Min of Sports, RTSA sign MoU

Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) aimed at expanding opportunities for young people in the transport sector, through skills development, road safety training and entrepreneurship programmes

Speaking during the signing ceremony of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe the partnership places young people at the centre of government efforts to promote employment creation and economic empowerment.

Mr Chileshe said under the partnership, the ministry will coordinate planning, training, certification and monitoring activities, while RATSA will provide technical expertise in driver training, licensing, vehicle inspection and road safety standards.

“This partnership is a practical demonstration of the government’s commitment to empowering young people with the skills, opportunities and resources they need,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary further announced that the government has concluded the management of the fuel tanker project through an oil marketing company and will officially transfer the tankers to selected youth cooperatives, to operate commercially.

Meanwhile Road Transport and Safety Agency Chief Executive Officer Amon Mweemba said the MoU will enable RTSA and the Ministry to educate young people on road safety, ensure they obtain valid rider licenses and equip them with knowledge of traffic regulations before operating motorcycles.

Mr Mweemba noted that the partnership will help curb the growing trend of unregistered motorcycles across the country while improving accountability in government youth empowerment programmes.

“By equipping young people with the necessary road safety knowledge and licensing requirements, we are building a generation of responsible road users while creating sustainable livelihoods,” Mr Mweemba said.
