A mortuary attendant and a nurse at Liteta hospital accused of looting from the Chibombo tragic accident involving a Zampost bus and a truck in which over 50 people died have pleaded not guilty to one count of theft and another count of failure to account for possession of property reasonably suspected to have been stolen.
Moloson Telebe, 42, and Derrick Siwakwi, 38, took plea yesterday before Principal Resident Magistrate John Mbuzi.
In the first count the two are jointly charged for theft in that on the February 7 this year, while acting together, the duo stole KR1,200 the property of Zambia Police.
In the second count on February 12, 2013 Telebe allegedly had in possession 1×2 plate cooker, one Digital Satellite Television (DSTV) decoder, one satellite dish, a DVD player, electric fan, deep freezer, one mountain bike, among others suspected to have been stolen or unlawful obtained
The court set March 22, 2013 as trial date. Recently police arrested and charged the two for allegedly looting following the Chibombo tragic accident.
That’s disgraceful jail them without even being found guilty just the seriousness of the charges is good enough for a guilty sentence.
Sad.Hope they are innocent.

This is very sad. When my wife was involved in a bus accident in June 2008 at Nyimba, the Nurse was so good she gave us back US$1,800.00 my wife had before she became unconscious.

This is a joke. The mortuary attendant and nurse were not even on the scene of the accident. The real thieves in this accident are the police themselves who were on the scene of the accident, handling the victims and their property…And if indeed the nurse and malukula stole 1,200.00 bushe the police cant see that its impossible for one to buy a mountain bike, deep freezer, DSTV decorder, stove etc from this amount of money.. This is simply another case of the police covering their own misdeeds by victimising innocent citizens

When you are found with property suspected to have been stolen, you are equally guilty. You are liable for prosecution as one who has helped or abbetted the thief.
who was at the seen of the accident first.Unlookers,police and hospital staff. be your own judge who stands favourite to loot from that accident. I doubt if health workers are juilty….
