORTED FROM FAR DISTRICTS HAVE COMPLAINED OF HUNGER AFTER BEING GIVEN K5,000 FOR THEIR LUNCH. KEKEKEKE I KNOW MMD IS PUNICKING THEY FEEL THE WINDS CHANGE BLOWING IN EVERY DIRECTION AND SOON THEY WILL BE NO MORE. BY FEAR OF HIS CORRUPTION CASES RB WONT ACCEPT DEFEAT LIKE MUGABE. MARK MY WORDS.

  22. Pf  supporters pliz spare your pres some time to rest. jst featured on radio christian voice. sounded weak, breathless and tired. do not overstretch him

  23. Mike Te, I hope you were being mischievious and that you are not ignorant.

Glemcore AG was a private equity Group until its flotation recently. The guys are schemers when it comes to tax planning (or tax avoidance schemes) and if they can run rings around the UK tax authorities just think what they can do to ZRA?

I think what we should be asking GRZ to build capacity in ZRA so that they can competently tax these mining companies. At the moment there are pervasive competency weaknesses. It may well be that ZRA still needs international expertise that is still lacking in Zambia. Do not be surprised because even the big 4 accounting firms in the UK are always looking overseas for the sharpest minds some of them Zambians.

  24. LT why are you not publishing my messages. I now know that you are selectively publishing RB messges to show that MMD is popular *****s

  25. @19 Baby strawberry – Read the story on zambianwatchdog. The dogs have twisted what kabonde was saying. We all know that the dogs are owned by Under 5 and hence thier negative reporting against the state.

  26. Only people with little levels of analysis can say MMD will lose. MMD will carry the day come 20th September, 2011. chweee

  27. we should not be fooled by finished politicians who have no principle. At a time when Zambian was being plundered to the maximum this politician was okay with all that such that he even went to the extent of pushing for a 3rd term. This simply shows us how satisfied he was with what was happening. today the same man wants to fool Zambians that he will fight against corruption. Such talk is welcome in the market were very few people think beyond what they are told regardless of them being lies. Sorry!!!

  28. The picture above is not nakonde. I was there when he was addressing children at civic centre here in Nakonde and some hired swahili co boys from neighbouring Tanzania some of whom were by mistake shouting don’t kubeba. it was very bad forcing RB to hold a rally of less than 20 minutes. His nakonde officials were quarelling among themselves for poor preperation with their chairman rumoured to be defecting to PF soon

  29. Its very difficult to me to post
    I read
“The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable.
    Please try again later.”
    dozens of times

    LT screens MMDcontradictors ???

  30. :(( Reading through the comments on this site suggests that Zambians are ignorant and Stupi.d things!!! Shame that even those that are abroad can not see what is wrong with our country.

  31. @Bakulu
    I’m sticking to my guns
    They are dragging their feet
Without NGOs pressure , rupiah and his govt would have done nothing,

  32. continued
“…Mopani Copper Mines, a Swiss-owned mining company, funded with EU development monies, is siphoning its profits out of Zambia without paying taxes. Instead, it is putting the money into a tax haven, Switzerland. Mopani Copper Mines is dodging taxes in Zambia,” the organisations stated.

  33. continued

The organizations also questioned Dr Musokotwane’s inertia to act despite being given the report last year in which auditors expressed frustrations in carrying out the exercise which was within provisions of Zambia laws….”

  34. continued
“…The findings of a draft report into internal controls at Zambia’s Mopani Copper Mines plc have been categorically rejected by its owner, Glencore, the giant fuel, metals and cereals trader based in the Swiss tax haven of Zug. The report, seen by the Observer, was carried out in 2009 by a Norwegian subsidiary of Grant Thornton, one of the world’s largest accountancy firms, at the request of the PREVIOUS Zambian government.

  35. continued
Its authors alleged the mine’s owners “resisted the pilot audit at every stage”, a claim denied by a spokesman for Glencore, which owns a 73% stake in Mopani through a company based in the British Virgin Islands, another tax heaven.
I don’t believe our watchdog zccm-ih which owns 10% and ZRA did not control Mopani after Levys govt pressure (he died in… 2008!!)
Only one reason : big shots are bought and paid for by foreign mining companies…

  36. Bakulu

What do you think about 100 million dollars swindled from ZCCM ?

Rupiah, the gvt, finance minister Musokotwane ALSO FORMER DIRECTOR OF ZCCM know that and where the money is…
if mauritian banks refuse to return money why Musokotwane does not publicly make pression on mauritians ??
    Zambian people need these $ 100 m

    Today where is the money???

