Two Chinese nationals were on Sunday arrested after beating up three Zambian nationals including a security guard of Mulungushi University in Kabwe.
The duo were arrested by the Zambia police around 16:00hrs on Sunday following a tip off from panorama security firm guards who caught the two culprits with the help of the victims.
Efforts to get a comment from central province police commissioner Standwel Lungu failed as he was reported to be in Lusaka attending to other official duties while Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela’s cell phone went unanswered.
A Mulungushi University security guard Henry Natamoyo confirmed the development.
Mr Natamoyo said he received a report around 15:00hrs on Sunday from the workers that the Chinese employers would leave the following day without paying the workers their wages. Because of this information, the Zambian workers decided to demand for their wages.
However, the Chinese contractors decided not to give in to the workers’ demands but opted to physically deal with the workers.
Mr. Natamoyo said when he tried to intervene in the matter he learnt that the Chinese had locked up one Zambian worker in the toilet whom they had brutally assaulted.
Mr. Natamoyo further explained that as he tried to go towards the toilet, one Chinese national blocked him from getting to the toilet in order to prevent him from seeing the assaulted worker.
“After I found the first Chinese, he told me not to proceed to the toilet but I insisted. Then I saw six Chinese nationals brutally beating a helpless Zambian national who was trying to escape from the toilet and I took a video of their brutality using my [mobile] phone.” said Mr. Matamoyo.
Mr. Natamoyo further said that one of the six [and main culprit] named Mr. Chu [commonly known as Yeye noticed his initiative of capturing the incident as evidence, and confronted him kicking him in the leg and he dropped the cell phone thereby distorting the clip.
[pullquote]“He ran after me [like u can see in the video] and kicked me in the leg then my phone fell. He picked it, grabbed my radio and continued kicking me while I was still on the ground until a group of fellow Zambian workers rescued me and helped get my phone and radio back.” explained Mr. Natamoyo.[/pullquote]
“He ran after me [like u can see in the video] and kicked me in the leg then my phone fell. He picked it, grabbed my radio and continued kicking me while I was still on the ground until a group of fellow Zambian workers rescued me and helped get my phone and radio back.” explained Mr. Natamoyo.
And a bricklayer, Samson Zulu confirmed to ZANIS that it was true that it was six Chinese nationals who beat him up.
In his explanation of the incident, Mr. Zulu said that upon hearing that their debtor and employer, Mr. Chu would be leaving [today], he together with his colleagues demanded for their wages worth millions of kwacha from their employer who declined to give it to them for over a month.
Mr. Zulu said they (Chinese) first started with hitting his colleague, Honest Mulenga with a bottle in the head and the other hit him on his hand thus causing deep injuries in the hand and a cut in the victim’s head.
“We found them drinking and chatting in readiness to leave for Lusaka and humbly asked about our money as we learnt that they were leaving [today] and they told us to see them at some other time but when we insisted, Mr. Wang called me aside.
“ Without realising it was a plan, Mr. Chu hit my shoulder from behind with a bottle and when I fell in agony the six started kicking me all over, strangled my neck and then dragged me to the toilet where they continued with their brutality.” lamented Mr. Zulu.
Mr. Zulu who showed evidence of the strangulation and bruises to ZANIS further said that he only found a chance to flee when the culprits were alarmed that Mr. Natamoyo and the other workers were heading to the toilet.
The perpetrators then later drove off but Mr. Natamoyo called the police and commanded security personnel at the gate not to allow them through thus forcing the perpetrators to abandon their vehicles at the gate and rushed to the main road to try and catch a lift to Lusaka but to no avail.
Two of the Chinese nationals were arrested around 16:00hrs, whilst three initially fled but later appeared at Central Police in Kabwe hours later, trying to bribe the police officers who arrested two.
The main culprit, Mr. Chu, is still in hiding but his whereabouts are allegedly known by the police.

Poor Zambians no respect in our own country
I don’t blame Chinese. How can workers go to demand salaries on a Sunday? Zambians, kuti waumamo mwee.
If their superiors had to “run-away” without paying them, they would have demanded money through the owners of the building- Mulungushi University.
Oh please , why can’t these Zambians also fight back and beat up these tu ma chinese. How can a china man brought up on rice beat a Zambian brought up on nshima. Come on guys just sort them out since you know they will just bribe the police and they have already bribed the government
What country allows its people to be so brutally treated by foreigners? Case after case goes unpunished and bad seeds within the investor forum continue to observe this hence loss of respect for Zambians. We are happy to take our own to court but drag our feet to show the same justice to people who in the first place shouldn’t even have been allowed to ‘invest’ in Zambia (we are capable to do some of these construction works ourselves thereby creating more meaningful employment for our people and returning money in Zambia).
