The United Party for National Development (UPND) is not in a hurry to form a political alliance with other opposition political parties ahead of the 2016 tripartite elections, party spokesperson Charles Kakoma has said.

The UPND was previously part of the United Development Alliance (UDA) together with the United National Independence Party (UNIP) and Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) which collapsed following their lose in the 2006 general elections.

The party then formed another alliance with the Patriotic Front to jointly challenge the MMD in in the 2011 election but the pact collapsed before the elections.

Commenting on veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga’s call on the opposition to form an alliance in order to challenge the ruling Patriotic Front in 2016, Mr. Kakoma has told Qfm News that his party has no intentions of going into a political pact with any party.

The UPND spokesperson who could however not rule out the possibility of a possible alliance in future said his party will instead work with other members of the opposition on issues of common interest.

Opposition political parties have in the recent weeks come out united in disagreeing with the government on various issues of national interest, raising speculation of a possible pact.

But past experiences of political alliances in Zambia have failed owing to the fact that parties involved fail to harmonize their ideologies.

  1. Please HH stand on your own.Fill in in all bye elections an UPND. stop this alliances now and stand alone.

  2. UPND is getting stronger every day! Fellow PF members lets not take this for granted the wind is changing. we need to know where we r getting it wrong!!

  3. UNDERFIVE is criticising the suspension of judges by H.E. Are you not the same person who used to complain about judicial abuse in the Rupiah Banda regime? It seems that your bitterness is causing you to criticise anyhow, even when true facts are laid bare in front of your eyes. My advise to you Hichilema is that get to start seriously reorganising your party by attracting serious membership, not jokers like Edwin Lifwekelo and William Banda, we mean serious membership. Otherwise your modus operanda right now qualifies you in the category of a nuisance noise maker. am sure a person who has seen his popularity shrink over the past three elections should seriously consider evaluating himself and his political party. First in 2006 you got 27%, 2008 you got 19% and then 2011

  4. and to add to this ba Lusaka Times, the comment you have published I also posted it pa watchdog but it was deleted because Hichilema as editor there could not allow it to pass

  5. The prostitutes are saying I am not in a hurry to be crewed by another man. May be it is because they have screwed everyone. These under 5 prostitutes cannot stand on their own

  6. If my memory serves right, UPND was in an alliance with another opposition political party immediately after the pact with PF failed. How far is that pact? The problem that I have seen with UPND is lack of consistence in decisions. The late Mazoka was a man who stood by his words, no wonder he attracted followers from all provinces of Zambia. He did not only consider fellow tribes men. My advise to you UPND is that learn to embrace people from other parts of Zambia you are among the political parties that have never tested state house, but if you keep on with your current arrangement, no matter what, you will never produce a person to be in state house.

    • Comparing Mazoka to this circus is a dis-favor to the big man (MHRIP). Mazoka had a noble vision born of infinite wisdom and mature consideration, and that is why he was consistent, and that is why despite being a Tonga man, he had support all over the country. UPND became a regional party after he passed on. For UPND to become a party of national appeal they must cease to be a party driven by hostility, and they must also give up the arrogant yet politically impotent HH. None of us who think rationally give a damn if he is replaced by another Tonga or a Tumbuka or Lala. All we care about is that it is in the hands of someone mature and focussed, who spends more time on what he will do for the country rather than just pointing out what others are doing, real or imagined.

  7. As long as HH wants to be the only leader in that coalition, the story will repeat itself. Others are also eager to be president, so think twice. On going alone, you are still a minority and you will ever be a minoriry for a long time to come. So, both ways is hard for you, don’t even cheat yourself that your party is growing stronger. Stronger in being minority, yes but not to command the majority. You have one definate option and that is to form a coalition and in that coalition let HH accept being led by another. At least agree to that in principle, be willing to be vice to someone else and then in due course you can come and be president. The way is long for you. If you did not mess your case with Sata, you would have been vice president and acting president. You greed messed it up.

  8. this party ngamwanakashi nga lanunka everyday .cause yonse ama parties yalingilamo, upnd liule ilikalambala

  9. THE PROBLEM WITH UPND IS THAT IT WANTS TO BE SENIOR IN EVERY ALLIANCE THEY ARE PART OF, BUT THE TRUTH REMAINS THAT THEY ARE ALWAYS THE MINNOR AND THEY FAIL TO ACCEPT IT.

  10. when I allowed these greed kind of people in my bed//, I ensured consistance use of a condom that is why am not infected/affected wit

  11. they’re not in a hurry !
    greed tongas.
anywhere in this country, these people are a menace.
they want to be superiors even when they fully know where they belong…tail .

  12. The Opposition political parties failed to form an alliance due to their desire for each party to field a candidate. Only UDA did that once but also Nawakwi never campaigned for HH. she went into hibernation. On the PF/UPND Pact, both Parties wanted to have their man as candidate even when it was clear PF was bigger than UPND.

  13. the wind of change is here ..watch the space..PF is sinking like the titanic..never to be heard again!!!!!!!!!

  14. The reason why pacts fail is that HH thinks he has magnificent set of Brains to be the only one to lead. He can only dominate small political parties.

  15. Mr. Kakoma, I admire your sobriety and focus in politics, you are such a down to earth man. Sometimes I wonder whether you are in control of the public relations wing of UPND or this boy Mweetwa??? By the way, have you met your new recruits William Banda and Edwin Lifwekelo??? We wish you well as a political museum!!!

  16. Uuh! What is the problem? UPND should identify the direction they want to follow otherwise it will be forgotten like UNIP. The likes of William Banda are a source of worry. Can Mr Kakoma shade light on the acceptance of William Banda, or is it the theory of embracing every one. Time is going and soon it will be too late.

  17. Sorry for you that see my birth right in every air you smell. For your own information you will never fight and win a Tonga. Keep on insulting we will keep on working and enjoying our sweat, Thats what we know better.

  18. Zonda uzalema, go go go UPND, now UKWA is in trouble with the law. The galant men of Zambia are now up in arms. I am sure that Ka judge from Malawi will now meet the real Zambian heavy weights. Only fools see good in UKWA. VIVA HH, VIVA UPND.

  19. UPND has already made an alliance with William Banda, the reject! What do you expect now from UPND with the appearance of that thug. UPND will shortly go vigilante type of handling issues that will even scare other peaceful loving cadres to join or stay in the party. It is like in the village when somebody is labelled “witch/sorcerer/wizard” it is hard for people to accept such a person in society even he/she no longer practices the art, so is William Banda.

  20. as we approach 2016 let’s be wary not to sell our country to some freemansory. we know them bad how they mnged the opposing party they are heading. God bless our country Zambia
