Home Affairs Minister Kennedy Sakeni has said that the United Party for National Development (UPND) is determined to ensure that the Patriotic Front Government does not rule the country in peace.
Mr Sakeni has told QFM news that the foiled demonstration by the UPND is as a result of selfish political ambitions of the opposition political party.
Mr. Sakeni said that it was wrong for the UPND to organize youths to protest when the Police had denied them permission to go ahead with the protest.
The minister stated that Police have the mandate to maintain law and order especially when it comes to protests that have the potential to turn into riots.
Mr Sakeni has questioned the motive behind the UPND’s demonstration against Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito when the issue of the K14 billion Development bank of Zambia debt forms part of matters before the courts.
He has however regretted the beating of the protestors by the police
Meanwhile, National Revolution Party (NRP) president Cosmo Mumba has commended the Police for its action to break-up a UPND demonstration. Dr Mumba has also commended Lusaka province Police Commissioner Charity Katanga for defending the Zambian law and constitution.
Dr. Mumba said that the UPND youths were wrong to go ahead with their planned demonstration even after being warned against doing so. He noted that immediately they were stopped to go ahead with their protest, the UPND youths would have followed the rightful procedure of following the hierarchy in appealing instead of defying the order.
Dr. Mumba said that Ms. Katanga was right not to allow the UPND youths proceed with their planned demonstration because the reason for their demonstration borders on a matter still before the courts of law.
Speaking to QFM, Dr. Mumba said that it is unfortunate that the top leadership of the opposition party decided to abandon their youths despite knowing that the matter they were protesting about was contemptuous.

Mr Sakeni learn politics please, don’t you know that your statements are just helping to make an unpopular party popular. If I were those in govt I would desist from paying attention or responding to what Hichilema and the UPND do because they simply do not carry any weight as far as Zambian politics are concerned. They are simply a Bantustan regional party of southern province
Hmm….? Would like to see William Banda campaigning for peace with a placard raised in hand walking down the streets chanting I”m born again and have reformed and will not participate in any violence and am now a reformed man spreading love and peace and unity. UPND must prove this statement to be wrong. Speculation, probing and investigating can  give you wisdom and an answer!!! So UPND prove this statement to be inaccurate!!
Word!!!
The only thing I don’t understand about all this is why it should be illegal to hold a peaceful demonstration in our own country.
Remember when you were in Grade 1 and you ask the teacher: teacher please may I leave the room? When the teacher says NO you just have to hold it it or walasebanika. Same with UPND, the police said no for various reasons. Instead of respecting the police, they went ahead an protested. That made the protest however peaceful, illegal. What was the use of going to the police to ask for a permit when they were already bent on doing it with or without permission?Â
that man looks like a wizard. This Dr.Mumba is this the MMD president or some disgruntled politicial who was almost dying of hunger in UTH until Sata helped him.Is that man a DR please use these titles correctly
The aim of demonstrations is to be heard and to be peaceful about it. So the police were wrong to beat up the UPND youths. Very sad indeed. Let’s hope those beatings won’t happen again and the Gov’t should have security put in place should a riot break out as a precautionary measure. However, Â history around the world, has proved that if political leaders in power turn a deaf ear to it’s people after numerous cries of change or help the people become frustrated and angry. So Zambia needs to start improving the lives of it’s people, before frustrations and anger increase. Demonstrations should not be about personal gain for attention, but for the rights of all citizens of Zambia. Hope that answers your concerns.Â
Hon. Sakeni, if the United Party for National Development (UPND) is determined to ensure that the Patriotic Front Government does not rule the country in peace, you also be determined to ensure that they promote peace. Flex the muscle if need be. They are actually spineless as you could see what happened in the broken up demonstration. Government has the capaity to bring peace and order which we so much enjoy. Let thes guys look at what’s happening in Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Congo and what have you. Some can find Zambia a very bad place to live in, they could find themselves as refugies. But why go that route, UPND, why. Just hold your petience, 2016 is still far away. What happens in between will be a lot, too much to start thinking you will form a government . Your crop? Katwishi!
Sakeni, they don’t want you to loot in peace! God bless them!
Every right thinking Zambian, knows what is going on in the UPND. Disruption of PF rule, by hook or crook but they will never succeed. Why did they leave the alliance?
This ci agree man looks like porokonso he heart is agree as his face
As a man is in his heart so is he. His agree face just tells us his agree heart
you are a foolish man for despising what the Good Lord made.anywy be that handsome………..
HH, do you think those demos will take you to state house? Just follow the right procedure, the PF way…. wait for the right time and just start campaigning…. call a a rally, tell us what you want us to do on the allegations you have on PF and the Nchintos and MM (mumba Malila) and will listen and possibly give you a vote in 2016.
… I meant to write ….call for a rally…….
hon dont worry these stupid upnd fools we will sort them out soon
All you pf morons supporting this barbaric act have you ever thought of what may happen next time such a demo is planned for? You think those youths will allow to be brutallised again? Next time they will be prepared by arming themselves and I can gurantee you that will be the beginning of the end of your Ukwa!!! Lives will be lost not only of the demonstrators but of the police officers as well!
