CONAN THE BARBARIAN

literary born on the battle field ,Conan quickly develops innate warrior skills that his father teaches him to control. When his village is attacked, an evil tyrant, Zym(Stephen Lang) claims a piece of a necrotic mask that will bring his dead sorceress wife back and enable him to rule the world. Conan’s father possessed this piece and is killed in the process. Years later Conan grows to become a fierce warrior and crosses continents to find the tyrant and avenge his fathers death, while the tyrant searches for a pure blood, the only descendant who can bring the mask to life.

PROS

• Jason Momoa did a good job portraying  the barbarian .
• The battle scenes were epic and gory , fans of action movies will love this.
• Morgan Freeman was a good choice to do the narration in the beginning of the movie.

CONS

• The plot was too predictable there were no surprises.
• The acting in this movie can be described as wooden
• some of the characters were not properly developed and seemed unnecessary, like the thief Ela-Shan (Said Taghmaoui) .

CONCLUSION

I would not go as far as to say that this movie was a disappointment , but it was quite underwhelming.  It was jam packed with fierce extravagant action sequences with heads, limbs being dismembered by swords and axes , but it lacks a good story. The best acting and character development through the movie was by Marique(Rose McGowan) .It was interesting to watch her try to please her father ,Zym(Stephen lang)  as they try to resurrect the spirit of her dead mother. Marique tells Zym that she will soon be a more powerful sorceress then her mother was. Zym dismisses her and that sub-plot ends there……. that was lazyness on the part of the writers , as that could have added a twist to the overall plot of the movie.

It is a good saturday- afternoon- movie but it will not live long in the memory.
