The United Party for National Development has expelled 15 members allegedly involved in acts of violence at Mazabuka Civic Centre during the filing of nomination papers by former Mazabuka Member of Parliament Gary Nkombo.
The incident occurred as Nkombo filed his nomination to contest the Mazabuka Central parliamentary seat as an independent candidate ahead of the August 13 general elections.
UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda said the ruling party does not condone lawlessness, hooliganism or political violence.
Imenda stated that those responsible acted on their own and outside the principles, values and discipline of the party.
He emphasized that the UPND respects the Constitution and every citizen’s right to contest elections, adding that violence and intimidation have no place in a democratic society.
The Secretary General further called on the Zambia Police Service and other law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice, regardless of their status or political affiliation.
Imenda warned that any individuals or groups contemplating acts of violence or intimidation during the election period would not be tolerated.
He also urged party members and supporters to remain calm, disciplined and focused on issue-based campaigns as the country prepares for the August 13, 2026 General Elections.

What is the proof that they have really been prosecuted? And has the Police started the process? Are they in custody now or at Mulungushi for the nominations? Can I have their names so that I send a query to the police? Will this serious case see its day in court? Your guess is as good as mine.
If that’s true, let the police arrest them. UPND has been paying lip service & lying on issues of Cadre violence.
That lead Cadre who attacked Nkombo is a State House protocol officer..we need him in police detention & we need photos of his detention!
