The sentencing follows his conviction last year on multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as reckless endangerment. The case stems from a 2018 incident in which a video surfaced showing Malema firing a semi-automatic rifle into the air during his party’s fifth anniversary celebrations in the Eastern Cape.
During court proceedings, Malema maintained that the firearm did not belong to him and said he had fired the shots to excite the crowd. Despite his defence, the court found him guilty on all counts.
His legal team has since indicated that they will appeal the ruling in an effort to prevent his imprisonment. The five-year sentence could also have significant political consequences, including the possibility of disqualification from serving as a Member of Parliament.
Appearing calm in court, Malema showed little visible reaction as the sentence was delivered. However, in earlier remarks to supporters, he described the prospect of imprisonment as a “badge of honour,” stating that he would not be intimidated by the outcome.

Imprison him and throw away the keys .JM thinks he’s above the law.
To the jailer man he must go and reflect on his actions he must thus be removed from civilized society and be placed among those like him
The whites doing this to our own comrade malema, are the same ones who control HH, their puppet
