THE VERY PEOPLE YOU FOOLED WILL BE YOUR DOWNFALL
By Zephenia Phiri
What we witnessed in Kabwe is not an isolated event. It is the unmasking of a monster we, the Zambian people, helped create with our own votes, our own hope, and our own pain. Seeing Given Lubinda beaten and dragged like an animal was a visceral moment of clarity for every Zambian whose heart still bleeds for this nation. It exposed the violent, deceitful core of the UPND, a party that has forgotten the very foundation of its painful ascent to power.
Let us speak the truth that the UPND and their sycophants in the media dread. This party did not win in 2021 because they were angels; they won because they masterfully, diabolically, engineered a campaign of such twisted propaganda that they made the Patriotic Front look more advanced than the devil himself.
I am no PF apologist. The PF had its own glaring shortcomings, its own corrupt elements, and its own violent cadres whom we rightly condemned. But let us be brutally honest: the narrative that Zambia was a war zone, that gunshots were the order of the day, was a gross, calculated exaggeration sold to the masses by Hakainde Hichilema and his machinery. Zambia was not Syria. It was a peaceful nation grappling with problems, not a nation at war. The UPND, through its own provocative violence and a masterclass in manipulation, made the people believe the PF was a demonic entity.
Where are those gassing incidents today? The burning markets? The orchestrated chaos? They were all conveniently pinned on the PF to build a mountain of sympathy for the UPND. If the PF was truly that institutionally evil, why has that same brand of spectacular violence miraculously ceased now that they are out of power? The truth is as plain as day: it was a strategy. A cruel, heartless game to paint a rival as a monster to win the sympathy of the masses.
And we fell for it. We gave them our sympathy, and with it, our votes.
But here we are today. The mask has slipped. And now, you have the audacity to claim there is no opposition? How can there be, when you are holding their balls and throats in a vice grip? You have squeezed the life out of them with the very antics exhibited by the likes of Chabinga, denying them space, permits, and the very oxygen of political existence. You have given them no room to rival you, and in your delusion, you mistake this suppression for popularity.
Your perceived achievements are but a fantasy in your own minds. Your much-touted economic performance is a smokescreen. When we look past the headlines, we see a government drowning in debt, entering into tricky, opaque agreements with the mines, and surrounded by a stench of scandal waiting to erupt, like the issues around the Ndola-Lusaka Dual Carriageway. The day will come when these truths surface. Your tired, pathetic chorus of “It wasn’t me, the PF did it!” is a broken record that has lost all meaning. Tell us, what is so tangible? Where is the transformative change you promised? It is only now, with the clock ticking towards 2026, that we see pockets of promising deals a move I must admit shows some promise but the fact remains, for the masses still suffering, it is rather a bit too little, too late.
So lie to yourselves. Comfort yourselves in your State House bubble. But hear this, and hear it well from the heart of a citizen you have wronged: the day of reckoning, iliche pa corner apo, it is just around the corner.
Your real enemy is not the PF. Your real enemy is the Zambian people. The same masses you manipulated are the same ones watching you now. They see your arrogance, your violence, your failures, and your desperate attempts to silence dissent.
UPND, wake up! The boom you hear is not in the distance; it is the sound of your own house of cards beginning to tremble. The sympathy you exploited has dried up, and all that remains is the scorching heat of the people’s anger.
In fact, come 2026, if I don’t vote for someone else, I will make sure I remove my vote from amongst the 1.8 million that voted for you, kufumyapo ka vote kandi. Ala! I was excited on the Copperbelt, ndetantula ….I have woken up!, i was blind, now i see.

Spot on, I read someone stating that the man is their god, could not believe it, what way of thinking, good lord!
LT yet again you print this unsubstantiated nonsense from someone with an axe to grind.
‘What we witnessed in Kabwe’- were you there?
You watched a video and you call that witnessing?
A certain man was admitted to hospital with a very serious condition in 2016. His condition deteriorated so that by 2021, he was gasping and in Intensive Care Unit. His muscles were so weak that he was breathing by the help of the machines. He was drip fed and tubes were sticking out everywhere. Then, the family requested that new set of doctors be enagged. In August 2021, the new doctors called Intensivists came in and after labouring of 4 years, the patient made a partial recovery and was discharged to be nursed at home, though he cannot walk alone (needs Immunity Modulating Feeds) and has intermittent eye sight. Sometimes he can see the light but sometimes he goes for hours blind. Some people think that he was better off in ICU.
Sometimes we should learn to accept the reality that is shown to us than the deceit we were subjected to. When it was close to elections these would normalize but in the nutshell it was dust swept under the carpet.
The country needs to develop strategies to combat energy.i.e. petroleum and electricity and am sure that the previous govt tried and this govt is also trying to get alternatives to combat climate change. Let’s not look at the area of hatred but for the benefit of our kids in the next ten or twenty years to come.
