DEFENCE Minister Geoffrey Mwamba Walking at Zambia Air Force Samora Machel Air Base in Mbala during the Pass out of over 500 Air men and women

Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba has said he is ready to step down from his Government position if running his business enterprises will have him labelled corrupt.

And Mr Mwamba has said those labelling him corrupt have started a fight for which they should brace themselves as he will not let his family nor its interests suffer.

The Kasama Central Member of Parliament who said he was ready to be investigated for graft because he was not a corrupt man was speaking in an interview after a special live broadcast on Radio Mano in kasama yesterday.

Giving his side of the story, Mr Mwamba said he was aware that cliques had been formed in Parliament and Cabinet bent on maligning and accusing him of corrupt practices.

Springing to the defence of himself and his family he said: “My wife and children are not politicians they are free to do business. They have tendered for different contracts of which they have lost some and won some. So why should a small contract of Zesco poles become an issue?

“I have been doing business through different administrations including that of late president Mwanawasa, RB (Rupiah Banda) and I have never been labelled corrupt.”

He said it was common knowledge that before him, his parents where business persons and was surprised that some members of a party that he had assisted were now calling him corrupt because of what he termed “individual personal agendas”.

He said his money was already made when he decided to join active politics and some of it was from his business interests in Kasama.

Citing the law in his defence of his involvement in business deals, he said there was no law preventing him or any of his family members from doing business in a competitive environment.

He alleged that the people fighting him and giving him malicious labels were unelected individuals who had wormed their way into Patriotic Front (PF) through the back door.

Earlier on the special radio programme, Mr Mwamba addressing his constituents warned them that the unelected individuals he had earlier made reference to and other factions had begun campaigning to take over from President Michael Sata and were the ones calling him corrupt.

He however, pledged his allegiance to Mr Sata calling himself the president’s trusted lieutenant who had unwavering support for the head of State.

“When we were campaigning who was coming with Mr Sata here (Northern Province where were they)?,” he asked in reference to the people he accused of trying to hijack the PF.

When asked if there was any truth in the rumoured silent war between him and PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba he responded that he would not talk about Mr Kabimba but was ready to answer any questions directed at him personally.

When pressed to name some of the people he was alleging to have an agenda against him Mr Mwamba told the group of reporters that a member of their profession was one of them.

Pressed to reveal the media personality’s name, the Defence minister insisted that he would name him at an appropriate time suffice to say the person was attempting to manipulate the political future of the country.

And Justice deputy minister Alfredah Kansembe who accompanied Mr Mwamba said some members of the cliques that Mr Mwamba alluded to were actually sponsoring PF party officials at provincial level to discredit him in his constituency.

“Let’s band together behind the president until he steps down. Don’t entertain people bringing divisiveness in the party,” Ms Kansembe said.

“Politics has an expiry date because it is a temporary job but business has no expiry date. People like Mwanawasa, George Kunda and BY never abandoned their businesses because of politics. Why GBM alone. I smell a rat. Such squabbles are mounting unnecessary pressure on President Sata which may force him to make a wrong decision.

“Any way, such squabbles are normal just like in families. My mentor is Mr Sata and in the event that I am no longer minister, I will always support him and I will never leave the PF to form or join another party.”

And concluding his interview in much a jovial manner than it had begun, Mr Mwamba joked that those laying ground work to succeed President Sata were doing so in vain as maybe the constitution would be amended accommodate a clause for a third term.

  1. He is corrupt, how did the daughter become a foreign service officer, what qualifications does she have or experience. Fathers influence ofcourse.  I am sure he has been supplying government with stuff using his position. You would think these guys would declare conflict of interest. Don’t they have workers that work for them in these businesses, just to avoid such allegations? Donchi kubeba

  2. Who said MMD was more corrupt than PF? Who said PF was full of very straight people??? Who is having the last laugh…it is MMD ofcourse!! PF has no chance in 2016, they know that by now. You can’t people fighting over government money and contracts only a year after getting into power. It is ridiculous. Zambia is a Christian Nation??? Oh, Please stop insulting GOD. You will all burn in hell….even Sata will be shocked and pleased to find that there are some human beings in hell who are worse than him!!!

  3. I am with GBM on this one, not just because i know him personally from the time before he joined politics. Business has always been his life and occupying a public office doesn`t change his status or mean that his businesses have to suffer. This guy has always being one of the biggest suppliers to the government. People should learn how to differentiate private business and government business. The problem with you Zambians is that you like throwing mud at each other, no wonder you spend a big chunk of your time complainin over unnecessary things instead of being productive. Smh

    • We not denying the fact that he had some money before he came to government. He may have been supplying government them but his position now has been compromised. How do you separate the two, he’s employed by government and at the same time he is doing business with the govt. you can’t sit on both sides of the aile. You have to pick one!!

