Kasama District Commissioner Kalanga Bwalya has pounced on officers who report late for government activities by sending them away from a meeting.
Mr. Bwalya exercised his power as the head of district government officials in Kasama during a district development coordinating committee (DDCC) meeting held at the council Chambers yesterday.
He noted that some public workers have continued the trend of reporting late for work and other important development meetings a tendency he says must come to an end.
“I am not going to compromise with civil servants who want to create their own time to do things. if it s work time , its work , if its meeting time let it be so,” stated Mr Bwalya.
The district commissioner said public servants ought to change their mindset and get to know what they are supposed to do and lead by example.
Mr Bwalya noted that it is high time civil servants worked for the money they are paid for and not do personal businesses and wait to get paid.
He lamented that he will make sure workers in his district feel his weight if they do not wake up and abide by government regulations.
Mr Bwalya urged all district heads to take the DDCC meetings seriously and not as child’s play because they are key people in developing the district.
The District Commissioner also appealed to civil servants to desist from corrupt activities but instead serve the people diligently.
He said corruption is a cancer and its time workers changed their attitudes of fattening their pockets at the expense of a rural Zambian.
The District Commissioner yesterday sent away 6 districts heads of departments who reported late for a district development coordinating committee (DDCC) meeting.
ZANIS
Wow…something positive for sure Mr Bwaya. Generally, most people do not want to work, but they want good things including watching the English premier league with a plate full of goat meat and beer! Pathetic..
For our country to develop we need to change the attitude we have towards work more especially civil servants the work culture is so poor, look at how fast Chain’s economy is growing and compare there work culture to ours there is a very big difference. everybody plays a roll to develop this country.
There must surely be punishment or sanctions of some form to make govt workers realize that they are there to diligently perform their duties. Its abnormal reporting late for work. Thats pathetic! Civil servants in Northern Province and everywhere in the country should realize that what they call development starts with each individual worker personally and then transform to national development. Reporting late is subtracting man-hours that you are paid for. Do you understand Productivity you late comers? Productivity is the mathematical ratio of outputs to inputs. If you subtract your man hours, the time that you are supposed to put in and get those needed results, you are affecting the output per each day you report late. Please be sensible enough you Kasama chaps. You can be replaced.
He did a good thing.Twaikonda.
Good move. Zambians are the worst time keepers!
Way to go ba DC, no room for LAZY PEOPLE. Well done and let this be a lesson to others and please if possible beginning charging them
GRZ workers, very lazy chaps. let me come and join you and you will see hoe efficient am.
YES, THOSE ARE LOAFERS LIKE MOST ZAMBIANS. CUT THE MANHOURS, TOO. BETTER STILL SUSPEND THEM FOR A WEEK EACH.
Introduce time card machines so that you are paid according to the no. of hours you have worked.
Most civil servants work like that.Very lazy animals who need to b fired .There are many pipo that need employment. How do we develop this way?Who is going 2 devolop this country mwebantu? It is high time they packed and go .BRAVO DC!
Reporting for work after 8 is a sin..my father always told me
Lazy bones must be sent to their villages. Its terrible to report for work late and expect a full salary. Thats stealing from the country
Some of them even when they report early, they sit and do nothing in their offices unless they are given a bribe. Very sad indeed. Hats off to the passport office, national registration and pacra. Very efficient. Immigration and customs officers report late at Kazungula border post. Very pathetic. Wise move by the DC. Wished all supervisors could emulate.
please introduce time logging. In developed countries workers are paid for the hours worked for.If you go to out of the work place on personal errands ie kumalilo,ku bank etc you will not be paid for the hours lost.Unfortunately in zed so long you reported for work and you go out to do personal business you will be paid a full shift.
Please lets change our attitudes towards work.
Mwalasa ba Bwalya! Now we are talking. Keeping time is a matter of principle. Some of those chaps the only time they were on time was the day they were born. After that, awe kwena bakutamfyafye ngefyofine….
When people voted Sata they expected this Bwalya kind of attitude towards lazy and corrupt punks in Govt. He should go further and begin flogging them naked in public, pa maliketi, to teach would be late comers a lesson. It’s because of this indifference to public duty by these stupid officials that Zambia is lagging far behind in development. Bwalya, mune, that’s way to go. You have my support.
Zambians should wake up and am supporting the DC for such actions because there is total laziness in our country. Why cant we people be like those in the mines who gets paid for what they put in and not the other way round…..this culture of va boma is bad especially nurses and teachers and even other govt depts. Its high time we changed our culture for the betterment of our country, It is our zambia so lets develop it.
Ahhh @mosquito, ninkumfwa mune. Ulelanda ilyashi ilisuma. Development has never and will never occur as a result of laziness. It results from hard work, commitment, being principled and purpose driven…
