MMD members and officers who allegedly misappropriated K20 billion disbursed in 2009 for improving the drainage system in Kanyama Constituency must be arrested, area MP Gerry Chanda has demanded.

Col Chanda says the funds were for working on the drainages and prepare Kanyama Township for floods save the area from the effects of the floods every rainy season.

Col Chanda has accused MMD members of serious looting and says they did not even attach any importance to the vulnerable people.

The Kanyama MP was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka.

“K20 billion was given to Kanyama Constituency in 2009 for improving the drainages in my area but the funds were misappropriated in the previous MMD government but l will follow up the matter to ensure culprits are booked,” he said.

Col Chanda, who is also Lusaka Province Minister, however, says cleaning of drainages in Lusaka is on-going.

He says the PF government wants transparency and service delivery to benefit the people.

Col Chanda says cleaning of drainages is critical because it is a capital project and cannot be executed on funds from charity.

He further discloses that government has identified some roads in Lusaka to be upgraded to bituminous standards.

Meanwhile, Col Chnada says a meeting has been set for next week to iron out land disputes between Senior Chief Shakumbila of the Sala people in Shibuyunji district and Chieftainess Nkomesha Mukamambo II of the Soli people in Chongwe district.

Col Chanda says government is concerned about the land wrangles surrounding the boundaries between the two traditional leaders.

“As government, we should be talking about taking development to Shibuyunji and Chongwe districts and not boundary conflicts that are there between our two Royal Highnesses. The good news is that a meeting has been set to iron out the matter,” the minister says.

  1. Too late the one to go would have been Rbish especially after removing that clause!!!!!! He is the biggest crook off all.

  2. Since when did drainage cleaning become a capital project? Let him ask a foundation stage accountancy student for the difference

  3. Who put this idiot to represent kanyama pipo. Where are the long standing residents of Makeni? I miss Ticklay! we can’t just pick anyone to represent us, kanyama has its own ways, throw out this criminal from our area!

  4. Ukwa was told that he should learn to consult when indulging in his petty hobby of district creation . Now pf nkomeshya is at loggerheads with shakumbila over land.

  5. This is when you have woken up? Kanyama and Lusaka has been under PF for a long tym now. Col Chanda you were part of the plunderers as MP. Now that the rain season is looming you have realised that you haven’t done anything as MP to avert the inevitable floods you have started to look for excuses in advance. The MMD is gone and you are now in charge. Don’t tell us what MMD failed to do. We know that already. Just tell us what you are doing in relation to the drainage system.
