President Michael Sata has advised Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) president James Banda to desist from deliberately misleading the country on matters of governance.
In a press statement released to the media by his Special Assistant for Press and public relations George Chellah, Mr Sata observed that there was a rising trend by Mr Banda to issue political and unwarranted statements by purposely interpreting speeches from the Executive out of context.

PRESIDENT SATA RESPONDS TO MR. JAMES BANDA
LUSAKA, Friday, March 15, 2013 – His Excellency, Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata, President of the Republic of Zambia, has advised Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) president Mr. James Banda to desist from deliberately misleading the country on matters of governance.
President Sata said there is a rising trend by Mr. Banda to issue political and unwarranted statements by purposely interpreting speeches from the Executive out of context.
“As Head of State, I am certain that I appointed a professional Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) who has been allowed to execute his tasks professionally. And we are comforted by the fact that there are some leaders within the opposition such as Mazabuka UPND Member of Parliament Hon. Garry Nkombo, who have publicly appreciated the professional manner in which this office has acted thus far,” President Sata said.
“Mr. Banda should realize that we are fully aware of our duties and limitations as prescribed by the Constitution; no wonder the DPP is able to act as professionally as we believe he is acting because we are not interfering in his job. Moreover, as the Executive we are equally entitled to complain on a matter of public interest especially when we believe there are alleged criminal activities, which we feel should be pursued; and this certainly does not amount to giving an order to the esteemed office of the DPP.”
The President advised Mr. Banda to show leadership and halt this increasing tendency of deliberate distortions because a sober and sincere analysis of important national matters is required from him as an individual and the organization he represents.
“We deserve clear and factual guidance whenever we are being criticized and not opinions based on what is in the media. This government remains open to dialogue and consultation and we urge Mr. Banda and other stakeholders to utilize these available forms of engagement,” he said.

hmmmm, guidance? didnt you read what LAZ said in their response kwena. i urge you to go back and check the articles of the constitution they quoted bwana chellah. nanga in which part of the constitution does the president have the right to tell the DPP to find ways in which they can build cases against certain members of society? this what i expected to see in your press release bwana chellah. not just talking with reasoning yamu street when there are articles of the constitution to guide us in these matters.
Very good response from Sata, just because you are head of state does not mean you are not a Zambian and cannot show your concerns. We all watch HH striding around like he owns Zambia and yet he made money of our sorrow. It is good that the man elected to represent our views took time to point that out, just because he doesn’t have jurisdiction to give a direct instruction doesn’t mean he shouldn’t speak out. In fact it carries more weight and hopefully DPP will tackle the issue professionally

Watchdog Transparency International has supported calls for lifting Banda’s immunity so he can answer the charges against him.
Late Zambian leader Fredrick Chiluba, who ruled from 1991 to 2001, had his immunity removed after his hand-picked successor Levy Mwanawasa presented parliament with numerous charges against him. – Sapa-AFP
The consoling thing is that Sata and I are not going to live forever. He will make noise and then at some point he will go. And it is not long from now. AMEN!
If I were you I would be careful about making such statements. Lucy Sichone used to claim that she would out live Remmy Mushota. But we all know that Lucy died before Mushota. Appearances can be deceiving.

But the facts are that the man is sick and inaddition to sickness he is an old man which makes him even closer to the grave than anyone younger than him. Just look closely at that image above. U ll see him look like the day the great Anderson Mazaka, MHSRIP, came out of hospital (no offence meant) and a few months later died. Compare the two pictures and u ll see how close sata is to the grave and that is so comforting to us. Mukalila bafikala and we shall celebrate.

Mr president with statement as this, there is nothing independent of the works of the DPP director because you are clearing siding with him and rebuking the LAZ president not that I think the LAZ chairperson speaks much sense anyway.
These comments are just pipe bombs meant to scare people, acting impartial. Disappointed with the president and what a waste of time reading this statement.

If one can defend the President for directing the DPP to arrest individuals then such a person in an I.d.i.o.t. as that’s what Sata did. The DPPs office is an independent entity from the executive. The issue issue LAZ put forward was about Sata asking the DPP to see whether HH could be taken to court over his wealth.Much of what Chella is talking about is just hot air “no tompwe” kind of stuff.Chella should have addressed which part of the law allows the high office in the land to ask and or order the DPP to investigate a private person.
