Chitambo District Education Standards Officer (DESO), Nixon Munkwishi has disclosed that the ongoing Grade 12 examinations in the district are progressing smoothly, with no reports of examination malpractice recorded so far.
Mr Munkwishi has since advised both teachers and learners to maintain discipline and uphold the integrity of the education system throughout the examination period.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr Munkwishi urged teachers to strictly adhere to the guidelines for the administration and management of examinations in Zambia.
He further encouraged candidates to remain vigilant and committed to doing the right thing, reminding them of the anti-malpractice declaration forms that they and their parents signed prior to the examinations.
“Examination malpractice is a very serious offence for both teachers and learners. We do not want anyone to be found wanting, as the hand of the law will definitely catch up with offenders,” he said.
Mr Munkwishi described examination malpractice as a corrupt practice that undermines national development and weakens the moral fabric of society.
“Examinations are not just a test of knowledge, they are a gateway to opportunity and a benchmark for merit. When marred by malpractice, they destroy confidence and devalue education,” he added.
The DESO also expressed gratitude to the Government, through the Ministry of Education, for the financial and logistical support provided to ensure that examinations run smoothly.
“Conducting examinations is a multisectoral effort. I would like to thank the District Commissioner for the support and guidance, as well as the Council Secretary for assisting with transport during the distribution of examination materials,” he said.
A total of 486 pupils are sitting for the Grade 12 examinations across seven examination centres in the district, while 11 pupils have been recorded as absent.