PF pull your socks on this one….the people are watching in due time they will not take kindly to not being protected…mark my words.
Mr. presdent thats why you did like the chineese i Agree poor zambians should not suffer in the hands foregners look into it,
BEAT A CHINESE IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY IF YOU WANT TO BE KILLED BY THE LOCALS BEFORE POLICE COME TO RESCUE YOU. OR KOREAN ,JAPANESE ,NEPALESE JUST TO MENTION A FEW. BE UNITED ZAMBIA. WE LOOK TOO BAD LIKE THAT
Xhenophobia is what we need and not the police to protect us.
i dont understand,i advocate a tit for tart strategy. You beat up three of our own we beat up 6 chinise anywhere in zambia.
No u beat nine of them. These guyz are too many in the world
The problem is China decongests its prisons by sending them to Africa as ‘investors’,that may explain this unruly behaviour we see among chinese in Zambia, otherwise we can’t sink low and label all chinese as bad. These cases are simple and straight forward surely the police and justice system can address this before Zambians decide to take the law into their own hands.Justice will be given and if the police don’t do it people WILL be forced to
What justice are u waiting for? Can’t u read the story, they are already bribing the police. We need instant justice(mob justice if possible). These guys its high time they know that this country has laws and laws must be obeyed but the need to give respect to citizens of this country first before the can know the law better
THAT IS NOW TOO MUCH.
HOW CAN TWO CHINESE BEAT UP THE WHOLE UNIVERSITY.
LEARN FROM MAAMBA COLUM MINE.
I MEAN THE CHINESE SHOULD LEARN FROM THE MAMMBA COLUM MINE INCIDENT.
Well it seem the Chinese investors in Zambia never learn and are not willing to learn and live with the locals at peace. The behavior being exhibited by the so called Chinese investors is shocking and displeasing. They need to be reminded that they are in a foreign country where they have not the freedom as in their country. It is just to hear the same stories from time to time, surely the police are not doing enough to stop this scourge. Zambians must be protected in their own country and live in total peace. Foreigners brutally killing and injuring Zambians at will must not be accepted at all costs. Even if it is poverty this is too much, people do not need to suffer at the hands of foreigners! I do not know in which country a local would be abused by foreigners and get away with it!
i agree, how come the zambians are npot fighting back. It is called self defence please!
We shall do Instant Justice on them here in Lusaka,we shall deal with them one by one tukoswe utu. Twatumpa sana!!!
let the victims visit a kumfu master…”Teach me kumfu.”
ZAMBIANS SHOULD START TRAINING KARATE WHILST YOUNG FOR SELF DEFENCE NOT KUSENISENI MU MOBA MUZAYAMBA KUPONOKWA SO CHABE. NOW CAN CNP POLICE TAKE THOSE NCHONCHOLI TO CHIMBWAKAILA, THOUGH I HEAR MOST OF THEM ARE CONVICTS ALREADY AND WORKING IN ZAMBIA IS PART OF THERE SENTENCE.
Zambians let’s be united and fight back, selfdefence.ba zulu you should mobilsed more people to beat utu tu makaka.
It should have been the other way round.zambians beating the Chinese.this is shameful
@man eater, that’s a very good Strategy. We shall beat up 12 Chinese here in Lusaka. Do the same in your area please.
The Probl;em with Muzungu anikonde attitude…u become a slave..these tuma China monkeys are here for a gain and they will abuse these poor zambians to their best abilities….FIGHT BACK AND IF POssible, circumcize them
yes circumcize them and thorw away the wrong piece.
ITS TIME WE BEAT UP EVERY CHINAMAN THAT WE SEE IN ZAMBIA,THESE DOG EATERS WILL NEVER EVER LEARN ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS AS IT DOES NOT EXIT IN CHINA.ENOUGH IS ENOUGH NOW LET US ROUND UP EVERY CHINAMAN IN ZAMBIA AND BUNDLE THEM UP AND PUT THEM ON ETIOPEAN AIR AND FORCEFULLY SEND THEM BACK TO THEIR STINKING COUNTRY.IDIOTS.
THATS VERY SAD even just next door in botswana you cant treat a tswana like that, you can pack immediatly but Zambians are docile and need to change urgently,Govt lead the way.
