The media has become monotonous on the appointment of cadres, even chiefs have joined-Sata

President Michael Sata

PRESIDENT Michael Sata said the media had become monotonous with people complaining about the appointment of cadres into the public service. Mr Sata was speaking in Lusaka yesterday at State House when he swore in new Broadcasting and Labour Deputy Minister Mwansa Kapeya and Cynthia Jangulo as Ambassador to Brazil.

“These newspapers, radios and televisions have become monotonous for complaining that we are appointing cadres and chiefs have joined but if you look in an English dictionary all these people are cadres but it is because many are called but few are selected,” he said.

Mr Sata challenged Mr Kapeya to ensure that he establishes television stations in all the provinces so that people in rural areas could have access to information.

The President said it was not only people in Lusaka that wanted to watch television. There is so much noise (on the) Information bill, how do you have such a Bill when some parts of the country do not know what is going on?

“So Mr Mwansa Kapeya you have come in to try and fulfil not only our promise but what our forefathers started because the Europeans built Kitwe broadcasting (ZNBC Kitwe studios) and since then there has been nothing and we would like you, we will give you the money in all the remaining provinces we need a television station,” he said.

And the president challenged newly- appointed diplomats to market Zambia and boost the country’s image abroad.

Mr Sata told the new diplomats that the country’s image was still “limping” and that they needed to boost it.

“And you the two ladies and gentleman who are going into foreign service our image is still limping. Go there and try and boost the image of Zambia.

“Two thirds of the water in Livingstone (Victoria Falls) belongs to Zambia, one third belongs to Zimbabwe but people go to Zimbabwe because they think that all the waters are in Zimbabwe. So when you go there don’t go and enjoy yourselves but go and sell Zambia,” he said.

Others sworn in were Paul Lumbi as High Commissioner to Nigeria and Grace Kabwe, who goes to Belgium.

  1. One simple question…What was the PF’s stance on the FOI bill just last year? I may be wrong but didn’t they promise to enact it? I think I’ve had just about enough of these crooked lairs making u-turns on a daily basis…donchi kubebe indeed!

    • Kapotwe, and just how have they u turned?? I have seen or read anywhere where the PF is saying they will not enact the FOI bill. Dont just read english, understand it.

    • Come on guys, lets not live in denial. The writing is on the wall, current government has no intention to enacting FOI hence the dragging of feet in the matter. I see nothing political in demanding that which was promised to us. 90 day pronouncements were made at their own accord, nobody forced them. Just accept that we’ve been short-changed.

    • @Kapotwe
You are right.  There is no single promise that PF has kept – except to employ cadres (and relatives). Now you understand what DONCHI KUBEBA really means.  You were not told the truth.  You voted based on a raft (bwato) of false promises and blatant lies.  Please continue counting.  Cadres please continue asking for more time for Sata to misrule until it is 2016.

  2. The president can go ahead appointing Cadres because educated people don’t want to stay in this little Impoverised country called Zambia.

  3. Ukwa… u r gettin da taste of wat u wer known for,”criticism”. only difference being dat u trully r messing up almost every tym. we still hv tym to make change… jst put ur head to it.

  4. Mwansa Kapeya….one has to have a correct name to be among the few selected cadres, what a govt. the issue of building stations is not in good faith we know. Sata plans to have a strong hold on the contries information by expanding govt lead radio and TV stations so he can feed lies to the rule masses. Leave the building of broadcasting houses to the private. Sata also start having cabinet meetings……this country is on autopilot.

  5. If you appoint kaponyas they will have no clue of how to market Zambia. You should learn from Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Mauritius and even Zimbabwe how to market a country. You should also learn what calibre of staff is in their ministries of tourism. You do not just appoint any riff ruff to that ministry just because he/she is a relative or tribesman.

  6. Which chiefs is he referring to? Chiefs have a right to complain if they see large majority of appointees coming from one tribe or one language group. Who says people should not complain because PF is in power? You came up with the “family tree” term under Mwanawasa now we are seeing a “family forest” or “tribal forest”. Chiefs should not be cowed by such statements. Luckily some Zambian chiefs are quite bold and cannot be intimidated easily.

  7. This is a Northern Province tree. Sata is shamelessly practicing tribalism and Zambia is destroyed for good. The next President will do exactly the same. Thank you for voting Sata into power, you i.d.i.o.t.s.

  8. He removed the cDCs saying they were MMD cadres, Now that he is in power, it is ok. Good that he is making these mistakes so that Zambians learn. Otherwise we are in for it for the next five years. Experience, experience , what a joke. 47 years experience which is actually one year of repeqated experience. KK said no, chiluba said no, mwanawasa said no, young people were taken advantage of because they do not know the history, Chanda Chimba tried, but his massage was not taken seriously. Yes he might have been wrong, but his massage was uptodate. hahahahahahahhahahhahahaaaa

  9. Embassies do not have the competency to market Zambia. Empower relevant marketing boards with finacial muscle to do that.