  4. Bwana GBM, no one is saying you have to abandon your businesses simply because you are a govt minister, NO! The issue here is that you are personally injecting yourself into tender procedures. That’s what is wrong here. For you to personally go over and shakedown whoever is responsible for contract issuance at ZESCO is the legal definition of CORRUPTION, period! That is undue influence and it is, or at least should be, illegal!

I understand even the supply of material to the Army/ZAF is all done by you. Again, CONFLICT OF INTEREST! If their is no law against this kind of behavior, then “Chidumbo” you are in Parliament for a reason: TO LEGISLATE! So pass a bill to prevent this kind of double dealing by govt officials. With the ACC act reinstated, I doubt your claims are even true!

    • Great comment , he doesnt realise that pushing people around to get favors amounts to corruption….no one is refusing him to have business but its the manner his getting the tenders . thanks

    • Very excellent comment, Sir/Madam! This man should just resign without telling us he’s ready or whatever. It is clear he is a hurdle to national goals. He’s not even ministerial material. What a bum.

  5. Petty politicking. GBM has been a supplier to the ministry of defence and home affairs for a long time and his business is not just in Zambia but also in SA and Namibia. It has taken him years to build his empire and only for petty little fools to demonise it today. His ministerial entitlements are far below what he makes per day from his business empire. Leave the man alone.

    • Dont be so DULL. You can’t be minister and then tender to be supplier to the same ministry!!! Non sense – if he was supplier to MOD before then he should have declared interest and declined to be mnister of defence. FULL STOP!! Is he or is he not a supplier to MOD is the question

  6. Small contract indeed!? Anyway you’ve told us before that K100,000,000 is petty cash for you. Pompous lying bum.

  7. You can’t sit on both sides of the isle. He’s got both feet on both sides. I have hear he funded sata, so let’s see what sata does on this one.

  8. THIS IS GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ABOVE ARTICLE BUT THIS IS SOME OF THE GREATEST CHANGES THE GOVT IS IMPLEMENTING:

“For example, fees for national registration and passports will no longer be collected by the Passport Office but instead will be collected through commercial banks with effect from 2013,” Chikwanda said.”
THIS SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO MANY GOVT TRANSACTIONS INVOLVING MONEY.

  9. Mrs Kasembe says they should rally behind the President until he steps down,. That’s news and would it not  be great if he did?

  10. I think people living in self denial are the “stupidest” on the face of the earth. Just like Ethiopian ministers who kept on saying Meles Zenawi was alive and well while the dictator was breathing his last in Belgium. Or our own Mulongoti who claimed he had spoken to Levy the day the president died claiming he was on the mend. Now GBM wants to believe Sata has enough left on his lease of life to finish two terms and even have the constitution amended to allow him a third term. Now, Sata is already encumbered by malignant prostate cancer, at 75, two terms plus a third and he will be 90 years. I refuse to believe he will see this year to the end befire kicking the bucket. So I laugh at the likes of GBM who think he can still see through 14 years.

    • You are very evil my friend. I don’t know why people can reach to the extent of even wishing someone to die before the end of the year. Are you God to say that? Do you even have children. I don’t think you are capable of giving birth yourself. So you want Sata to die to that HH can take over again. Stup1d scavengers

  11. 14# peter. thats petty money you are talking about. we are talking eurobond. here in wrong hands hence the real battle has begun. you shall see huge capital projects with huge kickbaks to PF individuals and the party

  12. GBM,Mmembe,Nchito,Sata are all of the same feather.Wachunguzwe hawa majangili na wahuni wa PF wanaojifanya ati waliunda serikali ili kupambana na ufisadi kumbe ndio wafisadi wakubwa zaidi.

  13. DEAR HON. MWAMBA, WHEN YOU TAKE UP PUBLIC OFFICE, YOU BECOME ACCOUNTABLE TO THE PEOPLE.

I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THE NAME OF H.E. MCS, WILL NOT GO CLEAN, UNLESS AS YOU RIGHTLY MENTIONED, YOU STEP DOWN FROM GOVERNMENT, TO PAVE WAY FOR INVESTIGATIONS, AND THIS IS WHAT THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA EXPECT.