    ———-
    from apanews

  37. continued

APA – Port Louis (Mauritius) Zambia and Mauritius, within the framework of the Mutual Assistance Programme are working to retrieve 100 million dollars alleged swindled from the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM), APA learnt here.
The Zambian government holds 85 percent of shares in the ZCCM.
A high level delegation of the Zambian Task Force on Corruption, Tuesday arrived in Mauritius to pursue the matter.

  38. continued

Rama Valayden, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to reporters Wednesday in the capital, Port Louis, that he will hold a working session in the evening with the Zambian delegation to discuss the follow up of the case which implicates offshore companies incorporated in Mauritius.
He said about 100 million dollars have been transferred through the Bank of Butterfield Account in London, before being invested in the banking system in Mauritius and said the suspects in the scam are known by Zambian and Mauritian authorities.

  39. continued

At the beginning of the year, at the request of the Zambian government, the Mauritius Supreme Court issued an ’Attachment and Freezing Order’ to several banks here on the accounts of the suspects, Mr Bernard Mungulude, Mr Kazhi Kateke and the Laxi diamond company.
The duty of the Zambian Task Force on Corruption now was to seek to identify the local agents and representatives of the suspects so as to be able to recover and repatriate the money.
Hence, local banks have been assigned to submit documentary evidence to expose the criminal gang, or else the banks will face dire consequences, Valayden said.

  40. continued

nothing was done since Levys death…

    WHY ???

why the govt is so lenient to recover $100 million !!!!

what does Musokotwane want to hush up??

  41. Why does Rupiah disband the task force on corruption ???

Why do those thieves remove the abuse of office clause from the ACC Act ???

Every body knows why except MMD supporters… poor guys !!

  42. Why are RB and Sata always attacking each other in public? These OLD Pipo should learn to respect each other and be the example to young pipo you are a disgrace to mother Zambia.
RB please go back to your farm and continue supporting your son‘s academy Chipalamba!

  45. #56…i see, with salula throught lumumba road, indeed zambia one of the fastest in terms of economic growth.

  46. #56 “growth” is the only direction you can move in sometimes, and “growth” is relative to original size. How do those statistics benefit the common man? Or are they meaningless to the majority of Zambians?

  47. No 59
Anything meaningful can only come from economic growth. You need to create wealth for anything to be meaningful. I hope you are not a 90 day wealth creation believer. If you are i admit this will not make sense to you

  48. @#59 Airtime Sakala
It is obvious you are one of those staunch PF die hards who lambas anything as lon as it is written down.Don’t you know that economic growth statistics precedes a better quality of life.It is like crawling (a good sign of what is to come) before one can walk.

  49. Now #60 and #62 are going to say copper deposits in Zambia’s soil, and the insane copper prices, and the sun rising, and the rain falling on the crops, were all caused by MMD. Or UNIP maybe, I keep forgetting it’s RB…

  50. @#64 Airtime Sakala
You definetely are high on what the King Cobra gave you to smoke. Can you not at least acknowledge that mother Zambia is on the right track to development.Rome was not built in a day nor the USA.If you keep expect Zed to be like the USA in 90 days then the King Cobra really gave you some hard stuff and you are pardoned for your being delusional. All great countries in history have always had a starting point like Zambia today!!!

  51. #65 of course development is good. This does not mean MMD is good or that PF is bad! Can’t your tiny brain understand that?

  52. Two recycled politicians whose supporters are fighting each other. For us its is HH, new blood, new thinking, new energy, accelerated economic development. Viva HH

One Zambia, One Nation. Zambia Forward. Vote HH and UPND for sustainable national development.

  53. Thanx my namesake Jojo for welcoming to MMD. I was lost but now I am found. I have come to learn the truth is that its only MMD, the rest ni bangwele. I was supporting a wrong party PF but after reading his rantings on ballot papers, idecided to ditch him and join the winning party MMD. Viva RB chwe, chwe, chwe, chwe, chwe.

  54. This paper is sponsored by the MMd and that’s why you are always against PF you *****s. change before we come and close your ka small temba.

  55. The only pipo who will still vote for the mmd are those who are given brown envelopes introduced by the late kafupi. Tukamimona ba mmd and you will never escape the full fletched arm of the PF law enacted by credible members of Parliament with the chief whip in the name of Winter Kabimba. Moreover we are appointing a new Speaker of the National Assembly in the name of Given Lubinda. So watch out you fools with your ka small temba ati Lusaka taimuziiiiii?

  56. Buffoon RB is not satisfied because he wants to be the richest man in Babylon…how can you support these crooks who are auctioning our grand children’s resources just for kick backs!!

  57. With PF no national growth apart from Sata’s income and that of his relatives. Zambians will regret. Sata is a bully and a ‘polywomaniser’.

  58. Times of Zambia should not cheat pipo the picture is not from yesterday’s rally as i stay in Nakonde and i was there thru out.Continue cheating RB as you did to KK.Donchi kubeba
