THE Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has described the Patriotic Front (PF) performance within the 11 months it has been in office as impressive.

General secretary Roy Mwaba said the labour movement is happy that the country has continued to record steady economic growth because of the prudent economic policies being introduced and implemented by the PF Government.

Mr Mwaba said in an interview in Lusaka that the PF Government has done many things in less than a year and urged well-meaning Zambians to commend it for putting in place measures aimed at improving people’s living standards.

He said ZCTU is also happy that President Sata has demonstrated his commitment to fighting corruption to ensure that the money released for development projects are used on intended purposes.

“We are happy that President Michael Sata has demonstrated commitment to good governance and fighting corruption. His Government has already put in place measures to eliminate corruption in the country.

“We are also happy that investors in the country have started adhering to labour laws. Most workers are now being represented by unions. This is a major achievement and we are happy to see that even domestic workers are now earning something sustainable,” Mr Mwaba said.

Mr Mwaba said ZCTU is also happy that public service workers were awarded an average of 15 percent salary increment, which he is something appreciable.

He said the increment is the highest in decades and is in line with the PF’s ‘more money in the pocket’ campaign promise.

Mr Mwaba urged the PF government to continue with its good performance to address current and future challenges.

Mr Mwaba however urged the PF Government to welcome constructive criticism from the opposition.
He also urged opposition political leaders to give due praise when presented with facts on the country’s economic performance than just criticise for the sake of it.

Mr Mwaba said the labour movement is hopeful that the PF Government will fulfill its campaign promises and prove ‘arm-chair’ critics wrong.

  1. Roy is interesting he has deliberately decided to ignore the 100% salary increament for constitutional office holders and only talks of 15%. Is he trying to talk in parables or what is he trying to say.

  2. Please,Check on the national Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research,no increments have been given this year and our management is quiet about it and threatening our union.

  3. This is what you call constructive criticism, ZCTU has looked for some positive things Government has done and started commending them on that. Then he highlights areas where they can do better, like accepting criticism. Believe you me, Government is more likely to listen to him than career critics. They will realise he is being objective, we all like to be commended and it is positive feedback!!!! Please those who are career critics, learn from ZCTU, find some positive things to say about Government then advice them on areas of improvement!!!

    • constructive criticism also includes ‘conveniently forgetting’ the family forest in Govt (or sorry his name is a ‘Mwaba’), more than 100% salary increment for Sata while lowly paid workers get a paltry increment, haphazardly implemented minimum wage, compromising the judiciary with cadre appointments(DPP and Solicitor Gen, Justice minister), closing down radio stations critical of the regime, preventing peaceful demonstrations that do not support the ruling regime, etc, etc

  4. Roy Mwaba, a former classmate of fred mmembe, you are worse than the stink of a rotten donkey, your death the soonest possible will be a gain for the nation, you irritate of your rotten head, life is harder now for us civil servants than before, we have no houses, and housing is now at the rate of K600000 for us graduates and less for non graduate, where as a houses in cities of Kitwe, Ndola, Lusaka, Livingstone, Solwezi, Chipata, Kalulushi are at K1500000 and upword. Where does this idiot like Roy mwaba lives, is he seeking for an appointment with the rotten Government he is praising, which corruption has this Government fought, wait for their term to expire you see how much will be arrested, what about direct corruption of 100% increament against 15% for civil servants, he is a fool

    • Polical Philosopher, reading your post makes me worry about your competence and helps explain why parts of the civil service are unproductive. On the basis of your ability to make a reasoned argument; I would argue that a 15% pay increase for you is a waste of money. Go to night school and learn basic grammar and spelling to improve your prospects!

  5. It’s good to know there are still many decent and level ended Zambias

  6. I agree! Only HH and other selfish politicians will not admit that PF has made a good start and should be supported by all Zambians. Keep it up PF, we are solidly behind you.

  7. These are traitors in the name of union leaders. Bana ba imbwa together with Hikaumba. These are the same chaps that critisized Sata while in opposition and today its a different story.

  10. You think we do not know that traditionally trade unions are a reflection of a capitalist society who on the surface seemingly represent the working class or appear to advocate the dictatorship of proletariat (the working poor), yet on one hand they do not transcend the very system (capitalism) they openly condemn. Regardless of where a trade union is or who leads a trade union, if it is to operate successfully as an institution for bargaining structures it has to be careful not to anger its masters the capitalist employers and the state (Zambian govt.). The state is an entity of the superstructure which is answerable to its supreme masters, the capitalist employers. Before you attempt to feed us with your rhetoric from the PF regime, critically evaluate your story, think holistically,

  11. Ba Mwaba muli cipuba sana. What has PF done? PF found things in place, what can point at as PF work? Renaming airports and shifting of HQs, firing and hiring people? Is that what you are saying they have done a lot? Why are you not pointing at road constructions and hospital, schools, mining industries as PF work? they found them already here, and then they gave themselves 100% pay rise limbi naiwe bali kupako. We know ba Roy muli bami landu that is why you are praising these Poor Failures (PF).

  12. I will be content if you, Mr. Roy Mwamba could tell me that as a people driven institution, have in place a policy designed to mult-skill the youths of Zambia by empowering them through further education where a substantial number becomes qualified so that industry can absorb them be it at home ( Zambia) or abroad. We are not placing our emphasis on undergraduate qualifications but post graduate qualifications. It is a crime against humanity not to invest in quality education for the youths. We are connected instanteniously through technology therefore, the youth must specialise in different disciplines so as to prepare them for the world out there, instead of preparing biased speeches in favour of PFregime. Give credit where it is due. Viva comrade HH, long live UNPD. Education, peace,

  13. fantastic points altogether, you just won emblem new|a new} reader. What might you recommend about your submit that you simply made some days in the past? Any certain?
