Lawyers representing former PF Secretary General and MMD member Edward Mumbi have given the Zambia Daily Mail 14 days to apologize of face legal action for the stories published in the Daily mail issues of 5th January and 6th January,2012, headlined Mumbi Faces Arrest and Mumbi is Wrong-Mambo.

This emanated from a story which linked Mr Mumbi to a group of people circulating stories to the effect that President Michael Sata’s health has greatly deteriorated and that he has only about seven months to live.

In a statement of claim for damages for libel, obtained by QFM, Mr Mumbi’s lawyers George Kunda and Company says the serious allegations are completely false and malicious and that they constitute a grave libel upon their client.

The statement says the two articles published by the Daily Mail are highly defamatory and have lowered Mr Mumbi in the estimation of right thinking members of society and have exposed him to hatred, contempt and ridicule not only in Zambia but worldwide since the newspaper is also published online.

The lawyers say their client fears for his life because of the publications which impute that Mr Mumbi has criminally defamed the President and spread seditious statements against the President and the Government of the Republic of Zambia.

They are demanding that the newspaper publish in the next issue a full and complete retraction and apology in terms to be approved by them on their client’s behalf, in as prominent a position as the article complained of, that a written assurance and undertaking be made by the newspaper that they will not further publish any similar articles concerning their client.

They further demanding that the Daily Mail pays their client a proper suitable or reasonable sum as damages for the injury to his reputation and for the embarrassment and distress caused to him, and to indemnify their client in respect of the costs which he will have incurred in the matter.

  1. Surely Daily mail has evidence. Considering the way MMD cadres behaved, Mumbi would have said so. If true he is just afraid of damaged caused and should be prosecuted. MMD thought they owned Zambians.

  2. “red lipped snake” and his intimidatory tactics. he thinks he can scare away those against them now. just know that you no longer wield the instruments of power and as such, you are just a useless piece of ……….@^^**^!!

  3. COME ON EDDIE. DON’T ACCUSE OTHERS OF LOWERING YOU ‘IN THE EYES OF RIGHT THINKING MEMBERS OF THE SOCIETY’. I MEAN YOU LOWERED YOURSELF WHEN YOU CHOSE TO BECOME A CADRE. ANYWAY NJALA YAKUNYOKOLA, RIGHT? HOW IS YOUR TONGUE NOWADAYS? WELL FIND SOME RICH ARSE TO LICK MAN.

  4. This Antony mukwita concoctions which have come to daily mail, he left legal suits with the defunct Sun newspaper and the post newspaper paid huge sums of money to people defamed by mukwita, ask mmembe

  5. It would be good to see how Daily mail comes out of these legal cases. Must be squeaky bum time for the Managing Director / Editor, whatever they are called.

  6. indeed Zambia is a democracy, even *****s like mumbi can threaten to sue a government owned paper dispite all his pending issues with the state? iyo kwena atumpa

  7. Daily mail will be very busy in court and ultimately paying out.

For those of you paying any form of tax, this means government has to give daily mail more money than usual. Government money will be fighting PF battles, if only they can stop fabricating stories this rott can stop.

  8. I worry if Mr. Mumbi is just using this paper as a political mouth piece. Since his falling out with Pf and Sata. It was alleged that he made those statements. And the President threatened to sue him. Why is not defending himself in that suit to substantiate his claim. The problem is Ba Mumbi “goes with the flow”. What does he even stand for? What is his current occupation? Paid mouth piece? Sir get a job and stop using your past to justify position. If you are going to be critical about govt, be objective.

  9. This is no sense, some in government is trying to gain though the use of court. It might be a scam we need to be careful. there is no difference with selling a game by a player. How can some one even demand the terms of how he wants to forgive giving 14 days why not a day or a week talking of being paid a substantial sum of money. what will he demand when we  will not see how the case will end.Cases involving political quarrels are a drain to the national development.