The pf fears William Banda mwe bantu!!
Ukwa knows will.ia.m . These are crocodiles who used to swim together in Unip waters. They were both thugs who used to enforce kaunda’s will.
But where was HH?wHY ORGANISE unemployed youths to demonstrate, where were the UPND adults?Pls do not misuse youths. Is this different from Liberia where they used boy soldiers?HH must be reported to United nations for abusing youths.Shame.
but where was HH when the youths were being beaten? he is a coward like a cow!!!! if he is a leader he was suppose to be with the youths so that he is picked by police himself and i can assure you no one was going to be beaten there but mwitwa and HH were hidding
Sakani is an ***** political prostitute no manners, no brain bull shit.
This Dr. Mumba, what qualifications does he hold? He thinks like his brains are in his ass.
This kind of politicking by UPND where a simple english term is misinterpreted to attract attention by a horde of UPND syconphants is nauseating. From elections, believe it or not most Zambians are simply not interested in politics and just want to see reforms in institutions of governance, a new constitution, job creation, job creation and job creation. When will UPND leadership and its horde of syncophants get this through their thick skulls?
UPND is now seen as a useless party…no agenda what so ever. I respected HH and UPND but now i have withrawn support. The guys are so childish …they have no strategy. Please HH be wise , you are embaracing us man.
@14 Wanzelu… The next time your UPND chaps try to disturb the peace, the will meet the FULL Force of PF cadres, and supported by their friends from Copperbelt who will arrive on Power Tools buses. remember for every 1 UPND cadre in Zambia, there are 5 PF cadres. In Lusaka and CB, there are 1000 PF cadres for every UPND cadre. You will be praying for POLICE intervention. Your foolish leader HH and his useless advisors must Know this.. Are they looking for a fight or reprisal from Pro PF groups who are silent.. Violence never wins.. violence begets violence… thats why the Police acted with force 1) to stamp their authority 2) to warn and deter any group from thinking of doing silly things in future.. Especially PF & MMD cadres who are brutal.
It is sad that people from PF side are accepting that as long as it is done by PF led govt it is okay to violate the law. We are free to demostrate, and there was no reason to exercise Mugabe approach as tort after closed do meeting. PF this country does not belong to you alone, but to all even those you do not agree with hence we have the constitution in place to protect their rights. Charity’s people were beating with no respect to life or diginity which is a violation of human right/s. Some day, only some day all these will be regrated by the same PF supporters. Mugabe started small and now he is doing all that he is doing. Yes dictatorship is the right term for the PF approach.
So all of you disgruntled UPND types.. Learn from this and ask your so called leader to GROW UP instead of behaving like a little spoilt child that breaks things and cries when they cant have something.. Zambians dont like the guy.. simple.. we just dont like him.. Grow up.. All the Zambians (Tongas, Illa’s, lenje’s, tumbukas, Bisa’s, mambwe’ , Chewa’s, lala, bemba’s , Lunda Kazembe, Lozi ) living in the densely populated regions of Lusaka and Copperbelt reject the fellow.. Tell you rHH to be a man and deal with it.. The few votes from Sp wont take him anywhere.
If all Zambians were treated equal, you were going to rule zambia very peacefully. What matters in Zambia is being a Bemba only then you can be accorded what you ask for, period.
@23 You are really behind and keep on dreaming and cheating your yourself.
Sakeni we won’t keep quiet in the face of your tribal dictatorship, wanton thieving and incompetence and economic illiteracy!
@23 Digga, Keep on dreaming ,not every one is a fool and dull like you, you are really behind like your bums.
guys dont insult but just say. UPND has no strategy coz they always think they can win an election with southern province….very dulllo thinking indeed.
@Digga, you are really deluded. Do you really think those ethnic groups can vote for your Sata with his rampant tribalism. People are not Stu.pid my dear.
Zambia will be an interesting place after dual citizenship. Tribalists mixing with xenophobes… a very potent mix it will be!!!! 21st Century lunacy at play. Don’t say you were not warned.
UPND is a party of hoologans.HH is a bitter village head man who cannot and will NEVER rule Zambia.Zambians must reject primitive politics being promoted by HH and his party. It seems UPND is composed of dull people with unprogressive ideas. You cannot demonstrate on a matter in court,it is absurd!Mutembo did not borrow money as an individual. His company borrowed and there is no need for anyone to demonstrate against him.UPND mulifipuba, your bitterness will swallow you.
@ Kawandami: making an unpopular party popular: the question is, in which part of Zambia can UPND, the unpopular party become popular? No where apart from its tribal base and fiefdom, Southern province.
Chickens, next time bus the whole choma to Lusaka if your demos are to be taken seriously.Â
hahahahahahaha! PF cadres are jus blind followers i must say come 2016 you gone cos pf has lost so many supporters its pathetic jus reading this article and the comments by pf cadres makes me sick as i dont understand how pipo can be happy that police beat up innocent pipo so sad…………………………………..then u blame HH for this? open you eyes!
