Three Armed Robbers Steal K357,697 from Choma Bakery

Three unknown individuals armed with a taser gun and machetes have allegedly stolen K357,697 after reportedly attacking workers at Kings Mill Bakery in Choma’s Makalanguzu market.

According to police, the incident occurred on 11th January 2026 at approximately 23:20 hours.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police Moono Namalongo Said Choma Central Police Station received a report of aggravated robbery on January 12, 2026, at 14:20 hours by Mudassor Patel, aged 30, of Old Kabanana Area, who manages the business on behalf of the owner, Ajim Patel.

Mr Namalongo said a worker identified as Safiaj Patel was attacked and sustained a cut injury between the left thumb and forefinger, allegedly caused by a machete.

“It is understood that the manager was at home at the time and received a phone call from Safiaj Patel, who was on the night shift with other general workers,” Mr Namalongo said.

Mr Namalongo indicated that Upon arrival at the scene, the manager found the workers visibly distressed and seated inside the bakery.

He said further inspection revealed that the money kept in the drawer was missing, along with the keys to the safe box.

He stated officers found no signs of forced entry and that investigations remain ongoing.

“Police officers visited the scene of crime and established that there were no signs of forced entry. The victim stated that at the material time, they were working inside the shop and the doors were not locked when the suspects entered and attacked them,” He said

Mr Namalongo said more  arrests have been made and no property has been recovered so far
