As Zambia today joins the rest of the World in Commemorating the International Anti Corruption Day, the British government is disappointed with the acquittal of former Ministry of Health Human Resources Manager Henry Kapoko who was facing various counts of corruption.

British High Commissioner to Zambia James Thornton has however welcomed the move by the Anti corruption Commission to appeal the Magistrate court’s decision.

Mr. Thornton says the Anti corruption Commission is the country’s cornerstone in the fight against graft and that his government looks forward to key financial management reforms in Zambia.

He says his government will help the country in bringing to justice those found wanting of corrupt practices.

And ACC Chairperson Judge Timothy Kabalata says with the prevailing political will shown by the PF government, the corruption crusade will yield positive results.

Judge Kabalata has since urged all Zambians to take an active role in ensuring that the vice is successfully eradicated.

Meanwhile, Transparency International Zambia Chapter Vice President Kalungu Mwansa says there is need to go beyond the domestication of International conventions against corruption and fight graft head on.

Mr. Mwansa observes that the fight against by the PF has not translated into tangible results.

  1. Yes, HM Govt is very disappointed! The so-called fight on corruption is just a slogan. There is no law and order in my ex-colony. No rule of law – e.g. illegal land allocation; ministers accused of corruption still active; no illegally grabbed land has been resorted to rightful owners – some of them my subjects. Of course I am disappointed!

  2. for now there is no corruption fight in Zambia. what is there is the use of intimidation and imprisonment of the poor and the opposition. if anything the public under act is more important to the current administration than the fight against corruption.

  3. LT, please be mindful of some of your misleading headlines. I would really like to know who is incharge of editing at LT.
On the issue of ACC, well, they have a long way to go. For as long as the President has the power of appointing the ACC director general, he will always think the ACC is answerable to him before anyone else. This is a huge problem at the moment.

  4. How do you appeal a case where you have kept back the evidence? Please Mr Nchito, don’t be used by thugs man of God!

  5. I am also not happy about de megistrate’s descision . Dis is de reason y we’ve bin calling 4 total overhaul of de judiciary. 2day’s judiciary is a cult ,de masonist rather argents of hell. Fi oppo don’t even blame de govt .Dis is wat u left-Rottenes

  6. Kapoko, Dora, RB and Sons, Fat MMD thief and Nevers you know that you stole from the people of Zambia..You can hide from Nchito but how long. Where is your sense of shame? If PF is compromised, you thieves can win for a short time. God shall judge you faily. Rememeber how Chiluba ended up ” dressed and no where to go and shine”

  7. this is a big problem for the nation,mr president sort out kabimba GBM AND CASES SUCH AS Kapokos for integrity,if you like kapoko pardon him after his conviction.

  8. This case was so straight forward Mr. Kapoko was a neighbour in Chelston and we saw how he lived a lavished life style. We go to the hospital and there are no medicines then you decide to let this man go scot free…This is EVIL!

  9. All you f.o.o.l.s who are opening your mouths without reasoning should shut up. The British government , Western countries  and the U.S government are the major funding bodies for the health sector in Zambia. They have a right to know how the hard earned money they are donating is being used!!! Certainly if the funds are ending up in a few peoples pockets then the funding must be cut and more of our people will be dying from curable illnesses. So it our duty as citizens to hold the government accountable. Corruption must be rooted out!

  10. The money is stolen, if Kapoko is not the one who stole the money then, find the culprit apart from Kapoko. If the money was not stolen, then tell us where the money is. Imwe ba Pompous Fools.

  11. It is a pity that it is being made to look as if the real fight against corruption died with President Mwanawasa. Did anyone watch “Why Poverty” on BBC on Saturday between 22.10 and 23.00hrs? The programme showed how the mining companies are getting away with murder in Zambia. It also showed how Zambia is not benefiting from the huge profits made by these mining companies.

  12. ZMK4 000 000 000 = ZMW4 000 000 = GBP470,591.5557 = USD755,948.716
Combinations containing tenofovir, introduced 10 years ago, are now recommended by the World Health Organization because they have fewer side effects and the AIDS virus is less likely to develop resistance to them. The price of one such combination has dropped to $159 from $400 in three years. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/24/health/24global.html.
    $755,948.716/$250 = 3023.79 = 3024 packs of anti retro-viral drugs (ARVs). JOB DONE

  13. @ 21 and 22 Khumz,
please help. Currently one South African Rand (ZAR) fetches about K600.00. How much will it fetch after the Kwacha has been rebased?
