A private company collects garbage in Lusaka

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has issued another stern warning to unauthorized garbage collectors against illegal garbage collection in the city.

LCC Public Relations Officer (PRO) Henry Kapata said it was illegal for unauthorized individuals to collect garbage in residential areas before signing a memorandum of understanding with the local authority.

Mr. Kapata said this in an interview with ZANIS today.

He noted that all legal garbage collectors have since signed memoranda of understanding with the council and have since been allocated a legal dumping site in Chunga.

He said the council was incensed with illegal garbage collectors who dump the collected refuse indiscriminately.

Mr. Kapata explained that those who would not comply with the law will face the wrath of the law.

He further explained that the authorized garbage collectors were also working with the community in collecting refuse.

Mr. Kapata added that residents should also play a role by not dumping garbage in undesignated places.

    • Guys, hold your fire! These so called businessmen are collecting garbage and dumping it in non designated areas. This is a welcome business venture, but they should be responsible by dumping it ku malabo, and not in another backyard.

  1. Garbage is not our companion. If someone comes to collect it they are welcome. Where have you been all along?

  2. All bloggers posting don’t know what you are on about, a memorandum of understanding also insures that the private collectors are adhering to Health and Environmental regulations and they are not dumping the refuse illegally in a stream or your granddads farm in the outskirts of Lusaka. Look at that picture do you thing in this day and age workers should handling refuse like that..

  3. i have to agree with Jay Jay on this. in as much as they are providing a service which the Lusaka City Council has clearly failed to do, it has to be done properly through the right channels. it wouldnt hurt them to just sign the memorandum…and get proper gear for their workers

  4. Take this to a referendum of technocrats and wisdo-crats and tell them where to dump the trash. Also safety clothing for their employees.
