Government has warned of stern action against pupils and students engaging in riotous behaviours saying the consequences of rioting have far reaching implications on future learners.
The country has recorded about seven riots in the periods between March and June this year, the latest being at Samfya Secondary School in Luapula province which happened last evening.
Ministry of Education, Science, Vocation Training and Early Education Permanent Secretary Miriam Chinyama said the Ministry will not Condon the acts of lawlessness amongst pupils and warned that stern action will be meted on those that will be found guilty of the offence.
Mr. Chinyama stated that the riotous behaviours by pupils and students is clearly in breach of Section 76 of the penal code, Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia which states that any person who takes part in a riot is guilty of a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.
She reiterated that the Ministry will not deal with cases of riotous behaviour administratively as always but will from now on treat them like any other criminal offence as the repair and maintenance of school property are at great cost to government and their families who are made to pay for damages caused.
The Permanent Secretary has since implored parents and other concerned stakeholders to counsel and educate their pupils about their rights and responsibilities and directed school administrators to put in place mechanisms that will facilitate effective communication between the school administration and pupils.

Now you are working mum. Keep it up and advise the minister not to blame the hard working Headteachers. You shouild also check the children’s rights which are misunderstood. We have also received reports that children now can go to school with their Cellphones. This is disastrous please can you clarify.
All these are signs of wrong management of the country but you will hear cadres yelling.
We Shall send Lusaka Division to discipline them.

Last week the minister of education is on record condemning head teachers that they lack proper administrative skills! That was fuel to arrogant pupils and students who took it that even the minister was on their side. It was not right for him to come out like that. His statement had and is still has far reaching consequences to pupils and students! Any riot behaviour that will be exhibited like this one will be a blame on school administrators, which I feel is not right.
Thanks for your thoughts. One thing I’ve got noticed is that banks and also financial institutions really know the spending practices of consumers plus understand that the majority of people max out their cards around the vacations. They smartly take advantage of this specific fact and then start flooding your own inbox and also snail-mail box together with hundreds of Zero APR card offers shortly when the holiday season closes. Knowing that if you’re like 98% of American open public, you’ll soar at the possiblity to consolidate financial debt and move balances to 0 interest rates credit cards.
great points.Whilst I really don’t really understand. You’ll find lot of agreements.Hope your further articles
