UPND to field candidate in the Mpongwe by election

UPND Deputy Spokesperson Cornerlius Mweetwa

United Party for National Development (UPND) Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa has told ZANIS that his party his ready to take part in the Mpongwe and local government by-elections across the country.

Mr Mweetwa said his party has since received four application letters from its members wishing to stand on the Mpongwe Parliamentary seat.

He said a team of experts has since been sent to Mpongwe to carry out an analysis before a final decision is made.

He said the UPND would want to fill in a candidate of the local people’s choice who understands the situation and problems that Mpongwe has been going through.

The UPND spokesman however stated that his party will take time to scrutinise its members wishing to contest in order to avoid members that could easily be poached.

Mr Mweetwa further told ZANIS that his party will take this opportunity to show the country that UPND is the only credible, reliable and predictable party by providing meaningful discourse on national issues.

He however stated that the party is ready to work with any other opposition parties for the purpose of giving checks and balances to the government but added that it can never work with the ruling party.

Meanwhile Alliance for Democracy and Development president Charles Milupi refused to comment on the matter when asked whether his party was taking part in the Mpongwe By- Elections.

And -Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) President Edwin Sakala says it is pointless for the opposition to filed in individual candidates in the Mpongwe Parliamentary By-Elections.

Mr Sakala told ZANIS in a telephone interview that despite his party not participating in the Mpongwe By-elections it is still discussing with other political parties on which party to support.

He said political parties should learn from the 2011 General elections where votes seemed to have been split among numerous political parties instead of putting up one strong campaign that will yield results than giving more chance for the ruling party to win without any difficulties.

Mr Sakala however hinted that his party in 2016 will be among the strongest opposition parties which will be able to challenge the current government.

  1. Go Go Go UPND we will support you. If possible try as much as possible to pick people’s choice do not impose. Our dear lady could do better since she was number two in the general elections.

    • Yes upnd should contest in Mpongwe though winning is tricky for the party but for the sake of 2016 planning.

  2. MMD let everyone down including pf in Mufumbwe. So give chance to UPND this time around.

  3. Pliz UPND must win this one. This pathetic govt is raping us. Democracy is at stake as very one is dancing to the tune of party cadres. HH go now and start campaigning for yo candidate and party. For the seek of the future of this country let’s vote for UPND.

  4. They are just traitors how many alliances are they going to be involved in. Only prostitutes behave like UPND.

  5. Let HH stand to prepare him for 2016 since h has never been in Parliament/no experience.

  6. THIS STATEMENT, “but added that it can never work with the ruling party.” IS ALREADY SELF-DECAMPAIGN. I THINK ZAMBIANS ARE NOW MORE INFORMED NOW THAN BEFORE. THEY WANT THE OPPOSITION TO WORK WITH THE RULING GOVERNMENT IN ORDER TO SPUR DEVELOPMENT IN THEIR AREAS. SO, UPND HOW DO YOU HOPE TO DEVELOP MPONGWE IF YOU CANNOT WORK WITH THE GOVERNMENT?

  7. Day dreaming at its best from UPND!!!!!! Be assured of losing if you go it alone in Mpongwe!!!!!

  8. You will cry and cry until blood stops oozing. Whether you upnd go it alone or with any small party like yours, you can never win any seat in that part of the Country, unless Southern and some part of North Western Province. So you will do well to field your under 5 president so that he can test his popularity in that part of Zambia. Its PF tiye tiye even if I live in Diaspora just like most of you upnd blind supporters just because somebody got a ka Degree and has some stolen money from the receivership he did in the Luanshya mines some time back.

  9. You will be wasting your money, Mpongwe has gone to the people (PF), so please don’t waste it. Any way your HH has a lot of money to waste, the people of Mpongwe are waiting for it,” it’s don’t kubeba”.

  10. Your HH stole money from Luanshya and I was one of those who were affected and lost a job, I will not forgive him and should I meet him face to face I will put a bullet in his chest.

  11. mulebako fair ba fikala leave hh alone. imwe ba imbwa. why do you hate hh an innocent man? bombesheni naimwe mukawine.

  12. Levies, such hatred is inhuman. You only lost a job at Luanshya mine because of luck of sound education. You were given a position of a section engineer by your fellow bemba managers when you just held a craft certificate in electrical. Your position was for degrees holders. You did not loose your job because of HH. Take him to court if he store from you. Plesae note that your position is still vacant if you now have a degree in electrial engineering. Just stay on in Bostwana and leave Zambia for those strong to withstand your PF dictatorial pressures. People in mpongwe are suffering and they need correct representation and the tribal PF.