HAVING READ PAST NEWSPAPERS OVER THE LAST ONE YEAR, YOU HAVE ISSUED MANY STATEMENTS ON BEHALF OF H.E. MCS’s OFFICE, WHEN YOU ARE NOT THE SPOKESPERSON FOR PLOT 1. THESE HAVE NOT GONE VERY WELL WITH THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA.

WE LOVE OUR PRESIDENT, THAT IS WHY WE VOTED FOR HIM, AND MAY HIS NAME REMAIN CLEAN, IN JESUS’s MIGHT NAME! AMEN.

  14. Viva HH, viva UNPD. This is sounds too good to be true for a man who seems to have no conscious. Oh no, may be he forgot to take a permanent leave from his national duties he was charged to discharge to the Zambian constituencies. The earlier he packs his belongings and go on a way trip the better for the ordinary Zambians. The govt. is too small for people like him because he is ever read to stir trouble in the name of publicity. Mwamba does not fit the status of a wealthy man, he is playing a psychological game by boasting that he has enormous financial resources so as persuade people that he is not prone to corruption yet the possibility of the opposite is very strong. Infighting is goog for the proper exit of hidden facts.

    • Thank you very much for your comments and iteernst! Just got the draw and the winners Stavros, Maria and Panayiotis Zachariadou Zafeirellis, who will be notified on how they will receive their copy.

  15. Mmembe for you. some are taggled tribal and you are tagged corrupt. Just like MITT ROMNEY mentioned at last night debate A LIE WILL BE TOLD SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL SOME FO.OLISH ZAMBIANS BELIEVE IT AS TRUE. Mmembe for you! Viva sucessful businessman GBM

  16. @Lennox Luzipo#22
Sorry for including ‘is’ in the first sentence, it is not suppose to be included and shortly before ‘persuade’ I omitted ‘to’ and in the last sentence the correct spelling is ‘good’ not ‘goog’ Apologies for such minor errors, I am trying to manage and allocate my time to other pertinent issues in addition to my fatigue. Anyway Mwamba must just go whilst his people still have questionable loyalty left for him. Viva HHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  17. Barely one year into office and there is already visible in-fighting in PF Govt. No plan and not a word about job creation and national building. Nothing. Everybody is just winging it and keeping up appearances, but for how long? Clearly, its going to self-destruct ..

  18. Can this man see his below, of course a I mean the pep! Evidence has it that fat mnen have small peeps. Reason for battering wife?

  19. Heey you PF behave yourselves. Why so early start mouthing dull speeches? Be ware of the people who have crept in your loins. Be also truthful and trustful as you serve Zambians. Don’t steal like the MMD did. Of course it does not mean when one become a minister he/she must close business..no. But Mwamba you should not influence the decision to favour your business. Let your wife and children compete with others period.

  20. So sad indeed, especially that GBM is defense minister, his respect from service men has been slashed in half. Mmembe wachabe chabe mwee, he wants to shift focus from his case with Mutombelwa Nchinto.

  21. What Third term???? When you haven’t even completed your first term???? You think Sata will live that long??? IF YOU ARE A MAN WITH SOME BACKBONE TO BOAST OF, RESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Many bloggers have missed the reference to “third term”. Badyela maningi in one year that the only thought now – how can we extend this!!! Ba swine!!!

  22. GBM is in a position of power and is capable of influencing the tender awards, there is a conflict of interest here and if anything Government leaders should not be allowed to engage n business with Governemnet departments.

  23. @18 & 35, ubukala bwenu. You wont reach even 40yrs yourselves yet you demeaning someone who has reached 75yrs. For HEMCS to ve reached that figure means he is looked after his life well unlike you 2 chaps that ve been sleeping with prostitutes now and again. [-(

    • mwabepa tata bakateka is known to be a crude womaniser ask Dr Kaseba, that is the reason she circumcised him in old age.

  24. mr GBM dont listen to good for nothing people. You ve been a seasoned businessman; your money came thru hard work. You did not privatise zambian companies corruptly with FTJ to get rich. Listen to some petty bloggers who still cling to a dream that upnd ll ever form GRZ way they are blogging about your issue.
Sir you are a very successful busines man before, now and future.

  25. GBM just resign and give room to the young ones to take over the Ministry of Defence. Do the right thing and move on with life.

  26. “So why should a small contract of Zesco poles become an issue?”. This man is useless to the well being of Zambia but his business. He is a greedy and selfish person. Period!

