A LUANSHYA magistrate has jailed a house wife for six months and fined her K270,000 for two counts of contempt of court and subornation of perjury for influencing two child witnesses to give false evidence in a trial involving four Chinese nationals accused of defiling and indecently assaulting two girls.
Hellen Kalunga, 42, of Roan Township was convicted of the offences before Mr Daniel Musonda on Thursday and sentenced on Friday last week.
She was sentenced to jail for three months simple imprisonment each on the two counts of surbonation of perjury and she was expected to serve six months because the sentences would run consecutively.
Kalunga was fined K270,000 for each of the two counts of contempt of court or in default six months imprisonment.
In the two counts, she was charged with contempt of court contrary to section 116 (1) F of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Kalunga on December 19, last year in Luanshya, interfered with and influenced two child witnesses aged 14 and 12 in a judicial proceeding before they gave evidence.
In count three and four, Kalunga was charged with surbonation of perjury contrary to section 104 (7) of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Kalunga on December 19 last year did aid, abet and counseled the two child witnesses to commit perjury.
The court said the prosecution called the child witnesses who testified that Kalunga counseled them on two occasions to give false evidence in court and told them to say the Chinese nationals appearing before a Luanshya magistrate were not the ones who allegedly defiled and indecently assaulted them.
The court said even a third witness, Rosta Chibuye testified that she heard Kalunga counsel the two witnesses and decided to report the matter to the police.
The court found that the evidence of the two child witnesses called by the prosecution was reliable and that to a large measure was unchallenged.
“In my view, the account of the witness called by Kalunga did not convince me as probable nor did it raise any doubt in my mind. As a result, I find her guilty as charged,” said the court

Until we start appreciating how valuable we are, this kind of nonsense will always haunt us. How can this fo’ol decide to side with a foreigner?
Chances are she was paid. Ask how much probably K1 million.
Infact she should have been sent in for a bit longer. I pray she comes out na TB and AIDS!

Now, jail those id.iots, not deporting them. If possible inject them with STDs and Aids, ni die slow.
Chimayo ulupiyia lwakuletelela!!!!!:((
kalunga foolish and evil woman!
Good to know justice is taking its course, but what about those Chinamen who almost killed our brothers somewhere in Southern Province? I believe they were let go, but the Kalunga woman is jailed? Justice should not be one sided, bane.
Le 19:15 You shall not render an unjust judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great: with justice you shall judge your neighbor.
#5 you are right. MCS cooked for and dined with the Chinese @ state house after assuming power, contrary to the falsehood many voters were made to take, that the Chinese will be sorted out. Abandoned promises are a time bomb….
Let us respect our foreigners.
If the Chinese are found guilty they will get the sentences they deserve and hopefully deportation thereafter. Corruption is rife and no matter how wrong she was the woman who is jailed was corrupted with the promise of payment. Will those who corrupted her also be charged with doing so I wonder. Finally, while we are up in arms against foreigners defiling our children are we Zambians not also guilty of doing the same thing from one end of the country to the other ?? Shame on many of us .
ba pf na chuku chuku..
but chi mami echio tachakwata amano,,,,,,olo bukopo Bigge,,,,hw can you want to plz a ka ma china man instead of standing for just to those pepetratorz of you daughters.Sham!
Money won’t take you anywhere. But wise thinking of the future will have taken you to higher heights of your life. Are you going to be waiting in the dark like a thief to pounce on any person who will need your dubious advice. It is very shameful for that woman of Luanshya.Did you ever think of other people’s daughters at the expense of money you woman of Luanshya?
Let GOD guide you when you come out from jail and be a good citizen of protection. If you like money like that during the liberation of Zimbabwe you would have sold this country for money you like most. But people had personal interest to protect their country rights by reporting any suspicious looking characters to the authorities.
let justice prevail in this matter
Poverty is really a big curse. There are alot of untold stories about our women and girls being abused by foreigners and the police turn a blind eye. Just the other week we were reading about a white man who was forcing girls to have sex with dogs in Kalulushi. A lot of sex trade and human trafficking is place on our soil and we should all be wary of foreigners and anyone else for that matter taking advantage of our vulnerable.Ignorance by our women and ladies has also contributed to this problem. They all think that dating someone with a lighter skin is an achievement or that people with lighter skin have a lot of money to give out. In the end they just end up being abused and paid peanuts!
