Nakonde Constituency opposition Patriotic Front (PF) parliamentary aspiring candidate Col. John Siame is dead.
Col. Siame, who is also former Zambia Army regional commander for Northern region, died this afternoon after collapsing at his Border Lodge in Nakonde Township.
ZANIS reports both family spokesperson Yireck Munyenyembe and PF district chairman James Singoyi have confirmed the death of Col. Siame in separate interviews.
Mr. Munyenyembe said he had prayers with Col. Siame at his lodge this morning and he looked very fine adding that he left him watching Rugby on television in the lounge at his lodge where he collapsed at about 12:30 hours.
He said Col. Siame unexpectedly collapsed today and was pronounced dead on arrival at Nakonde health centre.
And PF district chairman Singoyi said the untimely death of Col. Siame as a big shock to the opposition political party. He said his party has lost a great leader.
Mr. Singoyi told ZANIS that his party was currently making arrangements to inform the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) through the District Electoral Officer (DEO) Francis Nkhoma about Col. Siame ‘s demise.
And the MMD in Nakonde has sent a message of condolences to the opposition PF on the sudden death of its candidate for Nakonde constituency parliamentary seat.
MMD Nakonde constituency campaign coordinator Chris Banda said his campaign team in the Tuesday’s September 20 tripartite elections, has received the message of the passing on of Col. Siame with deep shock and sorrow.
Mr. Banda who is also MMD Northern Province provincial treasure said the MMD in Nakonde is wishing the family of Col. Siame and the PF, Gods guidance and comfort during this trying moment.
Four candidates had successfully filed in their nominations to contest the Nakonde constituency seat and they include late Siame for PF, Geroge Sinkala on MMD, Mannix Sichone on UPND and Kennedy Simbeye under UNIP ticket.

A sad development to our country and in particular to PF over the loss of our brother, and collegue John MHSRIP. This is one of those rare times when in the midst of a planed election a candidate passes on and may be elsewhere as well. Everyone is enxious about the elections and the event of death complicates the situation at hand. We do not need to be engulfed in a web of speculation as a nation. We are aware by-elections do happen however, in this circumstance we seek quidance from ECZ to calm down everyone with a lead STATEMENT.
