Zambia National Farmers Union happy with early distribution of farming inputs

Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) has commended the government for the early distribution of farming inputs to farmers in the country.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS today ZNFU Public Relations Manager, Kelvin Kayeli said the early distribution of farming inputs is a positive development to farmers and the country at large as it will help in mitigating climate change effects.

“We want to commend the government regarding the corrective measures it has taken over the early distribution of farming inputs looking at the background we are coming from where farmers were receiving inputs as late as February which defeats the purpose of the distributions,” he said.

Mr Kayeli stated that the distribution will help farmers plan in time and therefore mitigate climate change effects on the agriculture sector in the country.

“What we want to see is farmers in Chief Nabwalya’s area, farmers in Chama and all those rural areas receive their farming inputs in time. When farmers receive their farming inputs on time it is easier for them to plan and grow their crops,” he said.

He added that farmers should take advantage of the distribution by planning and working on their farms.

Mr Kayeli advised farmers not to stray away from their farming activities such as smart agriculture, agro forestry and other climate mitigative measures.

“We would like to see positive improvements amongst farmers, we want to see farmers respond positively by implementing smart agriculture in the sense of agro forestry so that we mitigate climate change,” he said.

  1. What are they talking about? I received mine in December so how early is that. Anyway people are afraid so they will praise anything good or bad.

  2. THIS IS WHEN WE ARE RECEIVING WHAT SHOULD HAVE DELIVERED LAST YEAR. IT IS NOT EARLY DISTRIBUTION.

    • I’m also surprised. I received the sorghum two weeks ago instead six months ago? Really early.

  3. The news item should just appreciate the plans that are there to start the whole process Early. We hope they will manage to distribute early. It’s too early to praise the govt for something that they haven’t achieved. This is where we get it wrong. Znfu should now be focussed on the new floor prices for the 2022/23 field crops. They should lobby from FRA for a fair increase to both the farmer and the govt.

    • Everyone is scared of losing their jobs or office so they think it’s safer to praise anyhow.

  4. When government haphazardly ditched FISP in preference for CASP, logistical challenges for farmers arose. In 2022, farmers were made to ferry inputs from DACO offices at own costs where much of it was stolen.
It is these truck loads of some stolen farm inputs seized by law enforcent agencies that may be confused by ZNFU to be new seasonal distribution of inputs.
ZNFU is so aloof that they don’t know what is obtaining on the ground. As disoriented as CASP is, ZNFU is more dazed and disorganised going by this disinformation.
How do you announce what’s not there?

  5. Some farmers who get FISP inputs resell them to get cash. There is no mechanism to check that all farmers who get FISP inputs actually use the inputs for farming. So apart from early delivery of inputs, there is need to ensure the benefiting farmers actually use these inputs to apply in their farms than reselling for quick cash.

  6. The boy doesn’t know what he is talking about. Drawing a salary for opening his mouth and saying rubbish. He should learn to call a spade a spade.
