UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema has said that a lot is expected from Zambia’s first woman Inspector General of Police, Stellah Libongani.

Mr. Hichilema has told ZNBC news that the country is eager to have a police service that is professional and impartial at ALL times.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Maxwell Nkole has called on police officers to support new Inspector General of Police Stellah Libongani.

Mr Nkole says Ms Libongani, whose appointment has been received wholeheartedly.

In a press release to ZNBC News today, the Permanent Secretary also paid tribute to former IG Martin Mlama.

President Sata on Tuesday appointed Ms. Libongani as Inspector General of Police, making her become the first woman in the country’s history to occupy such a position.

She was until her appointment Deputy to Dr. Malama, who was relieved of his duties as Inspector General and moves into the Foreign Service.

  1. HH, she was a Deputy to IG Malama, you think she doesn’t know what is expected of her? Just give her support and not concetrate on fault finding.

  2. There goes under 5 yarping as usual. Its time to celebrate our victories now, plz leave that lady alone and keep her out of politics

  3. It appears HH is too intelligent for people to understand his reasoning no wonder even when he is being progressive people think he is being antagonistic.I can imagine a man encouraging the woman police lady people think he is criticizing. People always want to hear the obvious that is the problem. HH for president….Now wait for the same statement HH is issued for his echoe master Chipimo to say it  ..they will be showering Chipimo with praises…..unbelievable.

  4. Bamwine you are sick!!! Very sick. These online news should not be X-rated becos of your stupidity…HAVE YOUR HEAD CHECKED AT CHAINAMA ASAP!!!

  5. its not the person appointed as IG that will make the police a professional body. its how the appointments and promotions are done. because the IG is directly appointed by the president he/she is more likely to please the appointing authority than do his job. if  in doing his job he transgresses the interest of the president then he will be take to foreign mission.
so if UPND is thinks perhaps now is the time to outline how they would run the police service so the it can represent the interest of people and not the president.