  27. Dick chiney the former VP of USA under G.Bush was and still is a bussineman. His company harlibaton has done contracts with the USA goverment 4 quite sumtym. In the west its normal 4 a gvmnt official 2 do busines with the govmnt but here in the third world its a scandal.

    • Check your facts homey.Mr Cheney had cut all ties to Haliburton and defer his pay & stock options to a later date after he leaves office to avoid conflict of interests.

  28. The Great Buffoon Mwamba and his uncle SATAN are as corrupt as those that fall to the devils charms. Just full of Sh?t

  29. Ba gee bee emu talking too much is not good, you have money yes, that is your money with you family why should a zambian suffer just because he is poor. It is people like you who are very selfish promoting poverty in Zambia and your children only benefit from the poor tax payers money. Just resign and you will never come back. If you sponsored Satan and some of his angels so what? And if you make a lot of money than that of a minister why should you waste your time in his kingdom? STOP lying just RESIGN you Great Big Mumbwe

  30. GBM has agreed to step down and be probed. I wonder what the problem is with that. Some of you bloggers have very little to say, instead of understanding the man’s acceptance to being probed you are castigating him.

  31. I DONT THINK YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO LOSE IF YOU RESIGN. YOU HAVE BEEN A VERY SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS MAN EVEN BEFORE YOU JOINED POLITICS. THE CURRENT CROP OF THE OPPOSITION WILL JUST NMAKE YOUR NAME DIRTY. SO JUST STEP DOWN.

  32. Though I am not GBM supporter, this is a good move. The weakens of Kabimba is that he has no constitency. PF is Luapula and Northern provinces. Other provinces are shifting sands and I am not sure Kabimba has get enough support from other provinces in a general election and win with current opposition. That is why destroying current opposition is number one and infact Kabimba and post are involved in this. That is the only possible chance Kabimba has. He has no constitency. Where his Father is is UPND strong hold.

  33. Do unto others what you want them to do unto you.GBM you harrased Mbala MP and got him charged with corruption in Kasama even after being aquited by the court. You harrased HH and got him arrested for making a statement. You got Panji transfered for raisin concerns over your corruption. You got procurement officer at Min of Defence fired for refusing to give all the contracts to you and you thought people were not watching you.Mind you the Post will finish you do not forget that its employees have infiltrated state house therefore you cannot keep any secret they have data. just resign and retire from politics sorry ba mudala mwazichita

  34. #43 there laws in USA that regulate that. If you want to do business while in govt strict compliance rules and Anti Trust laws provide checks and balances. What checks do we have in Zambia? None. It is simply wako ni wako, who is the heavy weight and so on.

  35. Yess Sir its good that you want to resign because we have heard alot of corrupt things you have done even this same Recruits who are passing out today, there where roumers that you benefited alot of your relatives and family members who didnt have good results us who had exellent results were left out, aint fair just step down no one cares….

  36. I would dare GBM to resign. If he had “knockers” to do so, it would be good riddance of bad rubbish! The president committed an error of judgement in his appointment of this man in a ministerial position anyway. If the president entered into a private arrangement with him to bankroll the campaign, it was a private matter that the president should have settled with GBM than lumber the nation with a complete inept and incompetent individual whose interests are not national, but rather bent on using his position to enrich himself. How safe is national security with a man of GBM’s caliber in charge of a sensitive ministry as defense????

  37. mwebantu let GBM be allowed to tender for the ZESCO deals without all this noise. He pumped in a lot of money into the PF when they were in opposition So let him recover. Besides GBM is a  seasoned businessman so why not? The problem in Zambia we only want to see foreigners make it big and not one of our own. Those who are saying GBM is corrupt, Please tell us which court of law has ever convicted him on corruption charges.

  38. GBM you are now a govt official, stay away from business and leave it for the private sector(even if your tender is genuine) dont use both hands to feed yourself. Chimbwi afwile nta……………….one thing at a time

  39. I think someone should start bariatric surgery in zambia with immediate effect and GBM should be the first one to benefit from this service. Good advertisement fpr surgeons! Kikikiki!

  40. Mmembe the shrewd HYENA is bitter that BIG fat GBM is eating the LIONS SHARE. Mmembe gets the contract for delivering KCM Copper to Nambia while GBM gets the contract to supply Zesco with Poles. Greedy Mmembe goes to his Bedroom Newspaper and starts SINGING the OLD GOOD SONG he sung so well a few years ago of CORRUPTION but his VOICE is not as GOOD as it was then its horsy no one is paying attention. The real question is which hand is spoon feeding these Hungry for Meat Wild animals. My guess its the COBRA as he cant intervene not wanting to seem favoring any of his Thieving Children.

