Kabwe Municipal council has confiscated about 69 stray goats from four compounds in Kabwe District.
Council public relations manager Anne Mumba said the council moved into action to confiscate stray animals in compounds following concerns by the public.
Ms Mumba explained that the council had gone round communities sensitizing the residents on the need to have their animals caged.
She said despite the sensitization programmes the residents had continued to let their animals stray away into the streets and destroying fields.
Ms Mumba added that the council had given the animal owners an ultimatum of that had come to an end.
She said the council was keeping the animals and had given the owners of the animals an ultimatum in which to pay K450,000 fine failure to which the animals would be auctioned.
She urged all people in the communities keeping livestock to ensure that their animals are caged to avoid been confiscated.
She added that the animals that were confiscated are goats which had become a nuisance as they were destroying people’s crops.
How can goats be stray? Obviously they belong to someone. These guys just wanted free meat for imichopo