The President and the VP should never have publicly eclare that they are giving PF cadres jobs in the civil service. Even if they want to, their position should make sure that professionalism is key to efficient functioning of a civil service.

  10. every day we are sinking deeper and deeper into this quagmire! Let’s hope this is all to do with “teething” problems and that eventually things will level out and proper governance will prevail.  If it is not and this is the way things are generally going to be then I dread the state of our nation after even three years!!! Good luck!!

  11. Indeed Sata is a flip flop. FLIP FLOP, FLIP FLOP, FLIP FLOP, FLIP FLOP, FLIP FLOP. He is now embracing the very things he once condemned. Its true BEMBAs have no shame.

  12. Oh My God. God Bless Zambia. This is becoming embarrassing. The worst thing is that the economy is also collapsing. Every soon the Kwancha will be K9000 to a Pound. To be honest I can’t even get the sense of what the president was trying to say. Maybe fellow illiterates who voted for him can interpret for me since they understand Sata’s language better. Sata went to Botswana and clearly stated that he is NOT in favour of Dual Citizenship. But with this comical nonsense coming from him everyday, I don’t care about dual citizenship – I have British passport and will be getting a visa to go to Zambia. As long as Sata is presido I don’t want to be associated with him…Bloody rubbish, and the very poor peole who voted for him will suffer the most …many will die from poverty before 2016.

  13. No one asks me to sell Zambia but I do. Go Mick go! By the way today I am selling Lusaka. Interested bidders can find it on eBay :)

  14. whoever is waiting for this govt to sobber up and start working at some point, i must say am also waiting for you to wake up from slumber, those of us who know these crooks for who they are we are not even surprised at all this flip flop happenings and blunders around. its good that we were warned have no one but ourselves to blame for electing a comedian in such a serious office.

  15. The post newspaper advised polititians to avoid campaining on tribal lines but they never listened. Now some of them will never rule.

    • That is what MMD cadres said about Satan.  Now see who is laughing!  And guess what, see who will laugh the loudest in 2016 while you id!otic Bembas are busy strutting that you are “teka”ing.  Never is too long, iwe kaponya!

  16. Is establishing Tv stations in each provincial capital really a priority right now? When UNZA, CBU and the likes are dilapidated beyond measure! PF, no vision, no agenda, beloved country on auto pilot.

  17. MWANSA KAPEYA? WT*F? This man is a relic like Sata himself. Are there no young Zambians to fill these positions kanshi? Retirement nimu grave? For as long as we have Northern Rhodesian state of mind leading our country, we are forever buried in the “BWANA” mentallity! Can’t wait for the day Zambia, will be rule by a REAL ZAMBIAN, born and raised in ZAMBIA!!!!

  18. Sickening hard core tribalist called Ukwa. If you are bemba and excited, you are as dull as a donkey. One one tribe can win an election in zambia. It takes the support of other tribes. It will take half a century for other tribes to trust a bemba

  19. The King is naked! No the King is dressed in the most expensive regalia! Okay, those that do not see the King’s regalia are not worthy their positions. Only PF cadres are able to see where Zambia is headed to. In the meantime, the Kwacha is on a free-falling spree….. Iam scared for Zambia’s future. MMD with its corruption scandals managed to bring Zambia into a B+ positive or lower middle income country but the PF with its allergy to corruption has managed to downgrade Zambia to a B negative or poor country status. Running in circles???

  20. I don’t watch Nigerian movies but does the Ukwa character come close to this comedian and clown we have in Sata House? Can somebody recommend even a single episode that I can watch just to convince myself about the appropriateness of the Ukwa characterisation? It is not funny having a numbskull for a President.

  21. @ 24 avoid that language people are intelligent and that kind of tone can set this country on fire. we do not want zambia to be broken down as what is currently going on in baroseland. it is people like you who think you have the power to rule all the time that will make this country split. mind you language zambia belongs to all zambians for now and not an individual like sata.

  22. ‘Everyone is a cadre’…..’Many are called but only a few are chosen….’ WTF WTF WTF what on earth is this luny talking about, can someone tell me? Is he completely INSANE or does someone lace his breakfast with CRACK????? Guys we truly are in a real bind if these are the sentences constructed by a head of state to address a serious national concern. Does his mouth open before his brain engages? Its perfectly ok to stick to speaking in bemba with a translator always on hand. At this rate we are made to believe he is a mental case

  23. This issue of appointing cadres is becoming interesting. When the PF party was founded ten years ago most people did not believe it will ever rule this country. Sata did not turn to the elite and educated for support went to the grassroots. To the surprise of the middle class and elite Zambians, Sata and the so called kaponyas have defied all expectations and formed government in sep 2011. Now this revolution has taken place, what are we seeing arm chair critics insulting Sata for rewarding people who believed in him. For once let’s sober up and get involved in politics if we want to be part of the governance structure. Sata keep on rewarding your foot soldiers