Zambia has never experienced this type of lawlessness in the country as is being witnessed in PF government. Foreigners have a field day from deception by PF discrediting the past regime to gain political milage in favour of foreigners. Today Zambia is in a form of a colony to foreigners. The sheer incompetence of governance in the nation is so frightening that translates Zambia into a failed state. The absence of the president in national affairs has promoted de-facto leadership dipicted in his mouth piece Chella and Kawimba. I assert PF government exist on paper only and has further taken leave of governance.
Mbambande osanama bozaaaa!!didn’t anything like this hapen under mmd 20yr rule?
Very Rubbish rants which are so dull and hollow…shame on you…shaaaa.
in our days we grew up fightin.it was fan nowardays its called assault. nosense
Here we go again!!! What’s the govt going to do about this? NOTHING that’s what it’s like the Chinese own Zambia now.

A Zulu naimwe, sure those short people clobbering you zambians like that??? Please muletupama pamatako utu tu bantu. Why always crying like babes ..a chinese has beaten me,…no no ..teach them a lesson they will never forget coz the police can’t do anything.
Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
balimitola kwena eeeey!
LAST WEEK I BOUGHT MY FIRST PISTOL.
WATCH THIS SPACE…… ZAMBIAN HAS SHOT DEAD A DOZEN CHINESE NATIONALS.
ALL POLITICAL PRETENDERS WILL SIT UP.
The Chinese have been arrested, taken to court the same Zulu and his friends will withdraw the case claiming to be christians and that they have forgiven the perpetrators. This is after money changes hands. This has made these Chinese believe the beating of a Zambia has no consequences and can be wished away with some cash
I think everyone needs to go to maamba collium thats where will find real Zambian who are feared by these China guys. That side the have a simple policy if a china man becomes troublesome Kill one and the rest will lock themselves indoors with no say.I need also go to maamba to learn a few tactics so that they can fear.
Am sure it was movie style. Hyaaa! Gii! Amcor kamalonda ground. Ki ki ki
You owe me. Side splitting laughter now has me in pain 🙂
I stand to be corrected. It’s been a while since I worked in the Zambian construction industry. My knowledge may be outdated.
I believe we should introduce “construction lien Act” if we do not have one already to protect trades men and suppliers that are the most vulnerable. This will allow Trades men and suppliers to put a lien on the project. Construction lien Act should go further to deem the holdbacks to be trust funds. Should the owner or contractor become insolvent or otherwise unable to pay out the holdback, then the officers and directors of the companies become personal reliable for holdback.
Talking of holdback, contrary to using holdback for rectifications of defects to construction project during the warranty period, performance bonds should be used to this regard and use…
Very progressive.
Today’s Movie Review – Enter the Dragon Ilomba
Chino-Afro Martial expert Police Chief Li Zulu Wang works tirelessly to encourage the vigilantes rising all over the globe as angry bloggers take to the streets en masse to protest against the rise of a new clan of migrant warriors with dragon ilomba counterfeit jackets. Armed with keyboards and decaf coffee, the protestors use a super secret virus to infect the minds of the global leaders with a new form of conscience called WTF. Leaders are scrambling to become moral upright champions. Meantime in the real world… sigh… if only.
What a Govn’t that can’t protect it citizens. These Chinese nationals are foreigners and if they break the laws of our land deport them simple as that. These are issues that are meant to be dealt by Ministry of Home Affairs.
When we have had enough, lets team up and go get these chinese wherever and teach them a lesson.
The China man had to beat up lazy Zambians. He did very well as most Zambians want to reap where they have not sown. Most Zambians are still very lazy people.
3 Inch Color Portable Video Magnifier
Thanks for the great article..
Zambians servants are beaten by their bosses and you idiots don’t complain. Servants work horrible hours for little money and you must complain about the Chinese ata se..!
These people should leave their jobs if they are not happy working for Chinese people FULL STOP…!
Its High time we lent self reliance. we have enough land make use of it and make money. K.K use to say GO ack to the LAND.
Chinese people every where in the world are known to mistreat people. If we start allowing foreigners to abuses citizens then we might as well hand them the key to the nation. Chinese people no matter what destination they are in are supposed to respect the people of the host nation with dignity and respect by paying employees for work done and not doing anything that can harm Zambian citizens. You need to start sending a message so others from other nations can follow by expelling those involved in these beatings. These people are victims being victimized and by Zambia not doing anything is re-victimization by not doing anything or blaming people for going to get their hard earned income. Please lets not waste time and ship the Chinese where they belong. They think they can control us.
