Python attacks Chirundu man

Share

A 25 year old man of Chirundu district is battling for his life in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after being attacked by a python.

The man identified as Charles Mwalima a general worker at ZAMBEEF in Chirundu said he was attacked by the reptile in Chirundu while he was resting under a tree.

Mr. Mwalima who was speaking in vernacular narrated to ZANIS at his bed in UTH yesterday that he was attacked by the snake which came from the tree where he was resting after working in the wheat fields.

He said he was injured in the fracas and was only rescued by his friends who were nearby and later rushed him to Chirundu hospital for treatment.

Mr. Mwalima who was seen bleeding from his mouth complained of chest pains and painful legs adding that he is now failing to move.

The man was seen with bruises and sores on his body which he sustained from the attack.

And UTH Assistant Public Relations Officer, Davies Chutu said Mwalima who was brought to the hospital from Chirundu on Monday sustained severe spinal injuries.

Mr. Chutu said the victim was brought in the hospital in severe condition but described his latest condition as stable.

  1. This article needed to explain that a python is not venomous and it is a constrictor. It attacks its prey by wrapping itself around the prey and squeezing life out of it. The article needed to say how he escaped, whether by himself or he got help… it needed to say whether the snake was killed or not…

  2. The title should have been “man survives python attack”.
he is a survivor, so let us give him the credit he deserves.
    get well soon.

  3. Did it constrict him? What happened to the Python thereafter? We need a descriptive Reporter, not this note-taker Reporter!

    • As you can see or read the article.. the writer was interviewing the patient at the hospital. Your question although good, could not be answered cos the one who have the answer is Mwalima’s friend who was not at the hospital during this interview.. I hope this sheeds more light on the matter at hand .. brought in Monday reported Friday .. Too long Overdue

  4. A bull attacked him over a cow. we owez tell these ZAMBEEF WOKERS NOT TO hummer cattle… a snake cant cause buruzes.

  5. What article should have included a comment from ZAWA since they are operating in Chirundu. We needed to know the circumstances in which a Python can attack humans. These note takers should improve in their reporting.

  6. Hope you get well soon bro. Although, my concern is with the use of the word “vernacular” is it really news/necessary for us to know if the man spoke in his native language or not. I do not understand the point the writer is trying to make here.

  7. Gents haven’t you learnt that LT articles nififine…. it’s ether one sided or incomplete or just biased….. but i can only imagine what the man is going through…..so where is the snake…ulile ninani

  8. WISHING THE VICTIM A SWIFT RECOVERY AND I MUST SAY THAT HE IS LUCKY TO SURVE FROM THIS CRUEL ATTACK AND IF HIS FRIENDS DID NOT TURN UP IN TIME THIS CREATURE COULD HAVE SWALLOWED UP THE VICTIM.BLOGGERS PLZ DONT PASS SILLY COMENTS ITS NO JOKE BECAUSE IT COULD EASILY NAVE BEEN YOUR OWN SELF.PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER PASS CRUEL COMMENTS OVER SOMEBODY WHO IS IN PAIN AND IS RECOVERING IN HOSPITAL FROM INJURIES BECAUSE NEXT TIME IT COULD BE ONE OF US..

    • Kachigamba, the action of the snake in this case can not be said to be cruel. It was hunting simply because, like any other creature it needs to feed. I do not feel sorry for this guy, i applaude him because he is one tough fella. I however wish him a speedy recovery.

  9. BA LT, YOUR ARTICLES LACK DEPTH. YOU START A STORY ONLY TO STARVE READERS OF IMPORTANT DETAILS. WHAT SORT OF JOURNALISM IS THIS? MOST OF STORIES ARE INCOMPLETE OR DO NOT FURNISH THE RELEVANT INFORMATION. BLOGGERS ARE LEFT THIRSTY! ELO EVEN WORSE IS THE FACT THAT THE GRAMMA AND SYNTAXES ARE DREADFUL. PUUULEEEEEEEEEEEEAASE MWE BANTU, TWAFWENI!!! NOW THERE’S SOME vernacular FOR YOU.

  10. I should be employed by LT too, ati GRAMMA instead of GRAMMAR . ALA! apologies to all i’ve assaulted with my poor english.

  11. When in the bush carry an axe or a panga. Hammer it with bravery and it will disentangle. A certain man was hit by a python at my farm and it started constricting him together with the bicycle he was riding. The brave farm boys attacked it with axes from head and tail. That is how it loosened up. The man is still alive and has since doubled his Seven Days (local brew) intake.

  12. Definitely you with God and not alone just as God was with u when the snake attacked u.

    May you recover quickly

  13. Resting (sleeping after a meal more like it) under a tree? A perfect easy pick ready-made meal for a python. Thou shall not tempt pythons like this. It’s the equivalent of being awarded a penalty kick in football. To miss this easy meal the python must have been as devastated than the English team in Euro 2012. Get well soon and I hope you live long to tell your grand children.

  14. I honestly believe so too, after finish reading I was left with many questions, this article was more of like if you want more infor, you should subscribe or log in…..poor reporting indeed.

  15. Don’t be sleeping on the job, Charles is lucky his friends where nearby and had energy to shout out if the python got good hold of him his ribs would have snapped under the pressure.
The article itself is appalling; doesn’t say nothing on the type of python, the size and length from head to tail, if the snake escaped or was killed.

  16. I miss that Indian Teacher ( Mrs. Fenn ) who taught my friends and i how to write good English composition. I will re-write this article tomorrow with a bit of imagination to answer the bloggers’ questions such as, how did the python attack the man, which part of the body did it attack, how was he rescued, what happened to the reptile thereafter. I can assure you this is a very interesting story. But was written by a very RAW journalists. That’s why our uncles always boast of their Cambridge Form 5 at St.Clements.

  17. Bloggers, do not blame Lusaka Times, this story was originated by ZANIS, LT simply did a copy and paste job.

    • Dalbit if they, Lusaka Times, are a creditworthy news disseminator they should be able to correc t it before publishing it.

  18. Get well soon mister. Now about LT; why is it that you are so adamant to change? its not about the fact you claim to inform for free that we should accept such crap from you. I am better-off without the newz than read staff that we leave me with so many queries. you need to employ qualified journalists if the public is to appreciate you. remember its not only Zambians accessing the newz but the world over. muchinjeeeeeeeeeeeee………….

  19. thats so right, these reporters write nothing they repeat the headline to finish, they make senseless reports. how did the python attack him? was he aleep? how big was it? how many people came to his rescue? what happened to the python? did it squeeze him and suffocate him? who brought him to Lusaka? we need to know.

On the other hand congratulations to the patient for surviving this horrible attack. God is great and he is the greatest protector. Praise and worship your Maker. Good life and long life to you patient.
    Lesa apale.

  20. I do believe all the ideas you have offered on your post. They’re very convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are too brief for novices. Could you please lengthen them a bit from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.

  21. I am shocked at the lack of empathy by some fellow bloggers ! Unfortunately , pythons are a fact of life in the African bush ( but NB , not only Africa ) ! Praise be to God he survived !
