OPEN Society Foundation executive director Sunday Chanda says his organisation is not sponsored by the Patriotic Front (PF) as alleged by United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr Chanda said in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday that Open Society Foundation is not a PF surrogate.
“We are pro-Zambia and we support government when it does right things and we will criticise when it makes mistakes. We have criticised the PF government in the past. We have criticised the MMD and done the same with UPND,” Mr Chanda said.
Mr Chanda was reacting to Mr Hichilema’s accusation when he featured on Radio Phoenix that Open Society Foundation was a proxy of the PF.
“There is nothing about being a PF surrogate NGO or PF camouflage NGO. We remind Mr Hichilema that he ought to become constructive and put aside his bitterness and ego-centralism,” Mr Chanda said.
He said his organisation believes that the UPND is no longer as vibrant as it was under the leadership of late Anderson Mazoka.
“We are only helping HH when we remind him that UPND can never depend on Southern Province alone to win the presidency,” he said.

UPND is not in Southern Province alone, even Western & North Western. These are regions where voters are objective & don’t look at tribe alone. Western province will not have voted for your illiterate PF leaders had you not promised them BA 64 restoration. HH will not impose himself on Luapula, Northern or Muchinga, the chaps are haters, they hate anything associated with Tongas.

Sunday is a very objective and focused person who i know very well from the the early days as Scripture Union leader in Masala Sec School and he continues to excel! he left and lived in the diaspora and came back. Some of the fools posting rubbish here have left this country and suffering quitely and making rich countries richer. the real work to liberate this country is her in Zambia on the ground and not to be arm chair critic on your table. Lets workup, HH has so far lost just too many Presidential elections and i dont see him winning even after the forth Presidentail elections at the path he has chosen to run his personal to holder party. Bembas say Tongas are bitter. On the other hand Tongas say Bembas are thieves. The sad development is that Tongas will always support HH whether he right or wrong and Bembas will always support Sata, Sakeni, Mwamba or Kambwili whether they are right or wrong. The country has been polarised along ethnic lines. What a shame.
It is Ok for a Tonga to support Hakainde Hichilema when its wrong for a Bemba to support Michael Sata….I think Chanda is right when he says that Southern Province alone cannot produce a President. Northern Province alone failed to do it until Sata went national. What is wrong with admiting that UPND was better under mazoka than it is under HH?
Sunday Chanda has been an ardent critic of the PF and many Zambians love him for that. It becomes another story when he criticizes either UPND or MMD. Are Opposition parties beyond criticism? Chanda, I am with you all the way, keep hitting hard!
Chanda used to criticize Government alone but now he is helping to bring the balance. He is being useful because its not true that Government is always wrong and the Opposition always correct. Who is holding the Opposition parties accountable? I support Chanda and his advice to HH is good.