  41. Mwayamba ilyashi lya third term! Donchi forget Chiluba’s attempts to change the constitution to suit his ego. That is your plan ba pf; it will back fire in your faces. Just leave the constitution out of your politics.

  42. I WONDER WHY THE POLICE NOT QUESTIONING GBM & KABIMBA ON THE ALLEGED ALLERGATIONS AGAINST EACH OTHER. IF IT WAS HH OR NEVERS, YABA THE POLICE COULD HAVE ALREADY POUNCED ON ANY OF THE TWO ATI APPEAR AT WOODLANDS POLICE STATION AND TELL US WHAT U KNOW.

  43. The beginning of the end of the PF. When they start finger pointing at each other it means Mr Sata will find it rough to prevail over his cabinet. Mr Sata is to blame for all this, he has been warned about his choice and caliber of people like GBM and many others. We are watching with keen interest.

  44. If GBM is ready to resign as he wants us to believe, who is stoping him from doing so ? Let him just say ” with immediate effect, i have resigned my position as Defence Minister”, SIMPLE !!

  45. hahaha! hardly a year has gone by, in their 5-year term and already we hearing of fat brown envelopes changing hands. And we hear this from who?? The police – no, ACC – no, opposition – no lol But from their own party colleagues, the people who were present when CORRUPTLY giving each other GOVT contract, to the detriment of our poor citizens that have been denied basic services. That’s Sata and company for you :(

  46. One thing am sure of is that whether or not GBM is sacked, he will be back in government. I just feel to an extent that Sata really does not have the courage to dismiss any ministers at least without promising them greener pastures.

  47. Please do not forget to submit your statements to the future prosecutors and detectives for your defense in criminal trials. It might help you because a presiding judge in a corruption trial might rule in your favour so as avoid a trial within a trial. There is so much evidence which should be tested at a right time and right place for lengthy arguments, and brace yourself for huge loss of weight. You might find it helpful to apply for extra lessons in quality arguments and it will be an added advantage for you, Mwamba. Viva HHHHHHH

  48. Oh no, why are you planning to run away from the titanic, oops, I almost forgot that you left out important elements in your poor planning such as technical teams who carry out onboard repairs. The cargo is too heavy for the your titanic, 90% of it, is rooted property from the languishing Zambians. Your ex-passivist are questioning your greedness and like you always deal with honesty UNPD rank and file, you are alread playing a victim yet you are a vilain. This Mwamba fellow, he always brag about his half learned son and how rich he is. Your son has an honours degree nothing beyond that . You, on the other hand, you are wealth a few millions of US dollars. You call the above two archievements a dream? Be reasonable.

  49. @ Lennox Luzipo #67
The correct word in the above comment in the second last sentence is ‘worth’ not wealth.

  50. This is funny and enjoyable, really, and not long ago this Mwamba chap was seriously braging about paying a traditional story teller for soothing words for his frustrated teams of trackers and investigators. How can professional law enforcement officers integrate voodoo in their work. This is a shame on the entire nation of Zambia. Mwamba, let psychologists work hand in hand with the investigators so as to scientifically track those suspects and bring them to book not following your instincts built around your spiritual advisers. Viva HHHHHHH

  51. CNP desciple eating another CNP desciple, the trueth will always find its way to the people. Pf is the most corrupt & disorganised government over. HH will soon be vindicted & HH is the only true leader of Zambia, the true son of our Zambian soils with a pure motive to help Zambian. only time will tell. HH we love you & “Yes we will” with with HH.

  52. HH is the only leader with a sound mind that can serve the interest of the Zambian people. The man is hardworking & focused, level headed, very coporate etc Zambia surely needs HH for the better living standard of our people. Go HH go, Zambia for you & Zambia supports you.

  53. there is no major difference between Pf & MMD governments, may be the only small difference is that MMD had people who knew what they were doing than the =PF & as things stand as at now only UPND can indeed transform the face & image of Zambia. HH we will ever love you, you mean well to the people of Zambia.

  54. GBM, Fred Mmembe is not a member of the media. He is a politician like you. He has succesfully hidden in the media profession for the past 20 years like many people such as the SpecialBranch do

  55. Novices at blogging and site-building. How could i make certain nobody gains the foundation pics and words?

  56. @50 mwana mubotu, dont show us your dullness just like HH. You are telling us about the laws in the USA that regulate such conduct of government officials; can you tells us what those laws say. Dont waffle over things you dont know.[-(
